Opel has unveiled its latest creation, the Manta GSe ElektroMOD.

The Opel Manta GSe is an updated and electrified version of the brand's 'Manta A' sports coupe from the 1970s. The new Opel Manta GSe ElektroMOD carries forward the iconic design of the original model yet comes packed with a host of tech, along with an all-electric powertrain.



The new Manta GSe ElektroMOD features the brand's Pixel Vizor at the front in place of the grille. The Opel Pixel Vizor is made up of an LED screen, which displays text messages. Flanking the LED screen at either end are a pair of LED headlamps with LED daytime running lights. The ElektroMOD also comes with three-dimensional LED tail lights at the back.



The new Opel Manta GSe comes in vibrant neon yellow paintwork with a contrasting black bonnet. The side profile is characterised by 17-inch stylish and lightweight alloy wheels.



Inside, the two-door Manta GSe features a pair of integrated screens, one for the digital instrument cluster and the other being the touchscreen infotainment system. The sedan also features a three-spoke steering wheel with a yellow marker in the 12 o'clock position; adding a bit of sportiness.

Powering the new Opel Manta GSe ElektroMOD is a 31 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, paired with an electric motor said to produce 147 BHP and 255 Nm. Opel also claims a maximum range of 200 kilometres for the Manta GSe. The electric powertrain is said to take about four hours to charge completely via a 9kW in-built charger unit.



However, the interesting part is that the electric motor sends all the power to the back, making it a rear-wheel-drive electric vehicle. The electric powertrain also comes mated with a four-speed manual gearbox, although the car can be engaged in fourth gear and driven automatically as well.



The new Opel Manta GSe ElektroMOD was created to showcase the brand's commitment towards emissions-free mobility. The Manta GSe is said to be a one-off model and is not expected to enter series production.

Looks so funky and cool and unlike the quirky electric car look!! Four speed manual + electric is nice! Should retain some of the charm of driving an old school ICE manual car.

Wow! It feels just like some celebrity chef making some exotic dish and then saying no one will be allowed to smell it or taste it.

DIY-ers on this forum itself have made geared evs out of popular cars, with somewhat similar power and range figures, albeit front wheel drive ones.

What is a big manufacturer trying to show off with this?

Oh man this is precisely the kind of retromod EV I want! What a great little thing. I really hope they do a small production run, if only just to generate some enthusiasm for the brand because really just look at that thing?
You get to tout your green credentials and still drive in a classic little fastback coupe shape of yore - what's not to like.

Since the PSA acquisition, it's been interesting to see Opel/Vauxhall be a little bolder from a styling standpoint and I think it's paying off. Along with the current crop of Peugeots, Vauxhaulls on these shores are handsome cars. That front end in particular reminds me of the slab black fascia on the current Vauxhaull/Opel Mokka E.

While its awesome looking, these kind of cars will not work as mass selling vehicles. Also with that kind of a body, and exposed wheels(in the front), this would be one of the most un-aerodynamic EVs. Modifying it to achieve Cd value (Coeff. Of Drag) targets would make it look very weird and unappealing in the end.

That's why they exist only as one-off prototypes or design exercises that help the comoany generate some PR and brong attention to their other more mundane/normal looking EVs

What a lively retro-cool electric car. Cars like this and the Peugeot e-Legend can go a long way in making many more petrolheads sway towards electric cars. Absolutely, love the combination of old styling and modern technology.

Nice to see how open has maintained the characteristics of the old Manta such as rear-wheel drive and a four-speed manual gearbox. This will surely get enthusiasts interested.

Similar to the Peugeot e-legend coupe that was unveiled a couple of years ago. This one was supposed to have a range of 600KMs.

Having owned yesteryears Opel Astra 1.6 Petrol for close to 8 years, I have a soft spot for brand Opel. It's nice to see that this concept electric car true to its original roots without the ubiquitous fluidic design. My Opel Astra had a similar if not same three spoke steering wheel. GM ruined Opel brand in India and rest of the world, good riddance for Opel, now that it is owned by the Groupe PSA. I am sure this would spark some interest in DIYer's or custom shops to retrofit an electric motor and its peripherals in an old Opel Manta which would be standing somewhere in some junkyard or barn.
