Porsche Taycan EV outsells flagship 911 sports car

Porsche has announced the sales results of the first three quarters of this year (Jan - Sept 2021). The German carmaker recorded a 13 per cent increase in sales, with 217,198 units sold worldwide.

However, the highlight of the results were the sales figures of the brand's first fully electric offering, the Taycan which for the first time outsold Porsche's iconic 911 sports car. Porsche sold 28,640 units of the Taycan EV while sales of the 911 sports car stood at 27,972 units.

The Porsche Cayenne continues to be the brand's most successful model worldwide with 62,451 units of sales, followed by the Macan with 61,944. The Porsche Panamera registered a 1 per cent growth with 20,275 units of sales, while the 718 Cayman and Boxster models registered nearly 16,000 units.

With the success of the Porsche Taycan EV, the German carmaker is now said to be working on a fully electric version of the Macan SUV as well. Porsche has confirmed that the electric Macan will debut in 2023 and will be the first model to be underpinned by the brand's new PPE electric platform.

Re: Porsche Taycan EV outsells flagship 911 sports car

It's quite the achievement, especially given the fact that it outsells both the 911 and the Panamera. Infact, Taycan is the third most popular model in Porsche's line-up and the most popular vehicle that's not a SUV. So, if Porsche comes up with an electric SUV, we can expect it to outsell even the Cayenne eventually.

For the uber-rich living in the developed world, the electric age is already here!

Re: Porsche Taycan EV outsells flagship 911 sports car

Wow, outselling the entire 911 family.

Bravo to the Taycan.

With how they've seemed to have nailed the Taycan, it's gonna be very interesting to see how the electric versions of the Porsche Macan and the Cayenne will turnout.

So what's next after the Electrification of the Porsche SUV's?

A Hybrid 911 or perhaps an Electric and/or Hybrid 718?

What ever it maybe, the future beyond ICE's looks to be exciting.

+1 to your comment on SUV in the lineup. Look at the URUS' success in India. If Porsche brings a electric SUV based on Taycan's e-drive, then it will be a huge hit!

Kudos Porsche. That is impressive. To make matters a little more hotter, Porsche outsold Tesla Model S 2:1 with the Taycan. Time to wakeup Tesla, competitors are knocking your door.
