Audi has announced that its latest pure-electric offerings, the Q4 e-tron and Q4 e-tron Sportback will be globally unveiled on April 14, 2021.



Production of the two electric SUVs has begun and their European launch is expected to happen in the coming months. The Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 e-tron Sportback SUVs are said to be based on Volkswagen's modular electric drive (MEB) platform.



While the exterior design of the final production-spec SUV is yet to be revealed, Audi unveiled the interiors of the Q4 e-tron SUV last month.



The electric SUV is expected to come with a host of features including Audi’s 10.25-inch virtual cockpit, 11.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system with voice control, heads-up display and rear seats that are positioned 70mm higher than the front ones.



Audi is yet to reveal the powertrain options and technical details of the production-spec Q4 e-tron SUV.

Audi Q4 E-Tron And Q4 Sportback E-Tron Revealed

The Q4 E-Tron will come in three different trims and offer two battery options, and feature two motor layouts.

The base Q4 35 model is powered by a 52-kilowatt-hour battery pack and a single electric motor at the rear, producing 168 hp and 310 NM, the base Q4 is rear-wheel drive only with an estimated range of 212 Miles. The 0-60mph comes under 9 seconds



The mid-range Q4 40 E-Tron gets a larger 77.0-kWh battery pack and a single electric motor on the rear axle which produces 201 hp and 310 NM, power sent exclusively to the rear wheels and estimated range of 323 miles (520 km) on the WLTP cycle. The 0-60mph comes under 8.5 seconds.



Top of the range is the Q4 50 E-Tron, which has the larger 77.0-kWh battery pack and two electric motors – one on the front axle and another on the rear. This is the only way you can get a Sportback model in the US. It produces 295 hp and 460 NM, with the ability to hit 0 to 60mph in 6.2 seconds. The Q4 50 E-Tron also achieves 303 miles (488 km) on the WLTP cycle



The Q4 E-Tron and Q4 Sportback E-Tron come standard with a 10.1-inch MMI touchscreen with a digital instrument cluster. Optional is a larger 11.6-inch touchscreen with the more advanced MMI Plus setup with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.





In terms of materials, Audi will offer buyers the choice of either artificial or Nappa leather



The Q4 E-tron features a "Hey, Audi" voice assistant and an optional augmented reality head-up display.



The Audi Q4 E-Tron measures 4590mm long, 1865mm wide and 1613mm tall with a wheelbase of 2760mm.



The Q4 E-Tron and Q4 Sportback E-Tron will go on sale in Germany beginning in June, with a starting price of €41,900. The US should see both models arrive closer to the end of the year, with a starting price of under $45,000.

The passenger compartment of the Q4 e-tron remained stable in the frontal offset test. Dummy numbers showed good protection of the knees and femurs of both the driver and passenger. Audi showed that a similar level of protection would be provided to occupants of different sizes and to those sitting in different positions. Analysis of the deceleration of the impact trolley during the test, and of the deformable barrier after the test, revealed that the Q4 e-tron would be a benign impact partner in a frontal collision. In the full-width rigid barrier test, good or adequate protection was provided to all critical body areas, for both the driver and rear passenger. In the side barrier test, protection of all critical body areas was good and the car scored maximum points in this part of the assessment. In the more severe side pole impact, protection of all critical body areas was good or adequate. Control of excursion (the extent to which a body is thrown to the other side of the vehicle which has been struck on the far side) was rated as marginal. The Q4 e-tron is equipped with a centre airbag to mitigate injuries between occupants in such far-side impacts. The airbag performed well in Euro NCAP's test and protection was good.
Tests on the front seats and head restraints demonstrated good protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision. A geometric analysis of the rear seats also indicated good whiplash protection. The Q4 e-tron has a system which applies the brake after a collision, to prevent secondary impacts, and an advanced eCall system which automatically alerts the emergency services in the event of a serious accident.
