Earlier this week, Mahindra announced the financial results for Q2 and H1 FY2022. The carmaker also shared some details about its future products during the online press conference.



According to Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director, Mahindra & Mahindra, the company plans to introduce 13 SUVs by 2027. These will include 8 electric models. Between 2025 and 2027, Mahindra plans to launch 4 electric SUVs in the market.

Out of the 13 SUVs, the company has already launched the Thar. A 5-door version of the Thar is expected to debut post-2023. The next-generation Scorpio will be launched in 2022. A hybrid version of the XUV700 is also on the cards.

Mahindra's Q2 revenue grew by 15% to Rs. 13,305 crores. Consolidated revenues were up 12% to Rs. 21,470 crores.

The Farm Equipment Sector (FES) also registered growth. The tractor market share rose by 1.9% to 40.1% compared to Q2 FY2021.

From what limited observations I made, words like “vision”, usually indicate a concept car. Calling it a launch of any kind would be a stretch, though I’d love to be proven wrong.

The location being UK also makes it less likely a “Commercial launch” or even production ready unveiling, since they’d rather do it in India itself if that’s the market they are aiming for.

Even though biggies like BMW and Audi have their global events, they don’t miss a local one when the time comes. Mahindra is far from them, I’d not expect anything more than concept cars.

4 out of 8 after 2025, means that there is no electric vehicle that is even close to production in the Mahindra stable. They, like MS, are playing the waiting game, content to be selling diesel SUVs and expecting to learn from all missteps that Tata will invariably make, and also waiting for the infrastructure to build up before taking a plunge into the market.

They have burnt their fingers once before (with e2o/ everito) and they are reluctant to try again (even though the said burnt fingers was most probably due to mismanagement and lack of planning rather than any real issues, technological or otherwise)

The government has started prioritizing EVs by facilitating charging stations and swapping tech investment, and in the next stage, maybe by next year, should start what european and american governments started over half a decade ago, regulations on a certain improvement in mileage of new cars, which can only happen with introduction of EVs, forcing all automakers to speed up introduction of EV and other alternate fuel vehicles.

I apologise if it’s off topic, but, Is it only me or does it look like a blatantly fabricated image to generate views on part of Car&Bike?

Just look at the left door frame on the top image. Imperfect masking.

The background certainly doesn’t look like india by any means, looks like UK to me. The bottom image has a very conspicuous incoherence in the perspective of the shot.

The image is an old one, regurgitated now with the teaser released. If that is the case, why even bother to change background (to one which doesn’t even look like india while at that)

It’s not like people would remember it’s a regurgitated image, but would sure make us notice the poor attempt at recycling old spy shots with Photoshop. Unintentionally so, exposing themselves.

Those "exclusive" spy images captured by Car&Bike looks like are just of a camouflaged SsangYong Korando EV that was unveiled globally last year.

Volkswagen, M&M to evaluate use of MEB electric components.

Volkswagen and M&M announced that they have signed a Partnering Agreement on May 18 to evaluate the scope of collaboration and exploring the use of MEB electric components for Mahindra’s new “Born Electric Platform”.

Mahindra intends to equip its “Born Electric Platform” with MEB electric components such as electric motors, battery system components and battery cells. The Partnering Agreement evaluates the scope of collaboration – it indicates binding rules for the evaluation phase as well as the non-binding scope of supply. The binding supply agreement will be negotiated in a continued constructive and legally compliant way to conclude by the end of 2022.

Commenting on the partnership, Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director, Auto and Farm Sectors, M&M added: “We are very pleased to have Volkswagen, a significant global investor in the electric mobility space, as a strategic partner in achieving our ambitious Born Electric Vison. Three all-electric SUVs – compact, midsize and coupe – are on the cards.

the SUV Coupe concept would be a preview for the XUV900 coupe, the midsize SUV could sit alongside the XUV700, and the smallest SUV concept could be a preview for an all-new compact electric SUV concept.

These cars would be a compact SUV, a midsize SUV and an SUV coupe, and being “Born Electric” vehicles, they are not going to be EV derivatives of ICE-powered models, but will be all-new models.

Mahindra had confirmed earlier that the XUV.e9 will share its battery pack and motor options with the XUV.e8 SUV, which is scheduled to arrive in the market next year. Expect the range-topping version to get an 80kWh battery powering two motors – one of each axle, so simulating AWD. Expect power outputs to range between 230hp and 350hp. Mahindra claims that the battery pack should allow for a range of 435-450km, under WLTP testing norms.
