I had booked the Nexon EV Max on the day of its launch, way back in May. I was given a waiting period of 6 months for the 3.3kW charger XZ+ variant in the intensi-teal color. I have been patiently following up with the dealer, and was scheduled to get the delivery sometime during the festive season next month.

However, the looks of Nexon never convinced me, even in its ICE avatar. Also, the on road price of 20lakh + was stretching my budget way too much. Never liked the indigoCS/zest/tigor body style enough to consider the tigor EV seriously.

The moment Tata announced that they will be launching the Tiago EV on 28th Sep, I asked the dealer to switch my booking to Tiago. I hope I'm one of the first ones in queue, there is no official timeline as of now but I'm given a verbal commitment of 2 months. I expect the ex-showroom prices to be on par, or slightly lesser than the tigor EV. Expecting the Ziptron system to be below 10 lakh is impractical, honestly. Let's see how things pan out, fingers crossed!

There isn't much difference between the ICE version of Tiago and the tigor, apart from the boot. Almost all the components are identical.

The story isn't the same for EV as the battery is the most expensive component in an EV. Tiago and tigor cannot have the same sized battery. I feel, the battery size would be around 75% the capacity of the tigor or less. (I would be happy to be wrong. Who doesn't want a bigger battery?). So, I feel tiago would be considerably reasonably priced than the tigor EV.

The Tiago is very popular among the general public, and has a good reception. This is Tata's big opportunity to capture the 10L budget audience that wants a car for regular commutes. If priced well, tiago EV could sell more than the total Nexon EV and Tigor EV numbers combined.

The electric division of Tata motors bought the Ford Sanand plant. I am hoping it becomes functional soon, to meet the EV order pile up.

Bookings open on 10th October, deliveries to begin in Jan 2023.

Booking starts Oct 10th, but delivery only from Jan '23. The introductory prices (first 10K) are out, assuming there won't be too much of a hike after that these look cheaper than the Tigor EV, by about the same margin as between Tigor EV and Nexon EV.

As I see it, the good part about this pricing is the sub-10 lac starting range, which will encourage fence-sitters to go for a reasonably priced "mass-market" electric 4-wheeler. Will appeal to folks who do not care about fancy stuff but want a basic, practical, electric car which is easy to drive in city and very economical to run. The base variant (19.2 kWh) should easily deliver 150-160 km on single charge, which is not bad for a sub-10 lac, 4-door car.

Interesting to note is that the Tata XPress-T comes with a 21.5 Kwh battery pack and a certified range of 213 Kms.

Plus a restricted top speed of 80 Kmph and costs around nearly 10 lakhs.

Another slow charging EV from Tata. Looking forward to the arguments at 50kW chargers when a slower option is available but Nexon/Tigor/Tiago users insist on using the 50 over the 24kw chargers and slow down everyone travelling on EVs

Interesting pricing, this is very good for people who are looking for an EV for City use. A true city EV with a 200Km range under 10L.
