Earlier today, Volvo India announced the launch of the XC40 Recharge. The Swedish brand has also confirmed that it would introduce its second EV in the Indian market in 2023.



Volvo’s second EV for the Indian market will be the C40 Recharge. It will be imported as a completely built unit (CBU).

The C40 Recharge is based on the CMA platform, which is shared with the XC40. It’s an SUV with a coupe-like roofline, and has a front end that looks similar to the XC40 Recharge. The interior, too, is identical to the XC40 with a 3-spoke steering wheel, a digital instrument cluster and a large touchscreen infotainment in the centre.



The dual-motor setup powered by a 78 kWh battery is the same hardware offered in the XC40 Recharge. The combined output of the electric motors is 408 BHP and 660 Nm, while the battery offers a maximum range of 418 km on a single charge.

Looks awesome as the other Volvos. Hopefully the EVs help them crack some good sales numbers in India, which unfortunately their ICE cars couldn't, being a fully loaded and a safer car in comparison to the respective segment counterparts.

Don't think its going to be near that figure. Globally it seems that the XC40 and C40 are similarly (some cases C40 being more expensive) priced as far as I read the figures right.

Volvo C40 will definetely be priced higher than XC40.
Also looks sportier.

The XC40 is a CKD in India unless I am mistaken. Expect to pay considerably more for the styling of the C40.

The XC40 shall be an all round better buy. Hopefully the waiting period for the XC40 is lower now than what it was.

I happened to talk to a sales rep at volvo and he said that the C40 will be cheaper than the XC40.

Hence we can expect a cheaper Volvo EV.

Nope. That just means that XC40 recharge will see a hike in prices and C40 will fill the resultant void.

Usually the coupé version is priced higher, and so it is with XC40/C40 here in Finland. I will be surprised to see C40 priced below XC40 assuming they are both CKD (or CBU).

What a stunning car again from Volvo! Love their design language. Guess BMW can use some kind of inspiration from Volvo design-wise.
Looks like the C40 Recharge will be priced at a premium over the XC40 Recharge, something like what Audi did with their Q3 sport back.
Would be great if they surprise us with a lower price tag although!

Does this have the updated, more efficient, rear wheel biased powertrain, or is Volvo continuing to give us the older one (which has the same power figures, but has lesser range)?

I’d guess 59.99 lacs, considering the XC40 Recharge is 56.9 lacs.
