re: The Tata Nexon EV Max, launched at Rs. 17.74 lakh (pg 18)

Wow, kudos to Tata, they are looking bullish on all their products, the best thing is they are taking feedback seriously. Some people complained about the braking and range on Nexon EV, and Tata seems to be adressing it. Nexon EV with an extended range and better brakes would be such a strong proposition.

re: The Tata Nexon EV Max, launched at Rs. 17.74 lakh (pg 18)

What the Nexon EV needs are the following:
1. Cruise Control
2. Selective regen

Its much easier to drive at constant speeds and thus eek out the range from an EV when one can just engage a nice sedate speed on cruise control and let the car do its thing.

If the regen can be tweaked depending on the driving conditions, that would also be a boon and could eek out some KMs. For example, low to mid regen for the highways where you'd wanna carry speed off throttle and high regen in the cities where you usually need to slow down aggressively. Also, high regen will save the brakes!

Why are these cars being driven in camouflaged exterior if the changes are only battery and disc brakes. Even if there are external cosmetic changes (which i presume could be very minor in this case) - do they need to camouflage ?

Two more things to be added

1. DC charging speeds to be atleast 50KWH.
2. Better cooling systems. We have seen many youtube instances wherein if a person recharges using fast charger frequently during highway travel, Car refuses to charge.
Tata Customer care suggests to cool down the car for 20 minutes and then try recharging.

If not how do we discuss it here? How can media pick it for discussion? How can the hype be created?

These are all part of marketing.

re: The Tata Nexon EV Max, launched at Rs. 17.74 lakh (pg 18)

The increase in battery size will drive up the price considerably and Tata wouldn't want to over price it. I know many of us have several features / improvements we want implemented in this update however we need to keep our expectations in check.

I have to agree with @jalsa777

1. Cruise Control
2. Selective regen

because this will actually help increase the range of the Nexon and at not too high of a cost.

Whether that needs incremental or exponential improvements, people expect things to fit their expectation - just to be taken as a serious option.

Just confirmed from my sources that the longer range Nexon EV is likely not launching this year. Also the new and bigger battery is said to be quite heavy and expensive as compared to the current one so it's going to be a nightmare at the time of replacing the battery and also the overall dynamics of the car are likely to take a hit due to the added weight.

But knowing how Tata tunes it's suspension systems these days, I would say that they will still find the perfect balance between ride and handling for the new and improved Nexon EV.
Microchips are in short supply, increasing costs
Lithium is in short supply, increasing costs
Frankly, IMO Nexon EV is anyway barely pushing its pricing limits with the interior quality.

Tata mustn't be willing to incur heavy development costs (Battery management systems, diagnostics training, battery logistics, suspension tuning can only go so far in a small cSUV), all while having to clear off a large part of its huge debt.

Maybe MG can afford this because their parent company would have developed it for other countries in larger scale. Even then this is the worst time (simply due to the microchip & lithium shortages) to develop EVs.

Current Nexon EV and long-range version will exist simultaneously at different price points.

The updated Nexon EV is also expected to feature selectable re-gen modes

The updated model could have a range of over 400km on the official test cycle. Thus, a real-world range of 300-320km can be expected on a single charge.

Long-range Tata Nexon EV launch by April - Source

Tata could be offering the 6.6kW AC charger as an option to reduce charging time with the larger battery, although the current 3.3kW AC charger is also expected to be retained.

The upgrade of AC charging also means that we will have fast charging DC update as well.

Maybe, but it does not necessarily have to be an upgrade to DC charging power. The upgrade from 3.3kW to 6.6kW AC power just means that the onboard charger (which converts AC power to DC to supply traction battery) is upgraded.

However, the increase in capacity from 30kWh to 40kWh tells that if Tata wants to retain the same C-rating of 1 (ie charge full capacity from 0-100% in 1 hour) for the bigger pack, then there is a good chance that the DC charging power will be increased from 30kW to 40kW. I guess they will. My guesstimate of charging times based on 40kWh model will be:

6.6kW AC charger => 40kWh/6.6kW => ~7hours (including charging losses) - This is a reduction in 3 hours compared to the current AC charging speed

And if they retain same C-rating for the bigger pack (40kW charge power for 40kW battery pack), then DC charging time will have no difference w.r.t. the outgoing model.

Should it be read as current spec car will continue without any changes alongside new LR variant (which comes with two unique chargers) OR we can expect some changes to current variant as well ?

well, there seems to be a correlation between AC charging capacity and DC charging capacity. Nexon advertises 3.3/25 but in reality it is 2.8/21.
I look at MG having 7/50, Mercedes 11/80. This is how I made my previous assumption.

MG is 7/75, not 7/50.
