Next-generation Suzuki Wagon R coming in 2024, EV variant added

Suzuki is all set to launch the Wagon R by 2024 with a full model change for the first time in 7 years.

The current model is the sixth generation and debuted in 6. It was updated with some specification changes in October this year, but considering the model life of the mini car, it is about time to change the model to the 7th generation.

Since it is always in the top 10 in sales of mini cars and is still in the top three in Suzuki's lineup, it should focus on model changes, and it is believed that the centerpiece of the next model will be an EV.

The next generation of the Wagon R is expected not only to have environmental performance, but also to evolve in advanced safety features and the Suzuki Connect connected service. The infotainment system will also be emphasized by the large touch-type display.

As for the lineup of the next Wagon R, it is natural to promote a mild hybrid while focusing on the internal combustion engine. And a new EV will be added. We haven't been able to get a glimpse of the specs such as battery capacity and cruising range yet, but we may be able to get a hint from the concept car that will be exhibited at the Japan Mobility Show.

Though no further news on this, but looks like this too will get the Z series engine like the Swift. While the Wagon-R currently has both the 3-cylinder 1.0 and the 4 cylinder 1.2 engines, the new version will likely come with only the 1.0 3-cylinder, with Petrol & CNG as fuel options

Isn't this for the JDM WagonR? Our WagonR still has a couple of years for the next generation to debut. And hope it gets a new EV version too.

Erm... Didn't get you, guess it is a typo. You mean the WagonR will get only the new Z12 1.2l 3 cylinder engine? Or continue to get only the current 1.0l 3 cylinder?

It will all depend on the positioning of the rumoured model that Maruti is bringing to take on the Punch/Exter gang.

The eWX concept will be the WagonR EV from Suzuki. Will debut in Europe first before making its way here.
In the current WagonR design (or maybe a facelift) there will not be an EV variant.

Wont an update in international markets cascade to our markets too ? Not just the WagonR, but all models using the 1.0 3-cyl would likely get affected.

And there has been some talk of an EV - including spotting test mules running around, but that can take time - MSIL hasnt been strong on EV's.

Note - what I posted is not news, but just my speculation in similar to what we see in "discussions" on other upcoming models. I dont like to speculate, but the thought came up and I posted it

To add: Now zigwheels says even the DZire to come with that 3-pot ! As it is MSIL has these "commuter" spec cars, on top of this, this 3-cyl affair.

Now thinking if I should get some 1.2L AMT for the wife before they are taken off the shelf completely.

I guess the reason why Maruti is launching new cars with that 3 cylinder engine is because next year they'll be pairing a Series Hybrid Tech to the same 1.2 3 cylinder engine. Fronx will be the 1st one, can't find any other reason why they ditch that very smooth, refined and efficient 1.2 K Series engine.
