According to a media report, the all-electric successor to Volvo's XC90 SUV could be called 'Embla'. Reports suggest that the name 'Embla' was trademarked by the company back in October, and has been taken from Norse mythology.



The naming of the XC90 successor is in-line with the brand's earlier decision to use proper phonetic names, instead of the current alpha-numeric designations for future products.



The successor to the Volvo XC90 was unveiled earlier this year in the form of the Concept Recharge. The concept SUV is said to have been custom-built for electrification and also previews the design language of Volvo's all future EV products.

Volvo XC90 will remain in production after its electric 'Embla' successor goes on sale, as sales of petrol and hybrid cars continue to exceed those of electric cars.

XC90 will receive another facelift to keep it fresh alongside its more advanced electric successor, as by the time it is revealed later this year, the current model will be eight years old – following its global reveal in August 2014, making it Volvo's oldest model.

Volvo Embla: discover the brand's next electric SUV, the successor to the XC90!

Planned for 2023, it will incorporate Level 4 autonomous driving, more efficient battery and a sustainable interior.

It is an SUV that is being developed in collaboration with high-tech giants such as NVIDIA, Luminar and Google, and will be an important step for total electrification in the Swedish brand.

It's still too early to talk about performance, but the SUV is very likely to offer two-way charging and V2G technology. With these qualities, the Embla could become a kind of electricity emitter to power electrical equipment.

seems like a Polestar version. it's their design language all over. that said, it looks like they did not go too adventurous as it looks to me that the Body Shell of the XC90 is pretty much the same.

A leak from the European register of patents and trade names has confirmed the provisional name of the future "Volvo EXC90".

Safety in mind:

The EX90 will have a radar inside to detect the presence of people or animals.

This radar is capable of detecting the breathing of a sleeping child and will measure the entire cabin. When the car is blocked the radar will be activated and if it detects movement it will not be blocked and will give a warning.
