Suspect is ADAS. Anything going wrong with ADAS and veering the car off the road is very dangerous.

There is absolutely no reason to blame ADAS until and unless the investigation concludes that. The article itself states that the reason is unclear at the moment. In addition, what is mentioned is Lane Keep Assist which is present on practically every new vehicle nowadays. All is does it move the vehicle a bit but within its lane. It does startle you as it is sudden and violent but is unlikely to cause a crash as it simply centers you in your lane. This happens on my MG quite often.

Lane keep assist is critical part of ADAS. I did say its been suspected as mentioned in the article.

As a car enthusiast, I shall welcome VinFast with open arms. Knowing they will face cut throat competition from the Japs, Koreans, Europeans and our own Indian OEMs, I am hoping they bring the best they have to offer.

As a new car company (seven years old), with no brand pull (say, a Tesla) and no history (say, German engineering), they might find it difficult to pull in Indian customers. Lets hope they have learnt from others and will go the value route and not the cheap route. Though, this was not the case with them in the US.

If you ask me, I will only buy a VinFast if they are offering me tremendous value. I wont buy it if its at par with a Tata, let alone the Japs or Europeans.

Like the Japanese and Koreans who have mastered the art of low maintenance & high performance cars we dont know where this Vietnamese manufacturer belong in this field. If they are the Tata and Mahindra's of Vietnam, then tough times ahead as they will have to face the brutal competition from already established homegrown, Japenese and Korean brands.

Vinfast changes its strategy, to launch locally assembled cars. Expected to launch in the festive season of 2025.

Quote:

VinFast, the EV arm of Vietnam's largest conglomerate Vingroup, plans to launch its first locally assembled car during the 2025 festive season.
Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) maker VinFast is likely to enter the Indian market with locally assembled models following a shift from its initial strategy of selling only imported products.
Quote:

this new approach follows the accelerated opening of VinFast's factory in Tamil Nadu, which is expected to go on stream by March 2025, three months ahead of schedule.
The vehicles, priced at Rs 25-30 lakh, will target the premium affordable segment of India's growing EV market. The models are expected to offer a range of 300-500 kilometers.
Entering the Indian market through the completely knocked down (CKD) route, VinFast aims to avoid high import duties, making its products competitively priced.
The savings on duties will be used for brand building and marketing.

VinFast is expected to disclose its plans for India at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo, scheduled from January 17 to 22, 2025.

A tie up with JSW on cards?

many more contract manufacturing opportunities coming up for Indian companies.

Hoping the consumer get more choices like the VF3

Although it is a welcome move, I was reading somewhere that they don't make good cars. By this I mean Cars which have acceleration issues, indicators not working, drive not good etc.

you may check this link about VF8, hopefully they have come a long way from this now.

VinFast in talks with Adani group (not looking good in today's scenario?), Megha Engg for JV.

Give yourself some break A*anis. We need some diversification in ownership of new technology sectors. Becoming monopolistic and will not be good for customers nor competitors.

What do you get by doing a JV with VinFast? Vinfast themselves have not yet figured out how to make a good, reliable EV.

If the Adanis want to become a serious, succesful EV maker in India, it will be best for them to do a JV with a chinese OEM with good EV tech in affordable segment like Geely BYD, Xpeng etc. and set up large capacity that can also export EVs and components from India.

I sat in a few including their buses. I was in a property owned by the Vinfast owner - so every vehicle inside the premises (except privately owned by other guests) was Vinfast. Were the cars great? No. Were they terrible? No. The buses were actually very ergonomically designed and comfortable. The cars were serviceable - no wow factor as such. Can't comment on the safety aspect but the fit and finish inside was not that great. The cars looked better from the outside than the inside.

Best of luck to Adani trying to raise funds for any venture now!

Vinfast to make India debut at Bharat Mobility Expo. Expected to announce showroom and sales plan

Quote:

Vinfast, the Vietnamese EV manufacturer, will make its official Indian debut at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo. It had in February announced the construction of new facility outside Chennai and even had the groundbreaking ceremony and will now display its wares at the upcoming motor show.

The automaker is expected to display a complete range of vehicles starting from the VF e34 to their flagship Vf7 SUV. It is also expected to announce its showroom and sales plans with operations expected to begin towards the latter half of calendar year 2025. Like BYD, its complete lineup is electric and will be the second all-electric manufacturer to set up shop in India.

VinFast claims a WLTP-rated range of 450km for the VF 7 Eco and 431km for the Plus. Other differences between the two trims includes the alloy wheels – Eco gets 19-inchers while Plus gets 20- and 21-inch options – and the size of the infotainment touchscreen – 12.9-inch for the Eco and 15-inch for the Plus. On the other hand, a Level 2 ADAS suite is standard on both.

If my memory serves right, Zac resined in April from Vinfast and he joined Polestar.
