MG Comet EV Review
(
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/electric-cars/265148-mg-comet-ev-review-45.html)
Couple of questions:
1. Removing the chrome bits (MG lettering on the bonnet, strips on the bumper etc) will damage the paint?
2. Will the Service Center be able to remove them without any damage to the paint?
3. Can a reverse camera be fitted with integration into the dashboard panel? If anyone has done it at the service center then what is the cost?
4. Is Anti Rust Treatment mandatory? I live in Mumbai.
5. Need to get Rat Repellent so help with a good choice.

Need suggestions to know on an offer on pre-owned Comet Excite FC (Date of Registration - 10-04-2024) @ Rs. 6,50,000/- The car has been driven approximately 9000 KMs. The warranty is valid till 10-04-2027.
Is it a good offer? |
Excite FC new would cost around 9 lakh on road in mumbai, if I am not wrong. That way 6.5L seems like a good price.
Hi friends, I have booked White Exclusive FC with Fast Charger for 9.75L on road in Chennai. Hope it's a good deal for Aug manufactured car. Please let me know.
1) Any inputs to improve seats under thigh support? Any way to add some padding while putting a seat cover
2) Since this is going to be primary ride for my wife who is newbie driver. Should I go for PPF on front and back bumpers?

In Mumbai an Aug manufactured Exclusive Non FC was offered to me at 8.81 Lakhs (On Road) so assume FC will be not more than 9.20 Lakhs.
Get the seat covers done from a renowned car seat maker who can help get sufficient cushioning.
PPF for such a small car isn't really required. However if money isn't a constraint, then sky is the limit

1. MG lettering and strips on bumper have white backlighting. If you must, try stickers.
2. Removing them will remove the lights too.
3. Reverse camera at service center is an accessory and comes with a separate display which is stuck on the dashboard.
4.No.
5. Lots of choices on Amazon. Try those with high ratings and good reviews.

Appreciate your response.
1. I have the Morris Garages lettering on the bonnet in chrome. It does not have back lighting. And I have not read it does anywhere, this being the first time. Let me recheck with the Service Advisor.
3. I checked with the SA and he has quoted me 5K with GST and installation for a reverse camera with a separate display. The accessory will have no barring on the car or battery warranty and itself has a year of warranty. Overpriced but worth considering it is an EV and we can be at the Brand's mercy (fingers crossed!)
4. Why anti rust treatment is not required in a humid weather like Mumbai?

1. That's part of the "essential package" the showroom offered me. That means your have paid extra money for that you wanna remove. rl:
2. They should be. It's stuck by the showroom people.
3.yes. That's an optional extra. Costs 5k plus gst I guess.
4. I am also wondering the same.
5. Amazon has some good options.

Taken delivery of Sep 24 manufactured Candy White FC with Fast Charger, drove around for 60KMS, experience has been good till now. I will write a detailed report soon.
5000+ km / 6+ months update:
The Comet has been my daily driver. It's used pretty much every day, for the weekday office commute, weekend outings, and just random relaxing long drives as well.
It's a headturner, still. People stop to look at it, check it out. Ask questions. Didn't realise how nice that'd feel, even after all this time :)
Satisfied with the range. I go upto ~150km @ 25% (aka 2km/%) typically before charging. However, when driven sedately, the range definitely increases, getting close to the claimed 230km.
The best range I've gotten so far. 202.6km from a 100% full charge. It started dropping quicker after 15%, before that it was adding up to over 230! Mostly driven without AC, although from my experience at least during winters that isn't making a difference. Haven't and will not be trying that in the summer heat here.
I haven't owned a turbo petrol myself, but from what I've read in the reviews - this feels the same. Drive it sedately, and you'll get great range. Pedal to the metal often, and you'll see a drop. Anytime the energy usage of the car is high and stays high for a while, the range starts dropping. I can still manage close to 2km/% with that, but nothing of this nature.
Since I own a base model, I really missed the Android Auto / Apple Carplay convenience. Solved that by getting
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0CGTSWPNX
The size fits in very nicely. Yet to install the reverse camera because the instructions say to wire it to the reversing light, which I'd be skeptical of doing to any car, let alone an EV. Planning to figure out some alternative, by having a manually activated switch when I get some time. Don't need the camera always anyways with a car this maneuverable.
The back seats don't see as much usage, however when they do, once you're in it's very comfortable. It's the getting in and especially out that's challenging, especially without a handle or side step.
A side step would be a funky and somewhat out of place but cool accessory I think. Maybe it's available in one of the other various markets this car is sold in?
The cargo storage space with the seats down is also great. Easy flat loading area, and tons and tons of space. Great for airport runs as long as it's only 1 person, or 2 and you're parking the car :)
Another plus is the high seating position. The tallboy stance makes it as high as many sub-4m or even 4.3m SUVS, making it a very commanding view.
It's a joy to drive in traffic, and even on open highway roads (haven't done any actual highway trips, just driving on highways close to the city).
Overall, I'd definitely recommend the comet as a second / third car in the household. (funnily enough, it's my only car, but that's intentional and temporary)

Still need to route the cable better.
I'll add that it's wireless only, which can be annoying at times due to the battery drain. Has worked smoothly otherwise, used the unit in a rental as well.

:thumbs up It's a nice fit and does not look after market. I had the same plan of buying the base comet and installing something same, but dropped the plan altogether because of charging infra issues in my apartment.
Hey fellow comet owners,
This EV has been on my mind since launch. I'm looking at using it primarily within the city. At the current price, I plan to get the base model before someone thinks the taxes should go up. So far, I've only driven the old Nexon EV and travelled in the Tiago and eC3 EVs as cabs. I'm planning to test drive this soon and had a question. With the small wheels and low body how does this handle broken roads and large speed breakers? I mean I've seen something like a differential in the back and it appears to be rather low. Does this scrap at the bottom often?

I had many such questions around the puny wheels. However, Comet has excelled in the ride quality. Ofcourse, we need to slow down and be careful on broken roads, speed breakers and rumblers. If you intend to use it within the city, then there is no better car than Comet. It has its flaws however the pros outweigh the cons.

This looks neat ! Thanks for sharing.
I’m currently thinking of getting Comet base variant for my Dad, as He is 70 and prefers a car as small in size as possible for daily commute.
Is 2024 Comet base variant equipped with creep mode and hill hold assist ? I believe the first edition was not. He’s used to the Venue 1.0L DCT which has both.
