MG to launch an EV with 500 km range in India

According to Gaurav Gupta, Chief Commercial Officer, MG Motor India, the company plans to introduce an electric vehicle with a maximum range of up to 500 km.

Gupta stated that MG is looking to source a bigger battery that would offer extended range. However, he didn't clarify whether the new battery would be offered in an existing model (ZS EV) or in a new model altogether.

At present, the ZS EV is powered by a 44.5 kWh lithium-ion battery that is said to have a maximum range of up to 419 km. It can be charged to 100% of its capacity in 6-8 hours using an AC charger and to 80% in 50 minutes using a 50 kW DC fast charger. The car has an electric motor that delivers 141 BHP and 353 Nm.

Re: MG to launch an EV with 500 km range in India

Now who in their right mind would buy an MG ZS EV? Last year they launched a 340KM version, this year they updated that to 419KM and they already declare that there will be a 500KM MG ZS EV in future. I would definitely wait for the 500KM version.

Re: MG to launch an EV with 500 km range in India

While this is great news but what I am looking forward to is a cheap EV with may be 100 kms range as my daily drive plus beater car. For the rare longer trip, I don't mind the fuel expense and take out my ICE car.

Re: MG to launch an EV with 500 km range in India

Hybrid cars should be introduced in the mass market which is not happening due to present policy regime in India.
A single car should be able to serve as beater / daily ride on electricity as well as possibility of long range occasionally, is optimally possible through Hybrid which can continue to operate in parallel with pure BeVs.
Majority of Indian cannot afford to have 2 cars at home and unless competing sustainable options are not offered, the focus will continue to be on IC engines.
