Tesla Cybertruck could be made nearly indestructible with new steel alloy; patent filed

According to media reports, Tesla has filed a patent for a new steel alloy which could be used on its upcoming Cybertruck.

The reports mention that the new steel alloy will envelop the exoskeleton of the Cybertruck and should be capable of outperforming all other automotive-grade alloys. Tesla, in the patents, even specified the steel alloy's harness number (between 420 HV to 500 HV), corrosion resistance (520 mV to 600 mV), ductility (60-degree bend angle at 1.8 mm thickness) and tensile strength (1100 MPa).

Tesla's Cybertruck will reportedly use a unique body structure of a chassis with an exoskeleton draped over it for durability. In the patents, Tesla even filed for a few common alloys, however, none of them met the desired specification set by Tesla. The report also indicates that the major focus of the alloy is corrosion resistance, which will allow the exterior panels of the vehicle to be used without the need for an anti-corrosion coating or paint.

While Tesla themselves haven't revealed anything, more details are expected at the company's upcoming Investor Day.
