The much-anticipated MG Windsor EV with a 50 kWh battery pack is generating quite the buzz! Parth Jindal of JSW MG Motor India hinted at the Bharat Mobility Expo that this advanced version of the Windsor could be launched this year. Apart from that, any information?

So, is it that the wait time for launch of 50 kWh battery pack may get extended? I feel it all depends on the pricing of eVitara. If the price is competitively placed, MG would feel the heat and would expedite the launch of 50 kWh.

Come from 2019 creta, which has a little softer suspension. Ride quality is stiff but ok , nvh is ok too & tiding over craters capability is good due to bigger wheels.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Windsor EV spare tyre installation is a cumbersome process. Can't they provide simple solution like fitting subwoofer in the spare tyre?

Found a video regarding the same.

This is just for the first time installation, after this it is just going to be removal of 2 butterfly screws and changing the tyre.

My bigger takeaway is that, this takes up a lot of boot space. The whole big space around the sub-woofer is wasted here, and this increases the boot floor height and reduces the luggage capacity by a huge margin.

I hope the lower variants (base and mid) don't have such a process, and it is just straight forward put the tyre in the boot base and cover it with the boot floor liner and be done with it.

Yes the process is one time. But why make the woofer enclosure round if you can't fit it in spare wheel like Skoda/VW? Or put it in one of the sides like Hyundai/Kia/Mahindra. Wastage of space in my opinion.

An update on this. This issue still persists on iOS, where after entering ID and Password, it asks for otp, but when you click on send otp it never sends an one and gives an error saying 'network issue'. Android doesn't have this issue.

Now, what I found out was that it was asking me for an otp because I had Two-factor or Multifactor Authentication enabled. So I logged into my Android phone and turned off Two Factor Authentication. Then I logged into my iOS device by just entering the ID and Password and it worked. The Two-factor authentication is buggy in iOS as it will never send an otp. Better to turn it off for the time being.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Hello Everyone!

Just took delivery of MG Hector Plus Diesel Sharp Pro & MG Windsor Essence.

A few queries for the Windsor popped in my head:
- Where would I find the outside ambient air temperature display like in all other cars? I was not able to see that anywhere in the cluster/infotainment. The Hector has it in the HVAC page at the bottom.
- The charging flap remains unlocked even when the car is locked. It is a push-to-open type flap which I reckon should get locked with the central locking to repel miscreants.

Hoping someone can help me with these.
Thanks!

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Got my 1st service done on my Windsor EV. 2916 kms on the odo with no issues to report.

Service was a simple process - top up of coolant, brake fluid and windshield washer fluid + a vaccum and wash. No FOTA since it was already up to date.

The friendly staff let me inspect the underside of the car. You will notice that there is room in the rear to accommodate the larger battery pack in the 50KWh variant.

Thanks!
I was specifically told by the dealer that the flap has been designed to not lock even if the car is locked. I dont know what is the logic behind it though.
Congrats on your new purchases. Wishing you many more happy miles.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering how the app is seemlessly working on my phone. But why was the car not syncing with the app after immobilization was activated? Good to know that issue was solved on doing the infotainment reset.

This is a bummer. I wanted to get a spare wheel. I was under impression that tyre will sit on the floor and woofer will fit inside it. This is taking up too much of space. What if we just keep the tyre without buying the kit? unsafe in the event of a collision? Has anyone bought a spare tyre yet? If yes, pls share ur experience.

Buying spare wheel does not make sense. I have no idea why MG dealers push hard for this 20k acccessory. I checked one installation at the time of service and it takes considerable space in the boot.

Not having this spare wheel is actually better than having one. First you compromise on boot space. Lets say you have this spare wheel and you end up having flat tyre when you are travelling with luggage, where are you going to store punctured full size wheel? It has so much dirt and it will be loosely fitted let it be in cabin or the boot making all black interior dirty.

I have bought one Rs.300 worth of puncture kit from amazon, which is like what tyre shops use, but not intending to use it.
  • If we find less air in some tyre, better to fill it with compressor and take it to nearest puncture shop.
  • If there is screw or air is not holding, use this amazon puncture kit to pull screw and put that wire like strap inside.
  • If tyre is cut or there is major puncture, call some nearby punture shops, there is good chance those will come.
  • If nothing works, there is always RSA's, which are actually good. Either MG or Insurance one.

Spare wheel is a much of a hassle, specially when this car does not come with full size wheel well.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

I took a test ride, it feels less bumpier than Punch. Not sure how bumpier it is at the rear seat as I was driving it the whole time. It's great handling on the broken roads and speed bumps.

It weights at 1930, heavier than ZS EV (as per specification ZS is 1695), not sure what they did, small battery with more weight, may be old tech in battery or wrong specification. Although, MG has not shared this number officially. Not sure, why all EV makers are hiding the curb weight and battery weight. This has a major impact on the range and tells the tech used.

Big disadvantage with Windsor is 38 KWH battery and 45 KW charging speed. Interestingly, bigger battery pack is a must before buying it. Morover this do not show the average or real time power consumption (as per the sales guy), this is the basic thing expected from an EV. This is just a software thing, they should add it.

This will be a really great deal when launched with at least 50 KWH battery pack. Till then wait and watch.....

Hi, you are right about spare wheel. However, owner can buy space saver spare wheel and keep the spare wheel at home and use it only in case of outstation travel. Sometime it is difficult to find a puncture repair shop, specially during odd hours and space saver spare wheel will be very helpful in such circumstances.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Hi y'all, hope everyone's having a wonderful new years.

I did a short trip from Bangalore to Manipal (Udupi). Here are a few things I noticed.
  • The whole trip I charged on Zeon 60kw chargers. Every time it was free, barring one hiccup. This happened while coming back late in the night (sigh!) when the charger just stopped after 1% charge. Unfortunately, we came back after half hour to find out what had happened. Kept saying "Requires minimum balance", when I had about 500 bucks remaining in the wallet. Besides, this was supposed to be free. Quick call to Zeon CS, and a reboot signal to that charger fixed the issue.
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay is a hot mess. From Google Maps screen it randomly kicked me out to MG home screen. Can't listen to a song on Apple Music without constant interruptions.
  • And from Google Maps screen, the radio kicked in out of the blue, at high volume. Scared the hell out of us. This happened only once.
  • If turning on a short radius with turn indicator on, the 360 camera comes on and doesn't go away with the turn indicator. I have to manually click the close button on the screen. This happens every time. Apparently, this is a design choice. Weird!
  • The rear suspension is stiff, as complained by the passengers at the back. Their actual term was: "Why is this so bumpy"
  • Aircon worked well to an extent. It got really hot in Udupi, and I used the MG app to turn on AC about 10 minutes prior to getting back in the car. This helped, but MAN the large windows let in some serious UV Rays.
  • There was also a weird issue with Aircon, where at low temp, the system crapped out. It just wouldn't let me change the temp. This also happened only once. Here are a few steps I tried:
    • Tried changing the temp using physical buttons and the virtual ones on the screen. Didn't work.
    • Did system reset on the infotainment system. Didn't work.
    • Turned off the car from the button underneath the steering wheel, and then turned the car back on. Didn't work.
    • The only thing that worked was was getting out out of the car, locking it, and coming back in after a few minutes, and turning the car on. This flushed out whatever bug that was.
PS. At my 1st service, I explained everything to the engineers, and they have reinstalled the software on the infotainment. This has resolved all of those at least for now. Hopefully, they don't come back. Also, I have completely given up on wireless CarPlay. Just using wired now. Had to get an adapter to switch up MG dashcam to USB-C, to free up USB-A port for wired CarPlay. So all good there.

Hit me up if you have any Qs..

Ask what the dealer's insurance covers and ask your broker to get those add-ons/riders added. Battery protect cover (for EV battery pack) is what you need; check with your agent if they can give you quote and use that to negotiate.
