Mahindra XUV.e9 electric SUV spied in near-production form

You may have seen spy images of the Mahindra XUV.e9 before, but this time, the prototype was seen sporting its pre-production bodywork.

The XUV.e9 is a pure-electric version of the XUV700 with a stylish coupe design. The electric SUV features a blanked-out front grille with a full-width LED light bar and vertically stacked headlamps. At the rear, it has a unique LED tail lamp setup connected by an LED light bar that follows the vehicle's contours. The latest test mule is also equipped with a new set of aero-optimized alloy wheels.

Inside, the XUV.e9 will get a futuristic-looking dashboard with three 12.3-inch displays and a 2-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel. The SUV is also expected to get features like a head-up display with augmented navigation, Level 2 ADAS and a vehicle-to-load function.

Mahindra might offer the XUV.e9 with an 80 kWh battery pack, powering a dual-motor setup. Peak output could be in the range of 227 BHP to 345 BHP. The battery could offer up to 450 km of range.

Re: Mahindra XUV.e9 electric SUV spied in near-production form

Coupe is the new trend in the Indian Auto space. Unlike Nexon / Punch this will be the first Premium EV from India. Alloys look super cool and the rear end is massive, this can be a XUV500 moment for Mahindra after 1.5 decade

Re: Mahindra XUV.e9 electric SUV spied in near-production form

Looks like a Tesla Model X from some angles, eager to see the production version. Also, the power figures seems to be very impressive, with that range.

Is it just me or does anybody see a misalignment in the rear wheels, it is way off

Detailed pics sent by our friendly neighbourhood AutoSpy to me. Caught testing on the Pune - Satara highway.

The XUV7OO EV will have a distinctively different looking front (headlamps + DRLs), as is evident from the pics above.

Looks like the headlamp assembly will be shared between the XUV.e9 and the XUV 700 EV.

Somehow this reminds me of the Bentley Bentayga, its turning out to be a quirky but an excellent design, the big wheels, wraparound tail lights and so on.. The overall bigger size as compared to Tata Currv and Citroen Basalt is also granting it a grand feel. But, whats that rear bumper design, it looks quite weird! Hopefully its just a camouflage.

Re: Mahindra XUV.e9 electric SUV spied in near-production form

Had an opportunity to visit, Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai, saw this model in person. The proportions were spot on.

Also saw a small SUV coupe (electric).

Both the cars design were terrific.

They told that 3 EVs will be introduced this year.

Re: Mahindra XUV.e9 electric SUV spied in near-production form

Well it might very well be a very handsome car, but for now, I am having to force myself to like the rear overhang with the upswept bumper and the tail light.

Coupe is fine, but that rear is somehow not adding to the beauty at all. Now looks are subjective, and it could very well be me only, but not convinced for now.

And I have same thoughts for the Tata Curve also. This high on heel coupe is a design language that needs more perfection I suppose.

Let's wait and watch and the actual product might just wow ! Fingers crossed.

Re: Mahindra XUV.e9 electric SUV spied in near-production form

I think the rear reminds somewhat old verito sedan.

Am I the only one who feels this?

Cheers

Re: Mahindra XUV.e9 electric SUV spied in near-production form

The exteriors look good. But hope Mahindra re-does the horrendous interiors. The Contessa like steering wheel, which most of us agree looks terrible, to slapping a three-zone screen display on the existing XUV700 interiors, without much other change.

Don't get me wrong, I quite like XUV700's interiors, except for some plastic here or there. But considering this EV will be a more premium offering, they surely need to design it as per the market placement.

I see much more similarity to the NIO ES8 on the front fascia. The side profile is also somewhat similar to Nio, though Iím not exactly putting a copycat allegation here, almost all crossovers are cookie cutter design nowadays.

The triangular headlamp area is particularly similar.

Even the bulges above the rear wheel is identical to XUV700. Question is, who copied whom? Looks more than a mere coincidence.

There is no 'copying' in design these days. Its called taking 'inspiration'

Re: Mahindra XUV.e9 electric SUV spied in near-production form

Spotted these two cars on Avinashi - Coimbatore road. Camouflaged XUV(possibly EV) and Scorpio N (had silencer) accompanied these two cars. They were riding in a single line without breaking order and at a slower than traffic pace. Usually, all the Mahindra test vehicles I have seen were driven fast, including one camouflaged XUV 300 and Thar 5 door on the same trip, I couldnít take picture due to erratic traffic near Chennai. Maybe these cars are driven slowly to conserve battery range.
