Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Incredible review and wonderful use of words (disasterclass stuck), especially considering you are only 15 years old.
Wish you get to legal driving age quickly and have tons of good moments behind the wheels.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Have been actively reading Team bhp articles since quite some time and this is my first post.

I had booked Windsor EV Top Model (white) and was informed yesterday that car has been alloted to me. I booked within the first hour when bookings were opened. Should get delivery by early next week.

I am completely confused about insurance though. Not getting any clarity from dealer on what is coved and what is not. More concerned about flood damage to battery which was discussed in some of the earlier posts.

As per my SA, dealership is okay if I take insurance from outside as well. Any thoughts on which insurance is currently the best?

Also attaching documents received from MG for reference. It does not mention anything related to EV Battery though.Product Differentiator_MG Secure MISP.pdf

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

I'm buying United India Insurance as that sees to be the only one that covers Battery via an Add on which covers the full battery. The only exclusion is something related to overcharging but flood/water/shortcircuit etc is covered as per PolicyBazaar.

Unfortunately that United india isnt allowing me to transfer my NCB bonus (which is @ 50%!) of my old car

As per the terms available on Policybazaar, it seems that United covers only 50% of claims relating to battery, unlike ICICI which covers 100%. The HDFC Ergo policy for which someone had shared the policy wordings earlier, seems to have a good battery cover.

Here's what I received from my dealership. This one mentions battery coverage and 50% depreciation if opting for Bajaj.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Specific to Bangalore deliveries -

Is it possible that some of these new Windsors could be flood impacted and then could be pawned off to us, without us realising?

How do we identify if such a flood ravaged Windsor has been sold to us?
I am worried.

Bull bars are technically illegal in India however this law is seldom implemented and in case of a collision, it depends on the situation whether it will help or have an adverse impact.

Having said that, there is no other way to keep the Bikes and Autos from causing rear scratches and chip offs, so that's a chance I'm willing to take.

Aside, I bit the bullet and following is the final list of accessories:
1. Essential Kit - 30K
2. Bull bar - 5K
3. Cover - 2K
4. Visor - 3.5K
5. Shades - 4.5K
6. Dashcam

The charger was installed yesterday, so the stage is set for the finale :-)

I agree with you.

Unfortunately the insurance companies are very eager to push for total loss in EVs especially if the motor or battery are involved. Repair / replacement costs for these two items are prohibitive.

Manufacturers are very happy to give 8 to 10 years warranty, but even if there is a scratch on the covers of the battery or motor it becomes the insurance company's headache.

I'd recommend you get as high of an idv as possible for EVs, because in a country like ours scratches do happen in the time frame of 8-10 years.

Many congratulations! Which insurance did you take by the way? Does it have a specific battery cover?

Thank you very much!

I went with the company insurance, MG secure elite pro from Reliance and I think it should cover everything :-)

As someone who is interested in getting the dashcam provided by MG, if you could spare time when possible after delivery and clear a few doubts regarding it with some photos, it would be a huge help.

1. Which model dashcam did you opt for?
2. How are the cables wired? I.e. through 12v port under armrest or hardwired directly to small 12v battery?
3. Do they work while parked and the engine off?
4. Are rear cameras included?

Thank you!

Any word on the spare wheel accessory price? Is it a space saver or full size?

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

So I booked on MG website and have no firm date of delivery or any plan/interest from my dealer but here ackodrive is advertising delivery by Last week of November.

I had booked my seltos on launch and got it very close to ackodrive communicated timeline while my variant had long waiting.

In email I have received late Jan booking which is idealy ok with me but lifetime battery warranty only till Dec end deliveries and a probable Jan price hike are not things any early adopter would like to skip and bear.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Have had a good corporate relationship with MG Patparganj since 2 years, last year even bought a Comet EV on whim, which I do like a lot.
Have had my booking for Essence Green with MG Patparganj since 30th Sept, had initially visited them and talked things out on 25th itself and they assured delivery by 11th.
Based on that, I sold my current main car (Skoda Octavia 22) and foreclosed its loan.
The delivery date moved to 12th and then was told deliveries won't start till 20th.

Anyways, felt no choice so decided to wait and stay followed up with GM Sales, Mr. Ankur and one of the TL Sales, Vishal. On multiple calls I was assured once any green units are alloted dealership, I will be the first to get one since I no longer had any primary car and had even gotten a loan sanction/approval from HDFC, with whom I have a ongoing relationship on higher level.
Nonetheless, last week was told again 2 green units arriving and will be alloted one.
But nothing happened, till date no update on allotment and everytime I call different people, I get different replies, but nothing concessive.

Even today morning the TL Vishal said MG people are doing allotments today and in evening I will update you, then didn't pick call. Messaged Sales GM and he said no allotments done in last 4 days.

In between, started hearing from a couple other buyers that they already got their allotment and delivery calls from MG Patparganj, funnily Sales GM kept denying any such thing happened or if any Green car was alloted at all.

Today, the ex-TL who was my main point of contact since 2 years and during booking, told me that because I took the loan myself and insurance also HDFC is providing, thats probably why MG Patparganj is ghosting my allotment and delivery, as they didn't get any commission.

What baffled me upon hearing that was, how pathetic the whole allotment process and dealership is then, specially when I had told them I plan to buy a lot of accessories instead from them and last year referred to them a lot of potential comet buyers.
Even while taking the loan, I had informed them that the Zonal Loan Manager already handles my existing loan and is foreclosing and he has told me to let him handle the new loan, which was informed to the HDFC executive in MG Patparganj as well, I mean the guy who did my loan is his boss's boss (maybe one more level up)....

The final nail in the coffin was, when MG Safdarjung and MG Noida (different dealerships) both informed me they have some variants and color options available for next week delivery even if I book now, meanwhile MG Patparganj had been telling me they have no cars whatsoever.
AND, MG Lucknow (500km~ away) called back too after one inquiry stating they can make a Black Essence available for delivery next week itself if I want....

I was already in a spiteful taste and tbh, if I had any other options for a decent or similar car, I would have just pulled the plug on MG, but my only other option could be a Nexon which I hate due to space and its plastics/fine detail quality.

Did another booking today with MG Lucknow for Black, lets see if they deliver next week, which even if they do, I will have to drive it back 500KMs.
Which after planning on plugshare, brought me to a new realization. Till now I was considering 240KM to be a safe range for highways/roadtrips, but had not factored in that for Fast Chargers you would only charge till 80% and cannot account for 0% range.
So actual FC to FC range on roadtrips is probably only 200KM~

PS: The reason for not trying via other dealerships in Delhi, Haryana or Rajasthan even if near is because UP has no road tax on EVs and a probable 1L subsidy.

All in all, really sour lemons.
