Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Our Windsor (Essence variant in Turquoise Green) arrived on Christmas day - sooner than what we had anticipated. This meant we had a choice of cars for our planned road trip to the Western Ghats - my time tested confidante Skoda Yeti, or the new electric kid in town. Driving the Windsor over four days and 850+ kms on expressways, ghat roads and everything in between, here are my impressions :

MG Windsor EV Review-pxl_20241229_0223133432-1-1.jpg

1. With some essential route planning, charging infrastructure was not a problem on this route - we charged the car at Zeon Mysore, Rebolt in Kukke and Zeon again in Shantigrama - all en route and during our breakfast/lunch breaks.

2. We figured coasting is better than regen on highway runs - so Normal mode with Normal regen combo worked great for effortless driving.

3. The Windsor affords spirited driving, and the instant acceleration is quite addictive. Its silent performance however makes the driver involvement more "Forza" like - very different from the joy of driving my Skoda Yeti. (I guess old habits die hard!)

While our primary use case for the EV is local runs with home charging, the Windsor seems like a pretty good option for long distances as well with some planning.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Been very lazy on this forum due to massive end of the year work loads and other personal priorities.

I got my Black Windsor exclusive in Bangalore on 26th Oct, Technically the first lot of Windsors.

Ever since, I have been on two long trips. One in November - Bangalore Vizianagaram return trip. (approx 2300kms round) and second one over the weekend Bangalore to Hyderabad and back

For those travelling, each side took around 12 hours. (600kms)

I am a careful driver and don't exceed 90-100 kmph for most of the journey. Also Cruise worked very well.

Bangalore to Hyd:

First stop just after Anantapur (JIO BP charging station 60KW - https://maps.app.goo.gl/KLwcVHBecujUkJYq6 ) Free for Windsor, and no dine in facilities nearby.

Next stop is near Puluru toll gate on the other side (right) (Athithi 44 drive in. They have a Statiq charger - free for Windsor)

On the left side of toll gate we have Lepakshi food mall, which is nice. They are commissioning a charging station there, maybe will be ready in a month.

The coffee on the entire stretch is atrociously priced.

Hyd to Bangalore same route, same charging stations.

You can have a decent meal (veg) at Paakashala on Ananthpur bypass, or at Ulavacharu (Non veg).

However, be aware that return to Bangalore is an uphill drive and therefore your range will be reduced. At JioBp, my charge was for 320kms.

However at actual distance of around 230Kms, my balance charge at home was around 18 kms.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Need Help - Dealer issues.

I prebooked the MG Windsor from the Kochi showroom on the day of the pre-booking start (Oct 3). I waited until December 10 hoping that delivery would happen. The dealership cited many reasons and I believed them all.

By Dec 10, I learned that many deliveries are already happening from the dealership and there was no way I would be that behind on the schedule.

The sales advisor at that point committed that they are prioritising people who take financing and insurance form them and I had chosen an alternate option for financing.

At this point, I decided to cancel my booking. I sent out an email asking to cancel.

They never acknowledged the email, but the sales advisor told me on whone that they are processing the refund.

It's been 20 days and no refund has happened.

Can anyone help me with the escalation POCs for MG Motors?

As mentioned in this thread you can send email to following:

Write all about the arm twisting incidents or wordings used by the dealership.

Attach your booking ID and receipt to it and send it to the following:

Other than these, also CC the mail to your dealership's Sales Head and CRM, you should have gotten their mail ids in the welcome email MG/Dealership sends after booking, I think it starts with "MG Hostess"
Do not forget to CC the Dealership Business Head (his email is also provided in same welcome mail)

Go with T. Green.

It’s a unique Color, looks great in daylight and a real eye catcher. I just got one delivered a couple of days back after waiting for it for more than 2 months due to demand. I was offered white or black more than a month ago but I waited it out for green. It was worth it.

We went on a short trip as well right after delivery.

Will post a detailed experience later.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

My Windsor delivery was supposed to happen yesterday, but it didn't, and I don't think it will happen today also. The dealership says there is some issue with registration and insurance since i claimed NCB from my previous vehicle to this, and they are working on it.

My concern is, will I still get free public charging if the delivery gets delayed to January 1st?

In my understating the offer is only valid for deliveries made by December 31st. The dealer says I will still get it, but I am not sure I can trust them since they have made many false promises about the delivery since November.

I've read other forum posts here of Windsor owners complaining about the poor suspension tuning and feeling car-sick in the Windsor, which did not happen in their other vehicles.

Not to take away from what others have experienced, but what is your opinion on the ride quality over long distances?

I am not sure about Windsor but in general when using EVs with one pedal driving or high regen levels, braking can be a bit harsh till you get used to the feel of the A-pedal.
I prefer to drive with very mild or zero regen for its butter smooth drive. But one needs to be ultra defensive for this to be safe.

I think the ride quality is OK and the suspension behaves well at tyre pressure of 32 psi. Strong regenerative braking can cause motion sickness - particularly more when you are transitioning from ICE to EV. Setting the regen to "normal" or "light" surely helps the drive quality and eliminates the EV induced car sickness that many experience. When you are driving on highways, I think coasting is better and feels more natural vis a vis instant energy recovery that progressively stalls the car.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

I had received my Windsor EV Essence variant today.
It's not registered yet with the RTO

But I am facing issue with ehub app.
I need to start this ehub app to receive benefit of free charging( Last date today).
I believe ehub app should have displayed my credentials such as engine number chasis number on its own. But it's not. It's asking me add vehicle.
I added Windsor without adding registration number( As it's not available yet). It's added but still doesn't show any credentials. It's showing only those details which are added by me. Such as my name and any vehicle added by me without any details.

When I brought Toyota hyryder. App showed everything on the day of delivery.

Dealer is not himself sure of anything. But since it's last day of free charging offer, registration on app is important.

Just wanted to know from those who received deliveries before. Did there ehub app showed anything on first day of delivery.

Windsor hits a wall on its own after parking.
This is strange and shocking.
Guys, please be careful.

Wonder what happened here?

Seems like he left the car on "drive" and exited the vehicle. Which didn't turn it off and the car crept forward. It can be difficult to tell if it's turned on or not when moving from an ICE to an EV.

In Windsor, the electronic parking brake engages the moment we take off the driver seat belt. And the P mode is engaged the moment we open the door. Also u cannot shift from P mode to D mode with driver door open and without pressing the brake. So there must have been a glitch here which has not engaged the electronic parking brake or shifted to P mode.

Just yesterday i was wondering how confident i can we can be on electronics to engage parking brake. But since this is something that is becoming universally common i thought the tech should be very reliable.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

One possibility is that the driver might have put a dummy clip in the seat belt holder, and parking/ auto hold mode was not manually engaged before he got down. As soon as the door was closed the vehicle might have gone back in to Drive mode and started to crawl.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

With regen on heavy and clip inside the seat belt holder, it is a very real possibility.
