Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Thank you all for the support and suggestions.
I don’t have a video of the issue as I was not thinking it will be a dealbreaker. But once I confirmed other cars don’t have the noise, I should have taken a video. Anyway I’m planning to go to service Center tomorrow and if possible, record the issue. I have told them plainly that I won’t accept the car if the problem persists.

Your car is under warranty, so I don’t think there should be any issues. PDI’s are generally done at the time of delivery - in your case you found it before just by luck. In case you see that the dealer is not supporting, you may tell them that you will escalate to rajeev.chaba@mgmotor.co.in.

After reading your issue I also remember getting disturbed by a humming noise which disappeared after switching off AC. But since yesterday I haven’t been able to reproduce the same in my car.
Coming to AC, I am surprised by the AC performance after the reviews. It has been quite good. Only problem has been the direct sunlight through the windows that hit hard.

7.4 kW Charger was installed 2 days later and works fine. But surprisingly no option on the MG iSmart app to limit the percentage up to which we can charge. Request other owners to let me know if there is a way around or I am missing something.

Attachment 2682009

Download Spin EV App, this is the app for the charger supplied along with the car. It connects to your charger over Bluetooth. You will get multiple options to play with your charger including when to charge, how much to charge and how many units of energy consumed in a charge etc. You also don’t need RFID to start and stop charging, the same can be controlled through the app.

Have fun!

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

I see many users not having full clarity regarding best charging practices. I think best way is to follow users manual provided by MG.

User Manual link: https://s7ap1.scene7.com/is/content/...c-pdf-0375.pdf

• It is recommended to charge the vehicle to 100% every time, whenever vehicle is being charged.

• After a maximum of 4 continuous fast charging cycles/ opportunity charging cycles (Opportunity Charging - where it was below 100% SoC) it is mandatory to use slow/AC Charging and charge the vehicle to 100% SoC.

• Slow/AC charging till 100% SoC is must, at least once a 15 Days or after every 4 fast /opportunity charging cycles whichever is earlier, for SoC calibration & cell balancing.

• Avoid charging vehicle under heavy rain / thunderstorms

• Avoid driving vehicle below 10% SOC.

Hope this helps.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Spotted the first Windsor on Madras roads, and it was the Clay Beige. I had to look closely to confirm. The Clay Beige is not really beige (thinking in lines of 1st gen i10), its more an off white colour. White is a lot more brighter to look at (the showroom display car was white)

However, the Windsor manual suggests charging the battery to 100% every time the vehicle is charged.

I want to keep the cycle window between 40 to 80% and charge up to 100% once in two weeks as mandated in the manual for SoC calibration and cell balancing.
Yes whatever you have said is true and car OEMs are aware of them. MG specifically disables the charging limit function on LFP cars whereas allows it for NMC cars for a reason.

Both for State of Health and State of Charge, charging to 100% is very important. ZS EV owners who preferred charging to only 80% have seen their displayed range fall significantly. After multiple 10% to 100% sessions their range estimates are slowly recovering.

Would highly recommend to simply charge the car when SoC is low all they way to 100% and not complicate things.

It's the most convenient as well as what the manufacturer recommends.

Interesting to know that someone else also had similar issues. So you just ignored the noise? Or it was not audible enough? Coming from a Honda city as my previous car which was very silent at low speeds, I felt this fan humming at level 1 to be irritating. Noise was not increasing on going up the fan speeds, rather it stayed same. Good to know your issue went away..hopefully mine too

It was noticeable. But my instinct was to turn off the AC and check. It went. I will update if I notice again. Hope the dealer resolves your issue.

Now there was another shocker in store.

Completed my first free service yesterday.

Dropped the car at the dealership at 10am. Got the dreaded call at 2pm telling there is a bubble formation in front right tyre and it will be replaced. Collected the car at 4.30 pm with tyre replaced under warranty.

The bubble had formed on the inner side itseems. I hope there won’t be any issues in future.

This bubble issue has plagued me since I bought the Ford ecosport (17” wheels) in 2018. In 2020 two of the tyres were replaced by the dealership at 25% cost and I had to endure repeated punctures till 2022 when I finally replaced all tyres and upgraded the tyre width and aspect ratio.

One good thing here was the dealership picked it up during the service and replaced it under warranty. With Ford, I noticed it just a few days after service and had to follow up a lot with Cauvery Ford and Ford India to get a resolution.

The process now was smooth with MG Dyuthi, Mysore. So far so good from the time of delivery. No unnecessary push for accessories or insurance. Just praying the tyre issue doesn’t crop up again with these 18” wheels.

Thankfully the issue got resolved

It was some paper/plastic tag fluttering in the AC vent system as per the service guys. I checked repeatedly and noise is gone as of now. So gave them the green signal to go ahead with registration process.

Your tyre mishap story is curious..following you wherever you go

My car gets CEAT tyres. Do you guys recommend a tyre change to Conti or Yoko ? There is a reputed tyre shop just next to the MG showroom.

It would be easy if I swap before delivery itself.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

I booked the vehicle on the 4th of October in Pune. Teal Green, Top end variant. Still no sign of delivery date from the showroom. Is anyone in the same boat as me? Any idea how to expedite the process?

Pre-booked and paid booking amount for Turquoise Green Essence variant in September at Navi Mumbai MG Dealership. Sales rep assured delivery in November post Diwali.

Got an email from MG after bookings opened which stated estimated delivery in 5th week of January 2025. Dealership rep assured it's a generic email and delivery will done much earlier.

Fast forward to November, I am not getting a clear date despite getting finance pre-approved. I wrote to MG and the Dealership Sales head for answers.

I've been told that the green and beige colours are in extremely short supply and white/black are more readily available. (Are MG are playing the Mahindra game of artificial scarcity?)

Now I am comfortable to wait for my colour option to become available, however the current prices and the MG app free charging offer is only applicable on deliveries till 31st December 2024.

Through no fault of their own, customers will lose out this benefit as well as possibly paying an increased amount.

Exactly the same scenario. MG date is 5th week of Jan. Green is in shortage and dealership has no clue but one difference is that my dealer had assured me that they deliver before December as they have to give free charging and all.

These look like a bummer. Aren't these Chinese guys supposed to be the No.1 in the world? I haven't seen any such restrictions on Tesla or am I missing something?

Wow!! I thought the big advantage of going with MG over Tata was the ability to freely charge with DC Fast chargers any number of time but i guess that is neutralized now.
