I think that the 2126mm width mentioned there includes the ORV mirror width. The car width according to the Team BHP review is 1850 mm.

To put things in perspective, a 2126 mm wide car would be the widest car on the Indian roads!

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Local MG folks are not even picking up the calls to schedule the test drive- this is after pre-registering interest on their website. Apparently the walk-ins are the priority.... That begs the question "what's the point of pre-registering anyways.

This has all the signs of a "perceived sellers' market" by MG. I would say - please stay away for 3 months or so. The situation will be a lot more stable then. Test drive at leisure and then book

There seems to be an error in the lifetime road tax calculation here. The life tax on EV's in Telangana is 14% (10 - 20L) currently on Ex Showroom price. The life tax should read 2,16,972 for the Essence variant. Also the 1,10,00 for insurance seems to be on the steeper side. Other states quotes show it more in the range of 70-75k!

A very good point, I just double checked on the MG website and you are correct.

Windsor EV
Width (mm) (Inc. Mirrors) - 2126
Width (mm) (Exc. Mirrors) - 1850

The earlier data of all three cars (Windsor, Hycross and Scropio-N) was quoted from the Cardekho website.

Hmm..but still being as wide as an Innova Hycross, is also commendable.

Anybody who is interested in knowing the terms and conditions of the 3-60 buyback program, the agreement that will be signed is attached. For Windsor, the maximum kms driven will be 45,000 kms. The details are as received from MG SA.

Buyers will need to go through the buyback agreement with a fine tooth comb. If EVs keep improving as expected, real resale value will be less than 60%. So, MG dealers may try to escape from the buyback.

1. Clause 1.1 (q) d. excludes from eligibility - Any case where there is an exception of road tax or partial road tax paid for short period.
- Agreement should clearly say the cars where road tax is fully or partially waived on EVs are still eligible.

2. Clause 2.1 (o) Premium for comprehensive insurance should be paid regularly by the Enrolled Customer and insurance policy must be valid and effective at the time of handover of physical possession of the Vehicle to Dealer along with other forms and documents mentioned herein
- Usually, the insurance gets activated a few days before delivery, which means it will also end a few days before 3years of delivery date. Hope that does not catch out Windsor owners, because technically you’ll end up buying the 4th year’s insurance to avail the buyback.

3. Clause 3.1 defines Guaranteed Buyback Value (“GBV”) as 60% of ex-showroom price. This means the battery price is included in the buyback offer, since even BaaS cars do have the same ex-showroom price. This would mean a base version purchased on BaaS get 8.1L back (and not 6L of 10L). Of course, you have to pay back the battery loan and any car loan first. So net take home will be much less.

4. Clause 5.3. MG India hereby disclaims any and all claims arising out of or in relation to the Vehicle, including without limitation, claims in relation to delivery of Vehicle, design defects, manufacturing defects, marketing defects, after sales services, AMC and/or functioning of the Vehicle.
- Why would a car manufacturer disclaim responsibility for design defects, manufacturing defects, marketing defects, after sales services, AMC and/or functioning of the Vehicle? Am I reading this wrongly?

5. Some places mention mileage over 45,000km will be deducted at 3/- per km. At other place it says mileage over 35,000 will be deducted. Probably a typo, but needs to be corrected.

6. Annexure A. Clause a.Also only manufacturer’s provided/approved chargers should be used for charging the vehicle.
- You cannot get a 3rd party charger installed. e.g. 7.4KW chargers compliant to Indian standards are available in open market around 25,000. Car makers charge closer to 50,000. So, people do get such chargers installed and they work well. In this case, it voids the buyback agreement

There could be several other such things. e.g. if you get a dent and minor paint work done in a friendly neighbourhood garage.

The buyback agreement is between the car owner and the dealer. Does this mean MG India has a separate agreement with dealers to compensate for any losses from the buyback program?

and what if a dealer closes before the end of 3 years?

Umm... no, thats exclusive of GST.
GST will be on top as per MG Dealership and 18%

What will be funnier is how thats gonna work though, cause if it was treated strictly as a loan, there should not have been any GST levied as it would be EMI.
But seems they are going to somehow structure it as a "Service", which will levy the GST. But the good news for corporate/company purchases is, the whole amount can be written off as a expense instead of as a asset/depreciation (in case of car) and you can also claim input credit on GST paid.

I sometimes wonder if that is the actual reason behind the whole "business car" tagline MG has been attaching to Windsor.

I did some rough calculations for the car as a business purchase and my god this could work as such a clever move.

To give some perspective, you get 40% depreciation claim on EVs in 1st year itself, well 50% of the 40% if you purchase in November, since you would have used the car for upto 6 months till year ending March 2025.
Still, thats a huge amount you are able to write off in books.
For 10L base car value, you will get 2L depreciation this year itself, plus all your loan interest is counted as expense and written off too.

Now the BaaS, since its structured like a subscription, will be totally counted as a expense, and you can avail the input credit on GST paid too.
That means, 100% written off expense from day 1.

I think this is THE GO TO car (well other BaaS MGs too) for anyone who can buy it under their business

The TD cars will arrive by 2-3rd October, they only have 1 car in all their showroom just as a display model (to check ins and outs).
Actual TDs and details are expected to arrive by 2nd October, with deliveries starting 11th October.

Even the bookings they are taking now are just to get into the queue, whether you want BaaS or upfront payment or whatever, you can decide at the end moment when your turn comes in the queue (for delivery).

Personally I am more interested in the mid-variant, as I hate that sun-shade-roof and I know it will be a oven in delhi summers.
But driving and parking a Octavia in Delhi, I seriously want that 360 degree camera from top variant and feeling inclined to go for top variant, there are some more bells and whistles too but yeah.

Good on MG to keep it simple with just 3 variants and that too with 1L diff only, but I seriously wish the companies start doing top variants with optional sun-roof/shade.

I forgot to check, but can anyone confirm if the rear-view mirror has a USB port for dashcam, and in top only or all variants ?

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

I had booked the Windsor EV on 22nd Sept and was told that the test drives will start by 25th Sept, so I called the SA in the morning if the test drives had started and indeed they had, he asked me to come after 2 pm. Left a bit early from work and reached the dealership by around 5 pm. There were a lot of people for test drives, hence the test drive was going to be short. The door handles open once you un lock the car, was told it can be programmed for unlocking once you approach the car. The car is quite wide, I currently drive a XUV 300 which is the widest in segment, this felt a bit more and one needs to re calibrate their judgement in traffic and be more careful. No turning the key or pressing button to "switch on", just press the break pedal and move the shifter to "D" press the accelerator (EPB was engaged), the car moves smoothly as with any EV. Started with Eco +, as I wanted to move up the modes to experience the change in character of the motor and heavy regen. Eco + is quite sluggish, my comparison was my car and we have an EC3 in our home which my brother uses as his daily drive. You have to press the accelerator quite hard to make progress, regen in heavy mode is quite strong and I shifted to normal regen immediately, which made things quite predictable, moved to Eco and things get quite better. Normal mode is something which we can use daily, acceleration is quite good, Normal mode with normal regen is very smooth and you can drive all day in this combo IMO. Sport mode is really good for quick acceleration, felt a bit too quick for city drive. Ride felt a bit stiff at low/city speeds but saw the TPMS and the pressures were quite high between 37-40PSI, at recommended tyre pressures it should be better, but the ride does improve as speed picks up. ORVM adjustment is a bit tricky from the touch screen but you rarely change that so its alright. Finding a driving position is easy with seat adjustments and steering adjusting for reach and rake. Steering felt light for city driving, drive was too short for any other conclusions, AC felt strong but Pune has been experiencing heavy rains so not the right environment to judge. The ventilated seats at level 3 are noisy, music system was off, level 1 and 2 you dont hear any noise but 3 is quite loud. Comfort is the highlight, the seats are really comfortable and do the job. There were a lot of people enquiring on BAAS, the Bajaj guy in the showroom was getting bombarded with a lot of queries, so much so that he was having his supervisor replying to some of the customers on call. The way in which I am looking at it is that you have to pay for the battery separately, although my running is around 1000 kms, going with Vidyut (there reps were still not there at the showroom to explain how their plan is going to work) might extend your re payment timeline due to low running and increase the interest component. The Bajaj rep told me you can pay for 5 years as per 3.5 km (he said this is with GST) which comes to 3.15 lac and the balance principle you can pay in one go, which works out to be 35k, battery cost is calculated at 3.5 lac. I am not sure if this is really the case, they are going to get all the details by Sunday. I am planning for another visit with a longer test drive and getting on the details even the fine print for BAAS and evaluate out right purchase, before taking any final decision.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Had taken a few videos in the MG showroom as well, which I have included in the latest video of my Youtube channel. I have shared some more details on BAAS and pricing on the details shared by the MG showroom guys. I am very new to Youtube, so most of the videos are seen by my friends, family or Car lovers only. But I have tried my best to share all the details I could via this video on the MG Windsor EV. Hope it is informative and helpful to everyone who watches.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Got a chance to see the Windsor in the showroom. We are planning to upgrade from our Brezza 2018 diesel AMT to a new car. Just for the itch of upgrading and nothing else.

I had initially planned for the Nexon ev which I found to be the next choice ideally. I didn't like the Windsor ev in the videos but today family planned to go and see the windsor as mom said look for a bigger vehicle than a brezza so it should look like a upgrade. we visited mg Chandigarh today and we saw the car in person in turquoise blue. The seats, gizmos and everything was a love at first sight. It gave the same feeling of our luxury family mover the Carnival. Everyone had clear in their mind the Nexon is cancelled. The seats are superb, the gizmos are good and the steering on idle is quiet light.

The dealer mentioned the drives will start by first week of October and deliveries post Dusshera.

Holding on the booking till then and will decide after a drive.

I second this. Even I am thinking the same. Tata and MG are playing a game of chess giving checks back to back.
Knowing that MG is launching windsor, Tata reduced prices of their EVs first.
In counter, MG launched BAAS and kept the price as competitive as possible. Tata's waited untill the price of the car was announced and then they just came up with 45 kWh battery. ( The best thing about this launch was nothing was in the news) They were silently doing the manufacturing and least info was out in the market. Now when the price and range of Nexon.45 is already out and festivals are coming up.
MG might come with a bigger battery varient too.abd that will be actually check mate.

First heartiest congratulations on your new car.
On Insurance, I would say its pretty high. You can get a quote outside and can ask Showroom to match the quote.

For comparison, I paid 57k for insurance for same coverage after matching the quote for my XUV700 for On Road price of about 30L. Where initially they quoted a fat sum of 1.40L for Insurance itself

Obtained the price list in Hyderabad. They messed up initially with the lifetime tax rate. I got them to correct it and resend.
