Mercedes-Benz EQG name trademarked for electric G-Class SUVs

Mercedes-Benz could soon introduce an electric version of its popular G-Class SUVs. The parent company of the brand, Daimler AG is said to have filed an application to trademark two names with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).

The two names, EQG 560 and EQG 580 have been filed for trademark by Daimler AG on the April 1, 2021. As per the application, both names have been registered under ‘Motor vehicles & parts thereof’ classification. The two names are yet to be certified, with the applications said to still be under examination.

The new Mercedes-Benz G-Class electric SUV once introduced could be part of the brand’s ‘EQ’ range. The introduction of an electric version of the G-Wagon is also in line with the brand’s own plans of electrifying its future products.

Apart from the trademark filing for the upcoming electric SUV’s name, no other details have been revealed. However, we can expect the new electric version of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class to come with a new architecture, as well as a host of other changes and updates.

And have speakers inside fake exhausts

If I am not mistaken, most guys who buy G-Wagon look for a mix of speed and an aural pleasure from those sweet exhausts on either sides.

It’s a cult vehicle and should be the last one to go Electric, if must, in my opinion.

It's a cult classic , but more of flex symbol now a days. most of the people who buy it use it as a flex symbol. An electric one would be the ultimate flex. The faster it goes electric , the better it is for the G class and Mercedes .

A sensible move by Mercedes . This would be a good boost to the image their electric car department. Because I don't think they have sold that many EQC's (Not many people care about it) . An electric G class would have the whole fan base going crazy , resulting in hype , resulting to exposure , resulting to good sales of electric Mercs .

Or they are thinking something completely different (Which is highly unlikely).

Re: Mercedes-Benz EQG name trademarked for electric G-Class SUVs

Mercedes is busy making a EQ version of everything in their portfolio. The other day I was researching about a V Series to potentially replace my Kia Sorento and I bumped into the EQV - a fully electric MPV.

Seems interesting but then, I have quickly dropped the idea due to skepticism about Electric long distance cruising owing to the current state of technology and infrastructure. A BEV touring vehicle doesn't make sense just yet. If I choose to have a 1 car garage like now, I'd rather choose a PHEV like Volvo XC90 recharge where I get enough range (about 50kms) for short distance city driving and a IC engine for long distance driving. both are priced around 90k EUR.

EQG trademark filing very likely means that Mercedes plans to electrify its G-Class SUVs, An artist imagined what an all electric G-Wagen would look like

Mercedes-Benz Concept EQG to become electric G-Class by 2025.

It has been previewed at Munich in the form of the Concept EQG, which is described as a near-production study.

Underpinned by the same ladder-style chassis as the G-Class with independent suspension at the front and a rigid rear axle, the EQG is “an uncompromising off-roader”.

In fact, says Mercedes, a battery-electric powertrain will enhance the G-Class’s trademark off-road ability. Power is supplied by four individually controllable wheel-mounted motors, while a two-speed gearbox effectively offers low-range and high-range gearing.

At this concept stage, Mercedes hasn’t revealed the EQG’s battery capacity, range or performance data.

Mercedes will make both the most and least aerodynamic EVs.

Re: Mercedes-Benz EQG name trademarked for electric G-Class SUVs

Why do have EVs have to look so futuristic & gadgety? Why can’t OEMs retain the original look & put electric components inside.

I just don’t like the amount of lights & elements put to differentiate EVs
