I was comparing SKD and CKD. You are right CBU will attract 100% tax in EV6's case but one correction CKD attracts least taxes. SKD is taxed slightly higher.

Apologies, I stand corrected. What I meant to convey is that Hyundai does not want to 'offset' any critical tech transfer / bits to India. Hence the SKD route where the drivetrain arrives preassembled from the SK mother plant. Paying 5-10% extra is fine I assume. Soothes the SK workers too.

Re: Driving Impressions : Hyundai Ioniq 5

Just curious if anyone has heard anything about the launch event supposed to happen on Sept 6 as reported by few websites. I spoke to my local dealership and they had no idea about it.

Re: Driving Impressions : Hyundai Ioniq 5

Still no official news on the launch date and pricing for the Ioniq5. I was thinking they might release it to compete with the BYD Atto3 launch on Oct 11 and get some eyes on it.

I am really keen on Ioniq5, hoping it gets a competitive pricing, but given its global popularity doubt it would be priced <35L.

Re: Driving Impressions : Hyundai Ioniq 5

My SA from Hyundai in Bangalore reached out. They are unofficially taking pre-bookings for the Ioniq 5 at Rs 25k fully refundable.

Highly doubt it. They would've simply taken the LR model equivalent to Kia EV6 and done a CKD to reach those prices. Entry level at max will be 40L ex-showroom is my prediction.

It is expected to be a CKD only as far as I know. And you can compare pricing of the new Tucson and Ioniq 5 in other international markets (despite the petrol Tucson having same engine as Alcazar), Although I would be one of the first people to buy it if it happens 40L ex showroom is highly unlikely.

Re: Driving Impressions : Hyundai Ioniq 5

If one compares the CKD prices in Australia for Kona EV vs Ioniq 5 and then compare the Ex-Showroom price of Kona EV in India.
Expect a Ex-Showroom price of Rs 33L for the Ioniq 5 2wd variant base model, assuming its CKD.

But considering there is no competitor for that size in India, expect Hyundai to price it higher.

BYD and Hyundai are probably waiting for who announces the price first for Atto 3 and Ioniq 5.

Re: Driving Impressions : Hyundai Ioniq 5

The base model of the Ioniq5 is so barebones, when you compare it with the Atto3.

Ioniq is such a stunner though, top marks for looks; But not a lot of marks for practicality in India with its very low ground clearance, high turning radius, lack of rear wiper and such.

I was dreaming about the Ioniq5 but seeing all these issues have made me rethink.

Ioniq 5 base variant will be a CKD of the 58 kWh battery variant. The EV6 has a 77 kW battery and it's fully loaded. So both taxes and the variant makes the EV6 much more expensive.

40L ex-showroom is pretty much the worst case for the base variant in my opinion. Need to account for the Indian rupee strengthening against the south korean won as well as how Kona got decimated by the ZS EV in sales. Strategy behind launching the Ioniq 5 first instead of Kona facelift also seems to add credence to the product positioning of Ioniq 5 by bringing in the cheaper variant first. They would've gone with the LR model for the 45L+ bracket if that was their target.

Hyundai india has updated details about Ioniq 5 on its official website.

No official announcements yet but it seems they might target auto expo for its launch.
