Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Jus got this from my SA.. highest amount is insurance and second highest is registration.. third one is the essential kit.
But isn’t the insurance amount too high? How much should the insurance be? A ballpark figure

Good catch. I guess their website wasn't designed to show more than 5 colours.

I have check policy bazaar for insurance quotes for Essence Pro - only United India Insurance is giving quote for 46K (Zero dep, RTI, Battery protection, Consumables). I have checked insurance for essence 38 kwh variant, the big insurance providers (ICICI Lombard, TATA AIG, HDFC Ergo) are giving it for 65k+ for brand new car. Acko is giving the brand new Essence Pro variant for 47K but its battery protection add on doesnt feel good - It has no specific Battery protection add on but is covered under Zero-dep policy. It doesn't water ingression case (covers natural calamities, electrical surges etc) so not going with Acko.

I have attached the quote Raam MG Hyderabad has shared with me. The insurance figures are over the roof. Don't see a point going for early offer to get the discount only to pay that saved money towards dealer insurance. BTW these guys told me that it is impossible for them to give me car without dealer insurance. Planning to buy the vehicle when all hype settles down.

Does anybody have any idea how much would the price be hiked post 8000 vehicles.

Hi - even I booked with RAAM MG Hyderabad (Raidurgam branch). I specifically told them that I will take insurance from outside (unless they match the quote) and they are fine with it. Where did you book your vehicle?

50k, original Windsor got a price increase by 50k. Wont go above 80k, as they have to compete with other manufacturers.

Also, EV's over the years are going to get way cheaper. Just the way the Windsor undercut every car out there in it's segment by almost 3-5lakhs same thing will happen with the Windsor when other manufacturers come in. So simply put, if you need a vehicle just buy one and enjoy it else wait for like 2-3 years until this EV war of price drops becomes stagnant. Having said that, I will say this again, for today's time the Windsor EV PRO is a steal even if the company sells it for 1lakh extra at 18.5L ex showroom. The Nexon top end 35kw was selling for this price last year in September and it didn't have ADAS or anything, not even electronic seats and that's a car made on ev 1.0 platform

This is my first post on Team BHP.
I have booked with Jubilant Motorworks, Pune. They has quoted on-road 19,07,868 which includes insurance 99,300. Insurance is on very higher side. Please let me know if anyone has booked the car with same dealer.

Thank you.

Hi, I believe the 8000 deliveries of the Windsor EV Pro by MG are intended to gauge market response before they discontinue the Windsor EV 38kWh and launch lower variants of the Windsor EV Pro, priced slightly higher than the current Windsor EV 38kWh. I don't think there will be much demand for the Windsor EV 38kWh variants when customers can get the 52.9kWh version by paying just a bit more.

So which means the people like who bought the 38kw variants are literally screwed while selling the car down the line in the future.

They have 45+ vehicles billed to them. They promised that they will give car in May itself. They aren't pushing for accessories and Tripple / PPF coating. I told them that I will pay Ex-showroom, TCS, Registration only.

Hi, welcome to the forum. My neighbour had purchased from this showroom, although he got it with the dealer insurance, as he was advised by his personal agent to go with the dealer insurance as it was an EV. Luckily, his car met with an accident on the highway within the first month and a 1.08L repair cost was covered entirely by the dealer insurance with a nominal processing charge of 2k. Seeing this, I also opted for the dealer insurance as it was my first EV but I purchased it from the B.U. Bhandari Wakad showroom.

You are absolutely right. This is exactly what will happen. I had mentioned this in an earlier post. A 50KWH battery should become standard for an EV in my opinion. The vehicle automatically becomes a one stop solution for all kinds of consumers. Actually, even a 60KWH battery as standard would be great. So that people can blast the AC, go for long drives and still get 400kms range.

Range test with my Windsor EV on a half opened 6 lane highway

I tried the range test recently on plain roads with ECO+ mode and heavy regeneration. ECO+ mode restricts your speed to 80-83 KMPH. I travelled from Mahe to Guruvayur. It was a 160 kms drive with 95% of my drive through National Highway 66 .

MG Windsor EV Review-img_3023.jpeg

As the National Highway roads in Kerala are on 6 lane expansion, half of my stretches were bad roads and diverted through service roads. Those stretches were close to 50 kms and it took me close to 1:45 hrs to close down that very small stretch. Since then, I had to travel 100-110 kms ish distance to reach the destination. The next 110 kms were good roads, mostly opened stretches of 6 lane roads. But we had to exert additional caution while driving these roads, as some people were driving in wrong side towards opposite side. And also people still cross the roads on 6 lane highways even though the roads are fully operational.

So, almost 10-20 kms before the touch down at the destination, my battery percentage was down to 50% with to range of 159 kms. So, the trip meter was showing 128 kms of running distance. Actually, I reset the trip netter only after travelling 16 kms of drive at first. Basically, the total distance travelled with 50% of charge on ECO+ and heavy regeneration is 128+16 = 144 kms.

My call is, if we drive in a sedate driving style, we can expect a driving range of 280-290 ish km which is descent for a car at this price range.

Wow, that's a lot. I would say try Policybazaar or Acko, get a quote and ask them to cover battery in insurance. Should be 30-40k.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Just checked out the car with my dealer, the interior actually looks good. The cabin feels more airy and premium as well, gives a very premium cabin vibes. The tailgate works flawlessly (tried a lot of times).
The battery was at 73% with 316 kms of range. They had 2 colours on display - Black and Blue, I didn’t like the blue that much (doesn’t look as good as it did in the commercial) . Black looked better than blue , glad I went with the silver.
He has promised delivery before May end.

Re: MG Windsor EV Review

Has anyone heard if MG has fixed the AC/inadequate cooling problem?
especially in the hot afternoon summer sun.

I did not see any mention of thermal cut glass, but they could have put in a 20%-25% bigger AC compressor.
