Mahindra to launch eKUV100 and eXUV300 by 2022

According to a media report, Mahindra is planning to launch the electric versions of the KUV100 and XUV300 by 2022. The eKUV100 and eXUV300, as the crossovers will be known, will be based on their internal combustion engine versions.

The eKUV100 and eXUV300 had been showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. Mahindra plans to make the eKUV100 the most affordable electric hatchback. The car displayed had a range of 147 km. It had a 15.9 kWh lithium-ion battery and a power output of 54 BHP and 120 Nm. Its battery could be charged to 80% using a fast charger in 55 minutes. The car was priced at Rs. 8.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The details of the eXUV300 were not revealed. However, considering its positioning in Mahindra’s product portfolio, it is expected to get a higher capacity battery compared to the eKUV100. It is also expected to have more power and a longer range.

Buddy, I've been waiting for the Altroz EV since Geneva 2019 and we still have no clue about it

That aside, I really hope that the cars launch ASAP. Also they need to change the front. It's way too weird.

The problem with this extended timeline is that by then, the XUV300 itself would be almost 4 years old already. The fact that the car itself is only moderately successful at best doesn’t help. No casual buyer will want to throw big money into an untested EV variant of an ageing car which hasn’t done too well to begin with. Mahindra better come up with a cracker of an EV drivetrain at an attractive price. They should also thoroughly refresh the car, like how Tata did with the Nexon EV.

Since they are taking so long to launch, hope they increase the battery sizes. Chinese manufacturers showcased nice looking cars with 60kwh batteries for 15lakh($20000) in the recent Shanghai motor show.

KUV100 needs atleast 30kwh battery for less than 10 lakh to be successful in the taxi market. Xuv300 EV is going to come 2 years after Nexon EV, give it a 40kwh battery for the same price as Nexon.

The EV technology that is offered in e-KUV has already become obsolete IMHO.
Wonder what system and technology is being used for e-XUV.

Mahindra needs a substantial re-work on the models to atleast make it a decent success.

This from a manufacturer that acquired the technology powering Reva like almost a decade ago? And not sure what are they going to achieve electrifying two cars that haven't really sold well. Ok, maybe just maybe the eXUV300 stands a bit of a chance.

Even after trying to enter all kinds of segments (electric cars, trucks, bikes, scooters and what not), fact of the matter is, Mahindra has remained primarily a maker of SUVs & MUVs. I don't think Mahindra saw the potential in electric cars enough to commit thousands of crores of R&D to it. They have now, but they will be late to the party.

I hope generation 1 Mahindra EVs are convincing. The company can develop good stuff when they commit to it (e.g. XUV300's petrol motor).

I still don't see a strategy from M&M that is long term enough and kinda aligns to the EV future we foresee.

MUV space does have potential but Mahindra Marazzo has no traction. Not sure if anything is going on there in terms of EV.

That leaves the SUV space. esp EV SUV space - even there, the Tata's have an upper hand with that brilliant Nexon EV. The gas guzzling ones will see the end of the line in not so distant future. So XUV/Scorpio/Thar/Bolero will buy them time for sure.

Mahindra needs to think clear, think fast and do a lot of catch up to future proof it's lineup. They have shown that they can execute a plan (new Thar/XUV are solid), can they think of the right one in the EV space?

Production-spec Mahindra eKUV100 EV spied ahead of 2022 launch. Same quirky looks!

Although I'm not a big fan of it's design, that "+ -" insignia at the back is a genius little touch. Love it.

Re: Mahindra to launch eKUV100 and eXUV300 by 2022

Mahindra should have taken this opportunity and re-designed the KUV's styling.

Just some simple toning of down of the cut and creases would have worked!

Re: Mahindra to launch eKUV100 and eXUV300 by 2022

A 15kw battery is like half of Tata Nexon.

Real world range would be around 100kms which will only increase range anxiety.

If mahindra increases the battery capacity, it could be a good competitor to the Nexon - EV, but its highly unlikely at this point of time.

I think its better for Mahindra to ditch the KUV electric and move ahead with the XUV 300 electric, which was touted to have a 40kw battery pack.

Re: Mahindra to launch eKUV100 and eXUV300 by 2022

I think Mahindra is planning to place this below the Nexon EV as a much affordable strictly city car. I've always thought that the KUV with a considerable amount of design changes would actually look good. But I don't know why Mahindra didn't take the opportunity. Aggressive pricing might save this EV.

This can be a fantastic option for the cabbies around about 8-10 Lakhs onroad hitting the sweet-spot. Plus this is significantly lower maintenance & a Mahindra logo which means longer life!
