Electric vehicle sales triple in H1 FY2022

Electric vehicle sales are on the rise in India. According to the Centre for Energy Finance at Council on Energy, Environment and Water at Centre for Energy Finance (CEEW-CEF), EV sales tripled in the first half of the current fiscal.

As per CEEW-CEF data, more than 1.18 lakh EVs were sold in H1 FY2022, which is 90% of the total EV sales last fiscal. These include 58,264 electric 2-wheelers and 59,808 3-wheelers.

It is said that there has been a surge in both demand and supply of EVs. Customer outreach, improved charging infrastructure, falling battery prices and subsequent drop in the prices of products are said to be some of the reasons which are driving sales.

There are other factors at play as well, including the rising prices of petrol and diesel. Further, financial incentives by the Central and state government are also wooing EV buyers.

The numbers will definitely increase, with the growing infrastructure along with more companies investing in EV tech. TATA will benefit the most from this with the rising fuel costs and also with little to no competition in that particular segment. It will be very interesting once Tesla finally enters the market.

This will see a huge surge once Ola starts delivering i feel.

Also the electric 2 wheeler market has a better offering now than say 2 years ago and people are more receptive to it.

This probably also has a lot to do with the fact that there are more EVs available than there were, along with the fact that this time last year car sales were nearly at rock bottom.

But good to see the trend nonetheless, as awareness and infrastructure keeps building the move to EVs will keep increasing.

Electric car sales speed to 25,000 units in April-November.

While the 25,771 ePVs of April-November 2022 constitute a little over 1 percent – it’s 1.17% – of the total 2,203,720 PVs retailed in the Indian market, the YoY growth is 180% (April-November 2021: 9,202 ePVs)

Especially considering they’re selling the pre facelift model in India when the second gen has already been showcased in Korea! 😅

I guess they’ll skip the facelift and start selling the second gen when it comes out.

At least that's not what the dealer in our area said anyway. Had casually enquired about the Kona and came to know that the facelifted current gen Kona available abroad would be made available in India this year albeit with the smaller battery

I guess that’s something. Let’s hope it comes before the second Gen Kona is out. Honestly I feel like the second Gen Kona Electric and Kia Niro Electric will really bring EVs into the mainstream mid range price bracket. Just imagine if the CKD Ioniq can cost 45L with local production, we could potentially be able to see CKD Konas and Niros come in close to 30L. That would be an awesome proposition.

Re: Electric vehicle sales triple in H1 FY2022

EV Market: TATA motors' market share reduces as more players chip in.

Quote:
Electric PV market leader Tata Motors, which has the largest portfolio comprising the Nexon EV, Tigor EV, Tiago EV and the Xpres-T (for fleet buyers), has sold 39,699 units, which gives it a 74.61% market share. Its market share used to be in excess of 80% but has now reduced due to the expanding and dynamic EV market which now has wider product choice from rivals.
August 2023: 6,750 units, up 100% YoY, down 12.42% MoM (July 2023: 7,708 units)

Jan-Aug 2023: 53,206 units, up 132% YoY (Jan-Aug 2022: 22,951 units)

Re: Electric vehicle sales triple in H1 FY2022

This increase is really good and I hope will incentivise fast charging companies and startups. But the
real phase transition will happen when EVs percolate to the lower rug of the market. This is the reason I am really keen to follow the growth of tiago EV. It can become the cult classic like the Maruti 800 if only Tata motors playes their cards correctly.
