Wow that must be some car for him to get a second one; TML did the exact same thing back in August 2020.
Good for them though, let's keep the momentum going with Punch and Altroz EV.

I suppose the next target will be crossing 50k EV sales a year in 2023.

Hi Eco_boost: How is your Nexon EV doing after this incident?

Hey!
Odo is at 2300+ in around 48 days and the car's doing very well. Getting a range of about 160 kms in peak Mumbai traffic. ( 18 kms journey takes 1.5 Hours)
On Sundays and holidays the range goes up until 220ish. My per km cost has been 1.75 Rs/km as compared to 8.5 Rs / km of my Verna Diesel (purely city use case)
Haven't used any public chargers yet. Have been discharging the battery to as low as 10% to 15% before juicing it back up to 100%.
First service is due on 18 Jan. Will be posting a detailed ownership report within a week

Btw, did you TD the Tiago Ev? Do checkout the C3 EV as well.

I cancelled the Tiago EV booking. I just posted in another thread in detail.

almost seems like a prank by someone working in the factory! It would have been awesome if it was one, actually.
But this lack of PDI and attention to detail is what makes us Indians and our car manufacturers go back years when it comes to customer satisfaction and reliability.

I understand the importance of PDI but this tag seems tucked in deep inside the bonnet and an average customer might not look that further during the PDI.

I mean PDI by the showroom, and the factory itself.
Team-BHP PDI checklist is for us. And going by the cars coming out from the Tata and Mahindra factories, most specimens would fail our Checklist these days.

Re: Review: The Tata Nexon EV

Fellow Nexon EV owners. I was talking to a neighbour and he casually asked me what the battery degradation % is after long use or after putting say 100,000 kms on the car. Does anyone have any idea? Does TML specify any max degradation percentage possible, does the warranty talk about any of this. It got me thinking yesterday if after say 3-4 years of use or maybe putting 50k kms on the car gets the battery degradation down to 80% or less of original capacity then it becomes an ownership burden. I will read up the owners manual today to check if any such numbers are quoted, but just wanted to know from the experts here.
Thanks

Hi Sakha,

The warranty is in such a way that upto 160000km or upto 8 years the battery shouldn't degrade more than 20%.

So this shows the confidence they have in the battery. If they can guarantee 80% battery life intact then just like any other warranty they will have very solid cushion of atleast 5-10% or more. So after 8 years your car should still have 85-90% of the original battery capacity.

Now, another thing is after 8 years if the battery gets more degraded then it's not like you have to fully replace it, rather just change the affected cells which costs significantly lesser than to just throw away the entire battery pack. I am hoping we will see lot more progress on this before we reach the 8 years.

Rest assured, be tension free and enjoy the Refined EV experience

You can refer to the conclusion section to understand the observations. A small section is quoted below:

Ideally, one would expect the customer service management team of the company to apologise for facing a breakdown in a brand new EV, and then getting blamed for it by the dealership. But this is TML, and they probably have different priorities. A reliable car or a satisfied customer are not on that list.
that research paper is talking about Li Ion battery with NMC chemistry, where as Nexon EV battery are LFP chemistry. Both are very different and have different characteristics, it's not good to take findings of one battery chemistry and apply it to others.
LFP battery need to be charged to 100% and that's where cell balancing happens, I do it once a month at least.

Re: Review: The Tata Nexon EV

Recently my friends Nexon EV ran into a strange problem.
We were driving to a destination ~ 200 kms away. Once the battery reached 25%, we noticed a rapid drop rate. Within couple of hundred meters, it fell to 22%.
Seeing this, we switched off the AC etc, but we could literally see the battery dropping right in front of our eyes.

Tried to do a slight detour for nearby charging station, which was another 6 kms with 18% left. Unfortunately it dropped to 6% within few distance (not sure exactly, but less than a kilometre for sure). We pulled off from the highway and the car stopped by shifting to N after reaching zero! All these happened (from 22-0) within some 5-10 mins.

With the help of friendly local folks, we were able to charge back and reach the charging station, but that was a totally unexpected experience.

Anybody experienced something like this? Any idea what could be the problem? The car is an year old.

Re: Review: The Tata Nexon EV

This happens when the battery cells aren't calibrated. Slow charge to 100% and leave it at 100% for an hour. If it continues to happen even after that talk to your SC and get the battery checked.
