Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV India launch on September 16

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that the EQS electric SUV will be launched in India on September 16.

The EQS will be Mercedes’ sixth pure electric model for the Indian market after the EQS Maybach 680, which was launched earlier this month. The other models include the EQA, EQB, EQE SUV and EQS sedan.

The standard EQS SUV looks more toned down compared to the Maybach version. It has a more conventional front fascia in gloss black, different alloy wheels and slim LED taillights connected by an LED light bar. Inside, the EQS does get the MBUX Hyperscreen and 3-rows of seats.

In the international market, the EQS is available in three variants: single-motor 450+, dual-motor 450 4Matic and 580 4Matic. Mercedes-Benz is likely to offer the top-spec 580 4Matic trim in India.

The EQS gets blanked out front grille flanked by LED headlamps and an LED light bar. The rear features slim LED taillights connected by an LED light bar. The regular EQS looks less flashy compared to the Maybach version launched earlier.

Inside, the EQS comes equipped with Mercedes’ Hyperscreen, which comprises a massive 17.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and an additional 12.3-inch screen on the passenger side. The electric SUV also gets features like 5-zone automatic climate control, soft-close doors, rear seat entertainment screens, 9 airbags and Level 2 ADAS.

In India, Mercedes is offering the 580 4Matic version of the EQS. It is available with a 7-seat configuration as standard. The optional AMG Line package adds sportier bumpers and 21-inch alloy wheels.

Powering the EQS 580 4Matic is a 122 kWh battery offering an ARAI-certified range of 809 km on a single charge. It drives a pair of electric motors producing 537 BHP and 858 Nm, enabling the EV to sprint from 0-100 km/h in 4.7 seconds.

Re: Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV India launch on September 16

For whatever reasons, MB India continues to focus on profits rather than launching something that can bring them numbers in EV space. iX is around similar priced and looks handsome as well the quality of interiors is very high. Although, I have not seen this car so it mayn't be fair to compare, but having seen enough of MB fake leathers (including what they give on S Class), they should have undercut the BMW by 10-15% especially given the CKD built of the car.

Rear reclining seats on the EQS will be a good point and also they may get spill over of customers who cannot afford Maybach variant. iX is also old now, so who knows. BMW will surely start higher discounts on iX and even if I am a customer in this segment, I will probably wait for few months and see what numbers they are doing and probably wait for discounts. There is a huge mental block for anyone spending so much on an EV. i7 was sort of an exception due to the amazing and super luxurious interiors but it has lost it's shine as well with discounts available freely.
