Toyota unveiled its all-new bZ3 EV in China earlier this month. The new Toyota bZ3 is a fully-electric mid-size sedan offering and sits below the bZ4X SUV in the sub-brand's product lineup.

Post the unveiling of the bZ3 electric sedan, the Japanese carmaker also released a teaser for a new model. While there are no details of the new offering, it is said to be the third bZ-branded model from Toyota.



The teaser image showcased the rear three-quarters of the new model, with a notchback-style sloping roofline. Reports suggest that the new model could carry forward a front-end design similar to that of the recently unveiled bZ3.

The new Toyota bZ EV could also carry forward the same powertrain as the bZ3. However, Toyota is yet to fully reveal the specifications of the electric motor and battery on the bZ3 itself. What is known though, is that the powertrain has been jointly developed with China's BYD car brand and offers the bZ3 a maximum range of 600 km on a single charge.

There is no timeline regarding the unveil or launch of the new bZ model. However, reports suggest the new EV could be unveiled sometime in 2023.

Toyota bZ3:

Toyota bZ3 officially unveiled at the 2022 CIIE.

The new car is positioned as a pure electric mid-size sedan, also built on the e-TNGA platform, using BYD’s motors and batteries, with a range of more than 600km.

In terms of power, the car’s battery and motor are provided by BYD’s FinDreams Battery. The battery uses a lithium iron phosphate battery, and the motor uses a rear single e-motor. Its maximum power provides two options of 135 kilowatts and 180 kilowatts. In terms of battery life, the official said that it will exceed 600km.

A reborn C-HR EV?

The Toyota bZ Compact SUV has just made its world premiere at the opening of the 2022 Los Angeles Auto Show. Although it’s not yet a production car, the bZ Compact SUV points to a series production electric model that will be positioned below the Toyota bZ4X, Toyota’s first dedicated battery EV model.

The concept car incorporates an in-car personal assistant agent named ‘Yui.’ With the use of audio and visual lighting cues that move around the cabin, Yui responds to requests or commands from front or rear passengers.

Although Toyota didn’t say this, but it’s obvious that the bZ Compact SUV Concept is developed to be an evolution of the ageing C-HR.

When the C-HR was developed, the Toyota Corolla Cross had yet to be launched. Now that it has, there is no need for Toyota to sell two compact SUVs side-by-side.

Toyota announces the bZ sports crossover and bZ Flexspace concept cars!

The concept car is being developed as Toyota's "bZ Series," a brand exclusively for BEVs, and will be introduced to the Chinese market in 2026 as two of Toyota's 10 BEV models scheduled to be released.
The unveiled "bZ Sport Crossover Concept" is a crossover BEV that is scheduled to be produced and sold by FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. The development will be carried out jointy by BYD Toyota EV Technology co, LTD. (BTET), FAW TOYOTA AND TMEC (TOYOTA MOTOR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CENTER (CHINA) CO., LTD.), which was established as a JV between TOYOTA, TOYOTA AND BYD (BYD CO., LTD).

Developed based on the concept of "Reboot" with the desire to change your mood when riding or traveling in a car, it adopts active and iconic styling and pursues functions that can be used as a personal space for younger generation customers called Generation Z. The company says that the entire vehicle will continue to evolve even after purchase, including intelligent functions such as driver assistance and automatic parking, and that the company is developing the car so that owners can enjoy the latest state of the car with all five senses.

On the other hand, the bZ FlexSpace Concept is a family-oriented SUV-type BEV to be produced and sold by GAC Toyota (GAC Toyota Motor Co., Ltd.), and is jointly developed by Toyota, Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd. (GAC), GAC Toyota, and TMEC.

The concept is "COZY HOME" that families can use safely, comfortably, and freely. In addition to realizing an overwhelmingly large space, ease of handling, high level of safety, and a secure cruising range, it is also equipped with intelligent functions. They are developing a car that is close to families, friends, couples, etc., and that can enjoy their lives more.

Toyota bZ Compact SUV teased.

The SUV is expected to be smaller than the bZ4X and is expected to be bigger than the Corolla Cross but smaller than the RAV4, filling the market gap that is a popular segment

Rumors have it that this is a near-sales version of the bZ3 prototype with the same name, an EV sedan specifically for China.

Toyota bZ3 MY2024 launched in China with various equipment enhancements.

The dimensions are length 4,725, width 1,835, height 1,475, wheelbase 2,880 mm.

Maximum power of 181 hp and 241 hp

The car is front-mounted single-motor driven, available in 135 kW and 180 kW, with a range of 517 km and 616 km in CLTC mode, respectively.

Well Toyota better start doing something fast because it's losing whatever little market share it has left in China. Toyota might hate EVs but without a proper electric car strategy in China, the company is simply dead man walking.

China's 2023 auto sales grew 12%, but Toyota's sales in the meantime fell nearly 17%!

Why would anyone in China buy this over a BYD Seal. Toyota market share will reach 0% for sure in China.
