Audi has released the first set of teaser images of the 'Grand Sphere'. The concept car is said to be one of three models under Audi's 'Sphere' show cars. It previews the brand's new design language for its future EVs.



The first of the 'Sphere' models is the Grand Sphere. It is said to preview the successor of the brand's A8 saloon. While the concept version is expected to be unveiled at the 2021 Munich Auto Show, the final production version is scheduled to arrive in 2025. Once introduced, it will become the brand's new flagship luxury sedan.



The design of the Audi Grand Sphere is said to showcase a shift in the brand's design. The new design language is said to concentrate on improving the interior cabin space by reducing overhangs - made possible by the position of the electric powertrain.



Audi states that the cabin of the Grand Sphere will complement the buyer's living space at home, offering a lounge-like design. The cabin is said to come with lounge seats with a central 'refreshment area', replacing the infotainment system seen on current models.



The new Audi Grand Sphere is said to be underpinned by the PPE platform from the Volkswagen Group. This new platform will also underpin other models such as the next-gen Porsche Macan electric SUV and the Audi Q6 e-tron.

What is this in the center arm rest area ? Is it an actual plant ! Talk about car makers taking the 'going green' thing way too seriously Of all the concept cars seen so far, never seen one with a plant. I hope that is not a tall gear lever either

I feel it is more of a luxury version of a automated/grid based travel pod. If that is the case, why even bother with the guise of a conventional car from the outside?

Pure speculation from my end of course, because I don't see any drive controls. Just enter destination and relax?

Audi Skysphere concept teaser revealed. The Skysphere is part of Audi's new trilogy of concepts that also includes the Grand Sphere and Urban Sphere.







The Audi Skysphere Concept will debut on August 10 at the Audi design center in Malibu, California.



To tease the upcoming model, Audi Head of Design Marc Lichte and Audi Senior Vice President Henrik Wenders star a video where they discuss the vehicle's inspiration.

Well, if S class is what are targetting with this, then I think they have got it completely wrong.

S class is all about 'understated elegance' while still being opulent and loaded with futuristic technologies. It's been the perfect blend years over years and well accepted in the auto world.

While there is no doubt Audi will leave no stone unturned to craft the most opulent interiors; at first glance though, it appears as if it is trying too hard to grab attention IMHO.

Audi has unveiled the Grandsphere concept, which showcases the brand's future design direction.



The Grandsphere stretches out to 5350mm long, 2000mm wide and with a wheelbase of 3190mm, the Grandsphere is a good deal larger than even the long-wheelbase version of the A8.



The ultra-slim headlights sit atop each corner of the grille.



Unique rear with thin light fixtures and a red illuminated Audi logo.



The rear doors open backwards and there is no B-pillar to maximise cabin space and airiness. Passengers are welcomed aboard with individually staged displays and ambient light, the climate control and seats are automatically adjusted to occupant's preferences as soon as they sit down.



The concept uses the PPE platform, developed in partnership with Porsche, which will underpin the new Q6 E-tron and Macan EV next year.



The Grandsphere is powered by two electric motors, one for each axle for all-wheel drive. The total combined output is 710 hp and 960 Nm. A 0-100 time is claimed in just over four seconds.



It has a 120kWh battery capable of charging at speeds of up to 270kW. A recharge from 5 to 80 percent could be achieved in as little as 25 minutes. Audi expects the Grandpshere to achieve a range of 750 kilometres in the real world.



The interior is where the concept showcases its most futuristic elements. Notably there are no screens the full-width MMI infotainment display projects atop the wooden surface of the dash, displaying things like audio controls and navigation.



In Level 4 autonomous mode, the steering wheel and pedals retract into the body for a full driverless experience.



The expansive interior allows for a near-equally lavish set-up in the rear, where occupants sit on a sofa-style bench. Audi even made room for a little potted plant between the two front seats.



Audi claims to be working on a production version, the successor of the brand's A8 saloon. It goes on sale in 2025 after a 2024 debut.
