2022 Subaru Solterra teased as New Electric SUV Co-Developed with Toyota

Closely related to the Toyota bZ4X Concept shown at Shanghai last month, it’s being co-developed by Subaru and Toyota, and will launch in mid-2022 in Europe, China, Japan, Canada and the United States.

The Solterra will be underpinned by an all-new EV-dedicated architecture, named the e-Subaru Global Platform (e-TNGA), and will benefit from Subaru’s AWD expertize and Toyota’s electrification technology.

Toyota's bZ4X electric crossover concept in North America for the first time.

The vehicle will arrive in the US in mid-2022.

Roughly the size of a RAV4, with the versatility to stand apart from other BEVs, it will be well-positioned in the sweet spot of the market

The most fanciful element is the yoke-style steering wheel that's on display in some of the pictures. Although, other shots show a traditional, circular wheel, so this feature might be something exclusive to the show car.

The cabin includes a digital instrument cluster, a widescreen infotainment display, and a tiny screen for the HVAC system. The center console includes a knob for selecting the drive modes.

2023 Subaru Solterra EV teased: reveals its exterior and interiors.

Solterra is scheduled to go on sale in mid-2022 as a 2023 model year vehicle.

Subaru is showing us all kinds of views of its upcoming Solterra electric crossover today. Teasers for the front, rear, side and interior of the crossover are available.

Subaru’s last exterior teaser shows the entire side profile, including production wheels. This is where it’s given away that the Solterra is going to look nearly identical to its Toyota twin (the car is being jointly developed with Toyota), the bZ4X. The two are just about exact copies of each other from the side, as they share every body line and crease down to the lights in front and back. Even the body cladding/Toyota trim decor shapes are the same. Subaru’s one differentiator we can see here is in wheel design. The wheels on the Solterra appear more rugged than the stylish rims on the bZ4X

Subaru confirmed that all-wheel drive will be standard with the Solterra. It also claimed “ample back-seat and cargo room,” but did not provide figures or photos to back the claim up. Lastly, Subaru said to expect it to come with “advanced safety technology,” but didn’t further define what that tech consisted of

some sharp LED lights on either side of the hatch with a spoiler in between them. There’s a ton of badging out back with five total emblems (including the center Subaru logo). The blue “EV” logo in the lower right corner is the most intriguing new badge. Below the bumper is some black plastic cladding, presumably to give the EV’s rear some rugged vibes.

The front view gives us our first glance at the car’s LED headlights. They’re sharp and angular, matching the shape of the sheet metal formed around them. The hood line appears to turn sharply upwards right after the headlight ends, too. We can see the smallest glimpse of the grille. A Subaru logo is visible through the forest, and flat black panels appear to be the backsplash for which the logo rests.

Perhaps the most exciting teaser photo of all is the single interior shot Subaru dropped today. It depicts a darkened interior in order to highlight the screens and basics of the interior design, and it sure does look upmarket versus Subaru’s current interior design language

Toyota bZ4X Battery To Retain 90% Capacity After 10 Years.

In other words, a car that has 500 km (311 miles) of range when new, should still have 450 km (280 miles) of range after 10 years

The currently available Toyota BEVs in China (C-HR and IZOA) had a target of about 75-80%, while the plug-in hybrid Priuses appear to be at about 50-55% (the first generation) and at about 60-65% (the second generation).

New Toyota bZ4X will get its European debut on 2nd December before orders open on 15th December.

bZ4X gets up to 214bhp and 280 miles of range.

It all boils down to pricing. Though the 0-100 timings looks average. Did Tesla spoil us? Or Toyota did something to compensate for range/ battery life?

Almost every traditional automaker is now into BEVs, the competition is heating up and that means better prices for us consumers. Hope the increased competition successfully cuts down Tesla's valuation to size before it solidifies itself at the Apple of BEVs.

Craptomakers like JLR need to shut shop, they have already lost the game. A hydrogen powered LandRover is just a bomb with a twitchy trigger.

2023 Toyota bZ4X Electric Crossover Debuts In U.S., Offers Up To 250 Mile Range:

bZ4X is pretty agreeable as the model features angular lines, plastic body cladding and contrasting accents. Other highlights include a split rear spoiler, full-width taillights and a pronounced rear pillar.

In terms of size, the model measures 184.6 inches (4689 mm) long, 73.2 inches (1859 mm) wide and 64.9 inches (1648 mm) tall, with a wheelbase that spans 112.2 inches (2850 mm). To put those numbers into perspective, the bZ4X is 3.7 inches (94 mm) longer, 0.2 inches (5 mm) wider and 2.1 inches (53 mm) lower than the RAV4. It also has a 6.3 inch longer (160 mm) wheelbase and this results in a truly spacious rear passenger compartment.

The entry-level variant has a 71.4 kWh lithium-ion battery, which powers a front-mounted electric motor that develops 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS). Customers can also get a dual-motor, all-wheel drive powertrain, which features a larger 72.8 kWh battery as well as front and rear electric motors that produce a combined output of 215 hp (160 kW / 218 PS). Neither output is terribly impressive and the bZ4X isn’t exactly lightweight as the front-wheel drive variant tips the scales at 4,232 lbs (1,920 kg), which is 862 lbs (391 kg) more than the entry-level RAV4.

Toyota will be introducing 15 dedicated BEVs globally by 2025 including seven wearing the bZ moniker.
