This is a common fault.
Move away from your car for atleast 30mins with the key. The car needs to get into deep sleep mode which means not using the ismart app as well.
Try restarting as usual post this time.

Yes, tried this method several times with no result. Also I removed battery connection for 30 mins as advised by service manager in MG Hyderabad, nothing worked .

Any idea as to how this happens? Does it only occur when we try multiple times to charge? God Speed

I just got home from Kochi, driving 200 Kilometres after taking delivery of the vehicle yesterday. I started late and the battery was 94 percent. I drove in Eco and the AC was fine and the remaining charge is 34 percent now. I will plug it into the 15amp socket tomorrow as I need to check out the charging procedure as I couldn't get a demo during the delivery as I wanted to get some sleep and they were having multiple deliveries hence didn't want to spend time there. I will write a detailed report of the purchase and first drive but before that I want to thank you guys for being here and answering all my questions. Thank you. God Speed

Sorry to hear this.

Is your car a 2022 facelift version or the previous version?

This problem I have seen intermittently being reported in ZS EV online forums for the pre-facelift models.

One of the other hacks suggested is to do a hard reset by disconnecting the 12V battery altogether and reconnecting it. If you have a 10mm spanner, this is easy, otherwise, you will have to get a nearby auto-mechanic to do it for you.

Best of luck.

Was the car in ready mode when you tried charging it?

Yes, the car was in ready mode at first try... when I tried to lock the car, I realised and switched it off. Car is 3 months old, got it delivered on Oct 27, 2022.

Would be keen to know the RCA that your service center provides. This is a harrowing situation to be in while on an intercity trip.

So whats the SOP of fast charging to reduce the chances of these errors?
- Shut down the car
- Get out
- Unlock and start charging
- Lock the car and sit out
- Once charging is complete (check on app)
- Unlock the car and unplug
- Start the car / go to ready state

Now can the car's AC be used while it is fast charging (someone suggested how to) and does that increase the likelihood of these errors? I want to try long drives but these issues are anxiety raising. My family has low tolerance to these type of issues.

Today, I have taken my ZS EV for servicing (2nd service @ 5K Km) and discussed your problem with the EV specialist looking after my vehicle's service. According to him, this problem occurs when there is voltage fluctuation at the DC charger end. If the car detects that the incoming voltage is either too high or too low (not constant), it sort of immobilizes the vehicle to protect the HV battery.
The vehicle will not move until the fault codes are cleared. Though a 5-minutes job, it can be done only at an MG service facility. He was categorical that the problem was with the charger and not the vehicle and the shutdown happens only to isolate the HV battery from any serious damage that can arise due to voltage fluctuations.
May I know which charger were you trying to connect to your vehicle?

This seems to be the issue. Switching to ready mode either via app or by connecting the charger to a running car seems to trigger these issues. I have seen this happen with certain chargers as well. Relux being the culprit couple of times. MG plays it very safe by shutting off the HV battery but puts the users under a lot of inconvenience.

Your steps seem good but I think locking the car and sitting out seems extreme. I have done multiple DC charging sessions where I have been in the car running the AC after pressing the power button twice without holding the brake.

Unfortunately, it's been pretty hard to find out the exact RCA in these failure situations. Silver lining to the story is that there is generally no lasting damage to the car or battery.

Yes, while we were there, two Tata Nexons and one MG ZS EV used the charge without any issues.

Ya I understand. Looks the combination of turning on the car and using a delta charger together is causing the car to shut off. Needs MG and Tata Power folks to investigate and find the root cause.
