Re: Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4matic+ Review

Great pricing! Good job by Mercedes-Benz India for bringing in CKD EQS when Tesla has shown no interest in local assembly.

The low GST rate of 5% on EVs has actually deflated the price of EQS in comparison to its ICE siblings.

Re: Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4matic+ Review

It undercuts all of it's competitors, including the brand's own flagship ICE car, the S-Class. What's that all about?
Anyways, really really well-priced in my opinion!!

Is it the "locally assembled" factor that allowed them to price this car so less?

Re: Locally-assembled Mercedes EQS 580 launched at Rs. 1.55 crore

Had an opportunity to check this car up close a couple of days ago. Of course i was not allowed to take any photos or videos

My Observations:

The HUD alone will be a big draw for this car to get sold. It is simply out of this world.

Incredibly short turning radius

Suspension felt really soft and comfortable

After raising the Air suspension, the car should clear most of the speed breakers including the large ones.

The rear motor is the main one which drives the car, the front motor engages and disengages as per need. The regeneration happens mainly from front motor.

Has 4 regen modes. "Strong" "Normal" "No" and "Intelligent"

Has 4 modes in Dynamic Select ECO COMFORT SPORT and INDIVIDUAL.

Front seats are extremely comfortable, in the rear there is a lack of under thigh support. Although the seat themselves are comfortable

Compared to the regular S Class, the interior space felt small and compact, but the rear has more than adequate leg and knee room. Simply it should not be compared with the regular S

Only the first 500 cars will have the rear axle steering as standard, after that i think it will be a paid software activated option.

Fit and Finish are way much better than the regular S Class.

Huge Boot, around 600 litres. It is a notchback like the Skoda Octavia.

All the seats have heating and cooling function, only the front seats has the massage.

Also has a camera in the instrument cluster to check the drowsiness of the driver and also to check weather the driver is looking at the passenger screen. This camera is also used logging into the car with face id.

With the current pricing this car will fly out of the showrooms

Re: Locally-assembled Mercedes EQS 580 launched at Rs. 1.55 crore

Excellent move by Mercedes by launching the locally assembled EQS. Given that these segment cars rarely venture out of the cities, this will appeal a lot to the target segment.

This should realistically offer a range of 500-600Kms on a single charge. Hopefully we should see similar range offering by MB in their other cars.

- Exactly! If sustained well, Mercedes will be able to have the first mover advantage in the true luxury EV, just liked Tata has almost sewn up the entry and mid range, despite Mahindra being the company which had the longer term EV know how with the Maini acquisition.

This should take the EV excitement in India to the next level!

Great to see at the focus on the India market from a luxury MNC, unlike the ones who are still caught up in trying to milk the volumes with products below their global line up and deservedly losing market share due to the same.

Re: Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4matic+ Review

The regular S Class is also a SKD (Semi Knocked Down) while the EQS is a CKD (Completely Knocked Down), which further increases the gap in pricing, along with the GST.

SKD attracts a 30% import duty while CKD attracts 15% import duty

Re: Locally-assembled Mercedes EQS 580 launched at Rs. 1.55 crore

The price advantage is massive once you start including state level subsidies like lower registration costs etc. The interior (dash and stuff) is clearly one step ahead of current S Class. In fact, the current S Class HUD area looks a bit unfinished. It will be interesting to see S Class facelift will follow this design.

Having said that, this car is more like a CLS (or Panamera?) and not an EV version of S Class.

It’s not just that. An ICE will have a roughly 50% GST and then additional 10-20% road tax (depending on state), while an EV has 5% GST and ~0% road tax.

Even if an ICE costs lower after import tax, there is a good chance that it will cost much higher on-road.

This is why the CBU EVs are looking decently priced compared to even made in India ICE cars.

So, Mr. Gadkari's prophecy has come true already!

https://energy.economictimes.indiati...al%20Summit%27.

Mercedes has gone one better and this is actually lower priced. That too for a car with more performance than the ICE version. Good job Merc!

Let's hope this comes true in the lower segments as well now.

I think everybody is missing the most important figure - range of 800 plus kilometres. It is a real game changer. Salute to MB for the importance they are attaching to India. If they do something similar with EQE also, they will become undisputed leaders in luxury EV space.

Re: Locally-assembled Mercedes EQS 580 launched at Rs. 1.55 crore

Potential S Class and EQS customers are going to be confused for sure. Lack of under thigh support may end up being a major deal breaker for many.

While you end up paying less tax on electric cars (not for long though), the fact that this can be your last chance to own an ICE car makes it more complicated for the enthusiast. I think non enthusiasts would prefer the EQS simply because it's futuristic.

More of an anomaly honestly! The Tiago electric is a more realistic example of why electric cars may not be cheaper than ICE cars any time soon. In fact telling people that you can get a Tiago that costs 14 lakhs on road is a sign of how electric cars will be priced in the future.
