Xiaomi electric car spied for the first time

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi had announced its plans to enter the global electric vehicle market in 2021.

Now, a year later, an image has been leaked online, which according to reports, is believed to be of the upcoming electric vehicle from Xiaomi. The images showcase a long, low-slung 4-door electric sedan. However, there are no confirmed details at this time.

Xiaomi had previously announced that they were planning to set up an electric vehicle manufacturing unit in Beijing. The facility will be built in phases, and once complete, it should have a production capacity of 3,00,000 units per annum. The manufacturing unit is said to begin mass production in 2024.

On a lighter note, Imagine, your car asking (forcing) you to see an advertisement before you being able to start the car and drive on.

After every hard braking, you may have to watch an ad before you get going

On a serious note, I'm concerned that anybody and everybody is getting into EV business. Vehicles should be vehicles first, gadgets later.

Re: Xiaomi electric car spied for the first time

Before these Chinese electric cars sweep away all our market (seems inevitable now), the Tatas, Mahindras and others must up the game and avail the first mover advantage. The Government also should intervene, subsidising electric cars made in India and creating the right atmosphere for the charging infrastructure to grow.

It looks better than I expected! The Shelby Racing Stripes are a bit out of place but at a good price this will definitely sell. That looks super long too.

Re: Xiaomi electric car spied for the first time

This might just be a prototype and the final design may change as well.
At first glabce, definitely seems to have a long coupe/ vibe to it.

On a side note, every tech company seems to think it can take on the big daddys of the automotive manufacturing since the playing field seems to have been levelled out due to the inherently similar set up of batteries + electric motors drive train for a BEV.

Exciting times indeed.

Re: Xiaomi electric car spied for the first time

Is that a camera pod or a scanner pod that seems to be mounted on the car? At first I thought it was the top of another vehicle parked next the Xiaomi. But this EV is Huge!

Exactly same for me. After reading your comment seen the image again. It seems like Google map vehicle.

Jokes apart, hope Xiaomi will make a proper car, not a 'car built around a big tab' like MG.

Re: Xiaomi electric car spied for the first time

Other than that Camera pod on the top , I definitely think this car is gonna give serious competion in term of styling for sedans. Since it's Xiomi we can pretty much expect the price to be very very competitive if it does come to the Indian Market (importing won't be an option since then the price would be then be double, so they will have to "Make in India" or something)

Re: Xiaomi electric car spied for the first time

Very sad to say but seems the legacy of automotive industry is going to be eroded with so many electronic,/ mobile phone companies entering it. Earlier discussions revolved around bhp, torque now going forward screen size, battery capacity, charging speed and possibly ram size, processor type are going to replace the average Joe discussions.

I think this is the top of the line Xiaomi CAR 1 Pro Max and hope Xiaomi CAR 1 Lite will be an affordable hatchback with 400 KMs of range

Were they not in the news sometime back for developing a hydrogen powered bike which could do 1000 km in one litre of hydrogen?

Xiaomi electric car prototype to be unveiled in August

According to a media report, Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi will be unveiling the engineering prototype of its first electric car in August 2022. As per reports, the Xiaomi electric car prototype will be unveiled by the company's founder Lei Jun at a public event next month.

Once unveiled, the engineering prototype will then undergo a series of tests in the near future. Reports suggest that Xiaomi is accelerating its timeline, with the company aiming for a 2024 mass-production of its first model. The facility will be built in phases with an initial capacity of 1,50,000 units per year, which will double to 3,00,000 units once the plant is completely built.

Ahead of its unveiling, an image of the Xiaomi electric car was leaked online recently. The leaked image showcases a long low-slung 4-door sedan model.

Reports also suggest that Xiaomi has plans to introduce 4 electric cars across two different segments. The entry-level offerings are said to be in the price range of US$22,000 - $29,000 and will get L2+ autonomous driving. The higher segment products will be priced between US$29,000 - $44,000 and will come with L3 autonomous driving tech.

Xiaomi announced its plans to enter the global electric car market in 2021. The company even committed a US$10 billion investment towards its new automotive division over the next ten years.
