There is a dedicated thread

So you mean to say, that across all OEMs in India the production capacity is just 3000 odd EV cars. I guess this is because the demand is limited due to prices + other reasons. I talked to many people who buy news cars, most are not aware about the waiting periods on EV, why? Because they have never even checked or considered the EVs.

Tiago with its mass appeal and hopefully sub 10 lakh cost will help in faster adoption.

Tigor EV's base variant starts at 12.5 lakhs.

If the Tiago EV has the same specs, I dont know how much lower they can price it.

A sub 10 lakh base variant does not seem likely, unless it has lesser power and range.

Autocar India is reporting that the base variant may come with the 41hp motor from the Xpres-T, while the higher variant may offer the Ziptron motor from the Tigor EV.

Tata may look to straddle a wider price range with the Tiago to lure customers. A starting price of 9 lakhs ex-showroom is not out of question if they use the electric motor from the Xpres-T. Although, it may not be a viable option for most private buyers.

We just exchanged our Eon for a Tata Harrier and this is great news for a city beater car. With EV charging infra set-up in the building compound, it becomes a perfect car for the wifey and the daily short trips in the city.

Kudos to Tata!

A sub 10L EV would be a welcome step. Come to think of it, a proper automatic transmission (not AMT), small footprint, silent car, nice torque, perfect beater for city and town mobility.

Why we are talking about AMT for EV? The tranny (e drive through motor) will be a single speed for Tiago. All other points are very relevant.

Only a couple of years ago, some manufacturers were introducing EV's with a new model name and with totally new body shells and all else.

Perhaps many have realised their EV policy folly and now we have EV's from manufacturers using an existing ICE model body shell, with all its appendages but for the fuel tank, engine, some other ICE related mechanicals. The same model name with the "EV" badge suffix and the electricals, makes it eligible for duty sops and gives it a green number plate.

Only hope that the traffic cops do not confuse themselves and like their Kerala counterparts (they had just done it for an Ather EV scooter) , issue PUC challans for such EV's confusing it with the ICE fitted Tiago.

Brilliant move and was pretty much expected. Tigor EV has revived the sales of the only low selling model from TATA and now it does 4k+ almost consistently. Tiago will just do better considering its a very popular model. Pricing of course is the key.

We already have solutions in place in smaller scale as of now. ElectricPe is a startup based out of Bangalore providing charging infra in apartments. They setup charging points in designated area and have a pay per use model. We have this in our & nearby apartments since a few months. Yes we have a few Nexons and Tigors already in our society. They charge around 10INR/unit.

I said not AMT, but a proper automatic.

I am expecting the Tata Tiago EV to come with the same battery pack as the Tata Tigor EV with similar power, torque and range figures. It should be ideally priced below 12 lakhs ex-showroom, if so, it would be a great city car.
A sub 10 lakhs ex-showroom price would seem highly unlikely unless the car comes with a reduced feature set (base spec) and the battery pack is reduced to a smaller one similar to the Tata Xpres-T.

The beauty of electric cars is that they do not have multi speed transmission, clutch or gears. It's one drive mode, all the power available instantly.

I would tend to agree, the differential between a non EV Tigor and Tiago is 50-80 k for most variants, so 12L appears to be a better estimate for the Tiago EV unless battery size is reduced. But, 10L is a psychological barrier nevertheless, and anything close enough will shift the EV landscape.

The only other thing is that Tiago is a cute little car, while Tigor (for some) does not look as charming.

I feel the Tiago will come with the smaller battery for 2 reasons, one to keep costs lower and second to keep a differentiation between a sedan and an hatch back. Tigor electric doesnt seem to find many takers as the price difference between Nexon and Tigor is not as much
