Re: Tesla driver suspended for operating wiper from touchscreen

Off topic, maybe someone should sell buttons / stalks that can get in touch with the tesla computer over bluetooth / wifi / nfc / etc. and each button can be allocated a task - kind of similar to what the various Apps read data from the OBD port.

A strip of buttons or better still rollers can be put on a convenient location (dashboard, door, seat, steering) as per the driver's preference. Each button can be customizable to control a different aspect and the driver can chose which one does what. for e.g. you may be changing the music settings, aircon settings, cruise control settings, wiper settings, more often than others and can allocate the most convenient buttons accordingly.

Would be lovely to convert the Tesla steering to a F1 type steering with multiple controls on the steering itself.

Wishful thinking or doable?

Good point, not totally impossible. We do have the capability to tap into one of the hidden cables under the rear passenger AC vents to create an OBD II port (ScanMyTesla OBD adapter link), and further, there's also some people who have made pretty interesting stuff out of it, like this MoTec driver display available from Mountain Pass Performance

Although this product only reads from the Model 3 computer, I'm pretty sure someone will soon figure out how to write to it. I can imagine that it will be very securely protected by Tesla, since there is a lot of potential for harm in writing to the car, but maybe some authorized third party in conjunction with Tesla might be able to get around the security measures.
