I think we need a seperate thread of this car. This could be a Game Changer for the performance car market.

This M5 killer has a price of just 34L in China. Even if BYD decides to bring it in as CBU, it will be a third of the cost of a similar performing car.

They will need to do a lot of brand building as image and performance go hand in hand for this segment. However, it could shake up the luxury performance car makers to be realistic with their pricings.

We under-estimate the impact of input taxes and import duties on components, as well as the very high costs of an inefficient supply chain in our country. I doubt it would ever be possible to have price parity, unless the manufacturers make some"under the skin" compromises.

This is true for all products, not just automobiles.

Re: BYD India aims to sell 15,000 electric cars in 2023

Sedans have a 11% market as of last quarter in India and they continue to drop every quarter. Also BYD doesn't have the brand name in that intended price category.
Its only in China that sedans do well 50% share.
In USA its 22% , EU sedans have 8.4% share including luxury segment(0.2%).

In most countries sedans primary buyers have been the taxi segment. So for such a low volume, BYD Seal will be a CBU import. BYD will have better luck selling that new SUV YangWang concept, albiet with toned down looks and a better sounding international name.

What if BYD setup a plant in India, it has the potential to destroy a lot of cars here. I hope they do.

BYD Seal will also be launched in Australia this year. It may be available in
European markets (Germany etc.) in 2023 (most likely) , because Han, Atto 3, and Tang were already launched there.

Here is a reviewer video

I see BHPians talking price, CBU, tax, etc., But wait can we just agree that this car looks absolutely stunning! I am just sold by the design. I only wish they come up with a good name. BYD Seal hmm....... the design and name isn't a match. But who cares, it's one beauty for sure! What's your opinion BHPians?

Re: BYD to launch Seal electric sedan in India | 0-100 kmph in ~3 seconds

BYD is looking to be the Toyota albeit in the ev segment. One observation on these global models is the GC for all the ev vehicles. Indian roads are not friendly to global models especially the heavier ev sedans with low GC. Since the batteries makes up the belly, it's more complicated. This is the Tesla that India can afford (mostly).

I keep wondering if a better name would've been BYD STEAL.

Jokes apart this looks great and shows that BYD is serious about India. They sold a million EVs last year, is the largest EV manufacturer in the world and has a market cap of over $100 billion USD.

Likely to renamed to the Atto 4 when it launches outside China. Sounds such better!

The front of the car seems like a cross between the Porsche Taycan and Ionic 6. Would be interesting to see pricing when released.

Re: BYD to launch Seal electric sedan in India | 0-100 kmph in ~3 seconds

BYD Seal test, the competitor of the Tesla Model 3.

The rather sporty look of the Seal gives it the air of mini-Taycan, mixed with Model 3.

The aerodynamic balance of this 4.80 m model is excellent, with a Cd under 0.22 among the best on the market.
Quote:
The Seal is built on the brand's e-Platform 3.0, which integrates its Blade LFP batteries into the vehicle's structure, here in a long-range version thanks to a capacity of 82 kWh. BYD announces 520 km WLTP for the two-engine version and 570 km for propulsion. Note that a variant with a smaller battery is also available in China. The on-board charger is 11 kW, while in DC fast charging the BYD sports sedan can handle a power of 150 kW. This allows it to go from 30 to 80% charge in 26 minutes. A heat pump is supplied as standard, and the car can power outdoor electrical appliances thanks to its V2L function (3 kW max).
Quote:
The car shines with its direct steering, its firm piloted damping that controls the body movements well, its real agility in the tight slaloms of our test and its accelerations that stick to the seat, the 0 to 100 km / h being shipped in 3.8 s in our twin-engine version strong of 530 hp. A sophisticated torque distribution is applied by the management system of both engines (670 Nm), which will be interesting to gauge under normal test conditions.
Quote:
The Seal welcomes its driver in a rather original universe with its neat dashboard and materials that make a good impression. Special mention to the use of artificial suede, Alcantara style, which gives a touch of sportiness. The information is displayed on a duo of floating screens (and a head-up display), the main one (15.6") of which is swivel; a particularity of the BYD range that gives the choice between a portrait or landscape format. The ergonomics remain quite classic, but you have to go into the menus to adjust the air conditioning. Only quick defrost is entitled to a physical touch near the small transmission selector lever. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are available. As at Tesla, two induction charging slots have been provided on the center console. The 3D visualization enabled by the 360° cameras is remarkable. As for the sound system, it is signed by the high-end brand Dynaudio – a guarantee of quality – and has 12 speakers.
