Tata Nexon.ev launched with a larger 45 kWh battery; 489 km range-20250610_215820.jpg

Completed 5k on my Nexon 45 yesterday, in 5 months. Has been largely trouble free, and quite satisfied thus far. Getting a range of about 335 kms which is in lines with expectations too.

Hope to post an ownership review with pics, soon.

Congrats mate, I touched 4000km yesterday, the car has been pretty much perfect sans the less leg room at the rear. There is hardly a complaint from my end too. But for a family of 3 with a fast-growing 10-year-old, I guess we are good for the next 5 years.

On range front, all extrapolated to 100-0% and round trips to account for elevation gain/loss.

Worst range to date - 280
Regular city day to day use - 310-320
Fast highways at 100kmph - 320-330
Sane highway driving 80-90kmph - 360-380
Efficient hyper milling 70-75kmph - 390-410

Yours is the Nexon 45 if I’m not wrong. The range you have stated, it is 0 to 100%? Could you give me some more info like what’s your daily usage and at what SoC do you top up? I’m asking as your regular city use range is similar to my Nexon 40. I don’t push my car beyond 25% and usually top up when it goes below 50%.

Hi Mate, Yes, mine is the Nexon 45. With regards to the range I have extrapolated it to 100-0%. I can give a weekly usages because i commute to office once a week, so weekly I drive close to 200km, so roughly 800-1000km per month. I charge only when it drops below 30%, mostly I go as low as 10 or 13%. I charge roughly 3 times a month with my 7.2kw charger. It takes 6 hours approximately to top from 10-100 overnight.

My running is 600-700Km per month. Drives only 2 times a week. Very less city drive say 25%.
With the above scenario, do you think can I buy an EV? Is there any drawback of using only twice a week. I am not looking at cost benefit.
Your view Pl.

Cost-benefit aside, driving an EV is surreal! It gives a 20L car the performance and relaxation of a 50L car.

Yeah, totally agreed with mally2, the EV experience is surreal. The silence and refinement can't be matched by cars close to the price. I doubt there's any drawback as such.

The only things you need to consider are
1. Do you go on highway trips very often? From your running, it seems like you don't. If you do, depending on your budget, the highway range might seem insufficient. The Nexon 45 gets around 330-350 100-0%. About 300kms going 100-10%. Would that be enough for you?

2. Please find the viability of having a home charger. It's essential to have reliable charging at one point of your commute. Given your commute isn't daily, I'd suggest it should be your home, if not office. Please enquire with your HRA/society about the same.
Currently, for instance, my father's office has DC charging and I use the same. I slow charge at a mall when needed. And it's working well. But me/my dad go to office daily.

Thanks.
1. Yes, I do drive occasionally to Srirangam, Tirupatii and other southern parts of Tamil Nadu.
I drive to nearby temples from Chennai (100km) twice in a month. Since I am retired don’t have regular place like office to drive.
2. Yes, I can install 16A plug point in my covered car park.
I have driven both petrol and diesel cars and SUVs for the past 40 years. I would like to drive and own an EV car or SUV. Now I am driving Ecosport petrol DCT for the last 8 years . If I buy an EV, that is going to be my 12th car.
Thank you

Sir,
In that case, you should go for an EV, eyes closed. 100kms one way is no big deal for most EVs.

Considering that you're retired and I assume would not want an unreliable car, you might want to skip Tata EVs as there are higher chances of lemons; as reliable as our cars have been

I think you should probably not wait for Urban Cruiser EV. The Japanese and Toyota in particular have not been, now how do I put it politely, entirely kosher when it comes electrification.

If Tata offers life time warranty on battery then that is going to be game charger.

Yes this is valid Tata has extended LTW for Cruvv.EV and Nexon.EV 45. It is valid for both new and existing first owners.

That's an amazing gesture from Tata motors. Thanks to the competition from Mahindra.
Now you know what to answer when any one asks "What about battery after 8 years?".
