Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Got to check the status yesterday on MG site, they have updated the Estimated delivery date.

The dealer says we are clueless when the dispatches will be done.

The Charger installation executive visited my home Yesterday to check the feasibility and any short comings (if any). He mentioned that there are soo many calls to check the feasibility after coming of this Car.

Lets see when we get the intimation from the dealer about allocations.

Acko is costing 36k for Zero Depo and most of the bells and whistle addons (including PA of 50L which is cheap for 799)
Immediately after closing their website, their customer care called and upon my interaction with them, they said that flood/water damage to the battery IS COVERED as can also be seen on their website they cover CALAMITIES (which does show while checking insurance but states war, riot, etc. as example and not specifically flood).

I asked for a copy of policy terms but they said that is only available/generated when policy is purchased and they cannot provide it otherwise (since they also don't have access to it).

We probably need to find some Nexon EV or diff EV owner with acko policy to read their policy terms Or someone bite the bullet and get Acko and if it doesn't cover water/flood damage, cancel the policy next day (no charges due to Look Back Period)

36k vs 60k (least MG quoted) is still a huge difference, can get ample of accessories in it

--UPDATE--
I called Acko again to get another person and he also confirmed their Zero Dep plan covers the EV car's battery.
They even generated a quotation for me to be able to get Policy Wordings and all the relevant docs and told me I can even get this confirmation in writing (sent a mail to hello@acko.com) to confirm the same.

I have attached the policy wordings I got, can someone check them for the legal language ? I will update once I get a written confirmation from Acko

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Hi All,

A bit late to the party, just got a text from my dealer that they have received the list of allotees from the 1st lot and I'm one of the lucky one's. It's a black beauty once again and the Essence variant (somehow the pan roof was hard to pass).

IMHO BAAS is just a gimmick and I was inclined to take a loan on the overall vehicle in order to claim the tax benefits, however it seems this is applicable only for loans taken up to 31-Mar-2023 therefore it will be a one shot deal now.

Regarding the extras, I haven't given a thought to the accessories. The insurance quote was a whopping 85K, I have submitted a counter of 35K. Charger survey was completed last week and they have quoted me approx. 25K for the additional cable, etc.

As per my dealer, the vehicles have started leaving from Halol and should start arriving in the yard in about 2-3 days. Give or take another 3-4 days for RTO and delivery should be possible.
Fingers crossed!

The dealer told me yesterday that I have been allotted in the first lot as well. Black and Essence variant. He did not have an idea about the delivery date. The MG finance guy called today and said we can start processing the loan. I am guessing there might be some sort of update tomorrow since they are now looking to close the finances. Am yet to hear from them regarding a discount on the insurance. I sent the Acko quote to them and he said he was going to discuss with the manager and let me know. Fingers crossed. Am still hoping for a 12th or 13th delivery (Dusshera/lil ones bday)

Congratulations for the black beauty. I think the black color goes best with the minimalistic and unconventional design of the Windsor.

Dussehra looks tough, but who knows they may just surprise us.
Else its poor planning by MG, to have missed such an auspicious occasion.

I need to finalize the accessories and narrow down on the must-have's, shall do so once the insurance et all is closed.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

I just casually checked on policy bazaar and United India Insurance is offering good premium even with zero NCB. I specifically added battery cover to the quotation.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

I had pre-booked a vehicle and recently received a quotation from the dealer that included an "Essential Kit" and a "Value Added Service Pack," totaling about 40k. When I tried to request an invoice without these extras, the dealer was hesitant and did their best to persuade me to take both so the allocation could happen sooner. However, since I can wait for the next set of vehicles, I attempted to convince them to provide an invoice without the optional packs.

I also received an insurance quote of about 43k from Policy Bazar and tried to negotiate, but they were quite reluctant and kept pushing me toward their in-house policy. I eventually agreed to take it from them, but now they're again insisting on the optional packs. They keep mentioning that many customers are willing to pay for these extras, and the dealership prefers such clients over those who negotiate.

I'm feeling quite frustrated, especially since they’ve closed the pre-reserve booking and any new bookings won't include the unlimited battery warranty and free charging benefits. My options seem very limited, and it feels like "the ball is in their court" right now.

I just wanted to share this and see if anyone else has found themselves in a similar situation, as it might bring me some peace of mind!

"Unlimited Battery Warranty" was actually for BaaS customers, but its now for everyone and the First Year Free charging is also for all the bookings done till December 2024

Pre Reserving had no benefits other than simply trying to get car delivery/allocation faster than others, you know first come first serve, but that also seems useless now considering no one has been allocated a car/stock unit, and neither for any of us the estimated delivery date has updated.

From my talks today with dealership, they will most probably delay the delivery start to 20th now as they are not getting any updates or instructions or anything from MG.

Also, you are free to bring your own insurance and say no to accessories, the dealership I booked with didn't even offer me any accessories or packs, they knew I wanted to choose the accessories myself.
They were persistent for insurance but that also I said very clear that either reduce that 90k to something I can digest or I will choose my own and they were happy to price match (I have not quoted them Acko quotation yet).

One thing you need to know and remember is unlike other car dealerships, MG dealerships are under one parent company and not private franchisees, so most dealerships don't play ball with customers.

If the Sales guy is trying to play hookie with you, ask to see his senior or just tell him you will cancel the booking with them, complain to MG/Grievance and instead do the booking with a different dealership.

You have nothing to lose, if you loan/payment/financial situation is ready, as soon as the cars arrive and they start delivering, you can push to get early even with a rebooking.

Thats another thing dealership confirmed me today, regardless of booking queue, they will start delivering to whoever has their payment situation sorted first, like start allocating the car, contact customer if they can take delivery next day (clear payment), if no, ask next one and so on and so forth.

Basically weed out people doing bookings to make up their mind later or think whether to buy or not or start taking loan when car allocated, etc.

Thank you for your detailed explanation; it has greatly boosted my confidence. I plan to call a few other dealerships to gather more information. The booking I made is in my hometown, and yesterday I spoke with a salesperson at one of the Bangalore dealerships. He confirmed that pre-reserve bookings are closed and that any new bookings will take a minimum of three months for delivery. The unlimited warranty and free charging are only available for those who receive their cars by the end of December. I will reach out to a couple of dealerships in my hometown to check before finalizing anything.

There is some serious arm-twisting being done by the dealerships, which MG needs to quickly act upon and stem it in the bud.

Looks like the sudden surge and demand for the Windsor has gone to their head however it's only matter of time that the likes of TATA & BYD, come out with better plans and pricing. It will be good for MG if they understand this sooner than later, else just as you got 15K bookings, it will be followed by an equal number of cancellations rather quickly.

I suggest we do not succumb to these cheap tactics, which hopefully does not have the endorsement of MG, and hold making payments or signing on the dotted like, till the terms are fair and mutually agreeable.

After initially being receptive, even my dealer is refusing to match the insurance quote now. They are OK with outside insurance, however I reminded the dealer that this is the standard industry practice and not a special favor. They are also being rigid with the CC MDR charges being passed on to the customer and insisting on 1.5%, whereas the norm is 1%.

I'm on the verge of escalating this & sending a stinker to Mr. Chaba and if these guys don't come around, I will cancel my booking. Suggest you do the same, if this sort of thing continues.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Dealers like to prey on customers’ FOMO psychology. If we stand our ground and make it clear that we are ready to walk away, they will relent. I don’t think Windsor will have long waiting lists. Many of my acquaintances have booked the car but not one is ready to purchase yet. All this hoopla will settle down in a month or two. It’s buyer’s market currently. Be a tough negotiator.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

I spoke with 3 dealerships today and wanted to share the details:

Dealership 1 (Kerala): This is where I already have my booking. There’s no room for negotiation on insurance. I must purchase the essential pack for at least 20k, and the mandatory "value added service pack" for 12.5k, which covers vehicle polishing, cannot be opted out.

Dealership 2 (Kerala): I called them this morning and learned that new bookings will take a minimum of 2-3 months for delivery. This could mean missing out on the unlimited warranty and free charging, which are only available for vehicles delivered by the end of December. They currently have an insurance option from HDFC costing about 69k for the top model, but some customers have received quotes of 45k from New India. While the essential pack is optional here, the VAS, which includes vehicle charging setup and polishing, is mandatory.

Dealership 3 (Bangalore): I spoke with a salesperson at a nearby showroom, and the waiting time is also 2-3 months. Unlike the others, he’s willing to negotiate on insurance (potential price matching) and I can opt out of both the VAS and essential pack.

The car is primarily for my dad, and I chose the XUV400 earlier due to its lower complaint rates compared to TATA EVs. I’m open to buying essential items but not those the dealership insists on for their profit. I’ve decided to wait, as suggested by others, but wanted to update this thread to highlight the varying options across MG dealerships. Checking multiple showrooms could be beneficial for anyone looking to negotiate.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Going little off-topic. I want to know 2-3 things before booking the car. I hope the experts could guide me on these queries of mine.

1. Is it advisable to buy Windsor in the initial days of its launch Or should I wait for the proper first hand reviews of the end user and then go ahead for booking.

2. MG has always came up with a new VFM varient with time. They came up with a ZS EV excite pro varient and comet came with FC varient. Both these varients came without much news in the market and they were better then the already present varients.
Is there a possibility that windsor will come with a new VFM varient in the near future with the same 38 kwh battery.

3. Can Windsor be taken on commercial number plate..?

That's about 39k including the GST. If we look deeper into the insurance quotes, it has a part of around 20k+GST for the 3 year third party cover. That's same for all insurers. So, the difference between 39k and 70k is actually more than what it seems. I hope I am interpreting the quotes right.

The dealer in Kolkata mentioned 70k for the insurance in the price list. However, the sales person did not put any condition such as getting the insurance from them or buying any pack. They have some pack which consists of the mats, mud flaps and a car cover for about 12k. When I said I don't want the car cover, he said I can take the accessories as per my choice.

I pre-booked the exclusive variant with them on the 2nd of October and got two SMSes from MG, one at 8:44 am, another at 10:13 am on the 3rd (when the booking opened), with the booking ID starting with ES. This should put me in the first lot, but he has not confirmed that yet. I asked about the delivery date yesterday and he said he still didn't have any confirmation on the allotment. I am hoping they won't play any tricks. I am inclined towards taking the insurance from ACKO.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Just returned from the dealer. Still no update on the date of delivery. Regarding accessories, he said I can choose which ones I want and don't have to pick a pack. They are still non committal about insurance from outside being accepted. He keeps saying we don't have the wording for the policy from MG(through ICICI) yet and once he gets it he will pass it on to me. I am going to be adamant about they lowering the price or getting I am going to get the insurance from outside. I was hoping for a 12th or 13th delivery. Since that isn't going to happen, I am more than happy to bargain and wait it.

Absolute mismanagement from MG. They shouldn't have announced 12th as when they will start deliveries! If they did they should stick to it. Dusshera is auspicious for a lot of us and they are playing around with emotions.
