Re: MG Windsor EV Review

I am suddenly finding out that MG dealership experience isn't so smooth at all. I made booking on 3rd and till date I have not got a payment receipt from the dealer or any idea about my number in the queue. My sales advisor was on leave the entire week and the team leader isn't very helpful either. He didn't come out to meet when I went to the dealership even after waiting for 30 mins+ and when I contact him on whatsapp I get very generic replies so I have stopped following up.

Going by the dealership experience I am in two minds about going ahead with the car as I would have to rely on the same dealership for service.

A lot of models are getting launched in 2025 and with the dealership experience I am starting to reconsider going for a 38kw car.

Any existing MG owner from Pune that gets service done at wakad reading this thread? If yes how is the service experience?

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

I booked MG Windsor on 4th October. The SA says I should expect delivery in the second half of December. He said I will get the "unlimited" battery warranty though not sure what "unlimited" means.

Overall I liked the car. I am buying it for my dad and for city use 99% of the time so a range of 250km should be enough. The car definitely feels luxurious and is quite spacious.

There were 3 things I did not like:

1) I felt there was a lot of road/tyre noise coming into the cabin even on a smooth straight road. I have noticed this observation coming in a few other reviews as well.

2) I feel the suspension is a bit stiff and esp in the backseat I felt your body ends up rattling a fair bit on uneven roads

3) The pickup/acceleration was sluggish but that could be also because it was maybe on Eco mode where this is expected.

Will do another test drive before deciding finally.

Recently having test driven the Windsor, one feature that struck me was, the even if one is in READY mode, drive selector in D, the car shall not move, till the driver is buckled up - very useful feature from a safety point of view.

Additionally, READY mode stays ON only if the driver door is closed. In case the driver opens his / her door, the READY mode turns OFF. Again a very good safety feature.

The battery's ability to hold charge reduces with age and charging cycles.
So, a vehicle that can run 250kms on one charge will reduce to say, 200 Kms after an year or two, at which point it becomes inconvenient for long runs.

So, at what point of degradation will MG agree to replace the batteries?
On discussion with the RM, was informed, 1% drop in SOC is within the permissible limit - how far is this true??

Waiting period of the MG Windsor touches to 3 months!

MG has planned a production capacity of 5K units for the Windsor.

Was told the same, considering I did pre-reservation, as was expecting delivery for Karva Chauth, told them clearly will cancel booking and any future relationship if promise not fullfilled.

Dealership manager has told me they will be receiving first batch of cars tonight, and tomorrow or day after he will confirm me.
Said most probably will try to get the car considering I reserved early and loan is approved.

Currently their plan is to follow FICO (first in first out basis reservation and booking) and then further prioritize buyers with readily available funds (full payment) or loan sanctioned i.e. you get a call for delivery and can take it tomorrow

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Checked out the Windsor at the showroom last week and got a short 5km test drive. Unlike Tier 1 city showrooms, our Coimbatore dealership was not crowded. While I liked the car very much, I still wanted to hold on for a few more weeks (even months) until the initial hype settles down and real world feedback pours in.

Could not find panel gaps or fit & finish issues, even after 15 minutes of hunting for it.

Turn lights looks very cool in an otherwise boring rear end:

Reverse lights are too close to the center, making them less visible to other road users:

The fancy looking grill appears to be a dummy. Real speaker is located down below:

Driver's display is puny compared to the humongous touch screen next to it. However, its positioned closer to the steering wheel which works to some extent. TD car was just 64km old.

The touch screen is the center of attraction, quite literally:

Rear thigh support and seat height are good. I would have loved if they were a tiny bit longer/taller.

Price list in Coimbatore. Zero road tax for EVs in Tamil Nadu makes it cheaper than the top variants of sub 4m cars.

More questions to be answered:
  1. Crash test/safety rating. Can we trust MG based on its prior models?
  2. Cost of spare wheel.
  3. How do the other colors look (especially beige)?
  4. Is the sound quality that bad for a branded 9 speaker system?
  5. Owners manual & service schedule.
  6. Real world usable range from actual owners (100% to 20%).
  7. Road noise was evident during my short TD. Need a longer drive to assess its impact on buying decision.
  8. Charging recommendations (is daily plug-in vs longer gap between cycles).
  9. How good is the support from MG? Do they have control over dealerships unlike Mahindra who does not seem to care much like my 3XO fiasco (2024 Mahindra XUV 3XO Review)?

Great review! How come the Essential Kit is only 10K and what all does it include?
My dealership has quoted me 30K for Essential Kit and it includes the following:

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

I finally TD the car yday and really like it! It's a superb product with great interiors. The space on offer is really unmatched.

I'm in the market for an additional car for my dad so we also test drove the Hyundai Alcazar right after this and I hAve to say that the interior space and comfort in Windsor almost matches that and def way higher than most cars in its segment and higher!

An observation though - I also noticed that the tyre road noise filters through the cabin. This is strange as I tested this in the residential bylanes of JP nagar, Blr where we were at <50 kmph. I wonder if the dealer had overinflated the tyres.
The suspension and ride over broken surfaces and potholes was decent. I was concerned from reading earlier reviews but found the ride reasonable.

Gonna do almost 0 accessories and external insurance. Offered to pay for the car in full immediately and the dealer mentioned that he would try to do their best to give the car at the earliest.

It seems that MG corporate team hasn't fully prepared for this launch or they were unprepared for the amount of interest this model generated

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Did a test drive and car was deaccelerating very fast. Asked service advisor and he had no clue. Was driving EV for the first time so thought it’s normal but then changed setting of reneration mode to low and the car became free. Changed settings of drive mode to Normal and wallah the car started flying. On sports mode it was really like a rocket. Overall came out happy with power.
Seats did not feel comfortable and too much glass area was making it too bright inside the cabin.

Road noise was there but may be change of tyres which currently are Ceat secure would make some difference.

Test drive car had 98% battery and was showing range of 311 Kms. In 3kms battery dropped 1% on normal mode.

Most of regularly required option were in thumbnails on bottom of screen so would get used to it quickly.

Fit and finish was up to the mark at all places.

Two things which I didn’t like:
1. All Outside Door handles remain open up to a speed of 20kmph and get auto closed. It was an eyesore as during test drive when car was leaving showroom all handles were open which will happen when we leave home or office in the evening. May be there is option to close it but sales person was not aware of it.

2. Concerned on safety as bonnet is too small and any front impact will break the all plastic large bumper and get impact very close.

All in all was happy. Came out booking White Essence.

Two of my biggest concerns are

1. Easy changing of Regen setting (Paddle shifters like in Kona and facelift nexon). With experience, one realises that regen zero gives amazing smoothness. The paddle shifters allow for engaging the regenerative braking when we anticipate a slow down/stop.

2. The comfort of the seats for long drives

Also they should have released with a bigger battery pack. A car this size deserves (a variant with) a larger battery.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Hi, I always replace the stock tyre right after the purchase to either Michelin or Yokohama or Bridgestone, if stock tyres are of inferior quality. May I request BHPians to share their thoughts on which brand of tyres buyers should replace immediately after buying an EV (Windsor EV in this specific case). Hope replacing the tyres will not impact warranty by MG or insurance company deny a claim in future.

Beside, should the user replace the stock speakers from outside, plug & play type (no wire cut). Hope doing this will not impact on warranty by MG.

I am asking since EV is not so easy to understand by FNG and since manufacturers know this, they can deny warranty or claim in case tyre or stock speakers are replaced by users.

Tyres should not be an issue as OE comes with regular tyres and replacing them would not lead to any change in specifications.

Replacing speakers, I would not advise as EV cars have many circuit which should not be played with until first batch of cars have proven themselves without any trouble. Quality of infinity speakers in top end variant is good enough for an average enthusiast. Woofer is placed in the boot area, may be opening the removing mat a bit would increase the thump in the car

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Have deliveries begun for the Windsor anywhere in India? Or did MG botch up completely with the deliveries from 12th announcement during launch?

I have the same query. I replaced the stock tyres of my Polo GT with Yokohama S-drive after taking delivery. What are the good tyres for Windsor EV?

I was looking at options for 215/55 R18 tyres. Continental UC6 is 13k/piece, Yokohama BlueEarth or Bridgestone Turanza 6i costs 14k/piece and Micheline Primacy 4 costs 16k/piece. I am not sure whether the tyre dealers will provide any reasonable buyback for this size. If they do not, then I will live with the stock tyres for now. The Windsor EV will be used mostly in the city and it is not a "sports car" (perceptions are relative, but in 2015, the Polo GT was one for me). I don't see myself going over 80-100km/h often with this.
