The mysterious teaser published a few weeks ago ignited debate among enthusiasts: What will be the next electric Jeep? After the Avenger 4x4, Recon and Wagoneer S, the American company is planning a fourth all-electric model.

According to the first information, this new Jeep should be in the C segment and, for this reason, could take the place of the current Compass.

it is likely that the Compass could exceed 4.5 meters in length, with significant benefits in terms of trunk capacity and interior space. As the projection shows, the styling of the new Jeep will remain traditional, with the characteristic seven slits in the grille and the ever-present plastic protection in the wheel housings, while the cabin should receive even more technology.

Many rumors indicate the adoption of Stellantis' STLA Medium platform for the Compass, which allows electric motors with powers between 170 and 245 hp and batteries between 87 and 104 kWh. Exploiting the full potential of architecture, Stellantis claims to have a range of around 700 km.

The Jeep should be offered in single-engine and twin-engine variants, with maximum power close to 240-250 hp, while the battery capacity can remain around 87 kWh so as not to make the car too heavy, but still competitive with rivals. A range close to 600 km would allow the Compass to take on the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Volkswagen ID.4.

The STLA platform allows the use of combustion engines only, so it could be adopted in production in some countries where electrification is still far behind.

Production of the new generation will start in 2025 at the Melfi plant in Italy.

Compass will leave the current Small Wide base and be built on the modern STLA Medium platform. The architecture has just debuted in the new-generation Peugeot 3008 and will be adopted by a number of mid-size models from the Stellantis group. It represents significant technical and dynamic advances, and can support traditional, hybrid and electric powertrains.

At this point, it is already certain that the future Compass will be sold in all-EV variant.

The Italian factory in Melfi, responsible for producing the model for the whole of Europe, is already being prepared to receive the new platform and will assemble the new model from 2025. From the same plant (and from the same base) will also come other EV vehicles, such as the successor to the Opel Insignia, unprecedented DS crossover and a Lancia equivalent called Aurelia.

The 2025 Compass will continue with global commercial reach, which indicates that it will also be offered with traditional diesel and gasoline engines in some regions. It should be remembered that electrification is still expensive and many markets are still lagging behind in the transition process. In practice, it will be the same strategy adopted by the Avenger, sold both as electric and equipped with 1.2 turbo gasoline engine.

This platform allows for front- and four-wheel drive vehicles to be made on it and can have battery packs up to 98kWh – Stellantis claims a Standard pack is rated at more than 500km while a Performance pack has a WLTP range of over 700km.

The STLA Medium uses a 400-Volt electric architecture that is said to consume less than 14kWh per 100km, and can be charged from 20-80 percent in 27 minutes, a rate of 2.4kWh per minute. In addition, electric motors that deliver between 218hp and 388hp can be utilised by this platform.

Along with the electric powertrain, the next-gen Jeep Compass is also expected to get turbo-petrol and diesel engine options, though which units will specifically arrive is yet to be confirmed.

The exact size is still a mystery, but STLA Medium itself gives clues. Modular in nature, the architecture accommodates vehicles with lengths that can vary between 4.3 and 4.9 meters, as well as a wheelbase of 2.7 to 2.9 meters. That is, both vehicles in the C and D segments. For comparison, the current Compass measures 4.40 meters in length and 2.63 meters in wheelbase.

Other details anticipated by the platform are technical. The base structure allows for 400-volt electrical architecture and supports electric motors with power outputs between 220 hp and 390 hp, indicating that the EV version of the next Compass will follow this path. In addition, it has a charging capacity of 20% to 80% in 27 minutes and accommodates batteries of up to 98 kWh, delivering a range of 500 km to 700 km.
