Mahindra XEV 9e Review-battery-warranty.jpg

The screengrab is from the video stream and from quite far. What I was able to capture after squinting my eyes is below (Written below the graph where Velu is standing):

1st Line - *For First Registered Owner. Applicable for Private Registration only
2nd line - In case of Ownership Change, warranty on ...KW battery shall be 8 years or 800,000 km (not so clear)
3rd line - Whichever is earlier from the first...
4th line - Full details will be revealed at the time of bookings

Hope this helps

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Am I the only one who thinks the XEV 9e design is not polarizing? Except for the DRLs, the overall exterior design is still subtle from all angles. The interior design also looks subtle and classy except for the middle part of the steering wheel. BE 6e design on the other hand is more polarizing on both exterior and interior.

Coming to the competition, the XEV 9e is holding its own against EV6 and Ioniq 5 which costs 2 to 3 times. The XEV 9e motor (210KW, 380Nm torque) is more powerful than the Ioniq 5 (160KW, 350 Nm) and EV6 (168 KW, 350 Nm). Feature-wise also, these are as fully loaded as the Korean twins if not more. Dimensions, interior space and boot space are also similar between these vehicles. Mahindra EVs also comes with LFP batteries and unlimited warranty.

1. Unlimited warranty for the first registered owner. Applicable for private registration only (not for commercial).
2. In case of ownership change, warranty on battery will be shall be 10 years or 2,00,000 km.

Currently, the battery warranty for all EVs is 8 years or 1,60,000 km.

Old car steering designs with new age tech.
Ambys, Fiats of old had the same 2 spoke wheel design.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Fantastic review and a stunning vehicle. I LOVE the futuristic design. I think it's difficult for many to adapt to this new type of design / styling, hence the polarised opinion. On the other hand, i am absolutely sick of seeing the csuv / hatchback type of cars with the same design language which has flooded the market. This new look is refreshing to say the least.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Great review, great car!

Looks like we need a set of Mods fulltime on duty just to review MM cars. The company is launching H-O-T cars every third month

As an XUV700 AT owner, I'd say the 9e shares many cabin parts with my 700. The mode selector dial and the 4 hotkey panel below it, the boss-mode switch and the EPB/auto-hold switch are some examples. Don't know the dimensions of these are the same, but they look identical physically. Parts bin sharing idoes make good sense in many aspects and must be appreciated.

That said, I am not interested in this car, because I already have the 700. OTOH I am keenly, eagerly waiting for the review of the BE 6e. Can't believe what I wrote just now, because EVs were nowhere in my radar till 2 days back!

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Great review and Awesome clicks! I love the design, it is classy yet futuristic. Wishing all the best to Mahindra. Rest of the world is now consumed by BYD and other Chinese Electric car manufacturers. I am glad there are good electric cars from Tata and Mahindra, and kudos to Mahindra for loading it with tech and safety.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

It's a fantastic effort by Mahindra. One wonders how they acquired the capability to develop such a product. I sense many successful technology partnerships (like the one with BYD for batteries). The technology and engineering are seemingly on par with the best. I am also pleasantly surprised to note that there are hardly any negatives in this review, not even the usual suspects of panel gaps, iffy fit and finish, gaudy graphics (I still bat for proper buttons for HVAC and matt finish instead of piano black).

Having said that, the one major negative is the rearward visibility in the IRVM. There is no view as such, and the ORVMs always show other vehicles to be further than they actually are. I use my IRVM to gauge the proximity of vehicles behind me. I suppose one can turn on the rear camera while driving (possible in my Verna), but that is not the most suitable option.

Nissan had solved this problem many years ago, when they integrated a display screen in the IRVM that was always connected to the rear camera which was mounted above the rear windshield. It worked beautifully.

I agree with GTO, best wait for two years before buying a tech-stuffed Mahindra, or for that matter any new car with complex tech.

Outstanding review. Outdone everyone with the attention to detail!

One thing I hate about these neo modern interiors is piano black/gloss black. Just look at the fingerprints on the consoles of the test cars!

Moreover, you can take out the rear-center headrest when not in use to further enhance visibility.

Too much piano black is difficult to maintain however, the jet black looks fantastic to look at. Could have been less shiny.

These looks should definitely grow on us with time.

One negative, I think I saw was that ventilation was available only for the driver seat. That was pretty strange.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

The battery is from BYD, and going by the specs, the motor is the APP550 from VW. So, I guess this means the basics are sorted and the buyer can be confident about these aspects even though it is a brand new car from Mahindra. With this motor and a 79kWh battery pack, the claimed 500km real-world range should be achievable.

Looks are divisive and, to me, Mahindra has gone overboard, but there will be plenty who like it. The specs, features and space on offer is impressive. It will be interesting to see how Mahindra prices the top-end version.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Earlier, 3.8m cars were seating 5. With Dzire/Nexon - it became 4m cars seating 5 people. Then Duster/Creta made it 4.3m seating 5. With Harrier, Hector it became 4.5m length cars seating 5. The move from 3.8 to 4.5 came with a real difference in the legroom and boots pace. I agree that with coupe design, the headroom is limited, but even with 4.8mts, if more room could not be liberated, it is a tough pill to digest. Also in all photos i am seeing, the roof liner is open, with it closed the headroom will become even more constrained. The leg space at rear is lesser than Harrier/Hector with .3m more length. In our already crowded streets, the 4.8m length with no real benefits other than just style (which is awkward in my opinion)is just not worth it.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

First off - great review. Thank you for all these details, which I was waiting for.

Next - big Kudos to Mahindra. They have really succeeded in making something very groundbreaking. Something everyone is talking about. And something that has really got a wide range of potential car buyers excited (including me - someone who was finding everything in the 40 lakh range very boring)

So many have mentioned:
1 - too much black plastic (100% agree - huge pain) - look at most of the videos
2 - rear ingress/egress issues due to coupe style (100% agree) - folks have touched upon.
3 - Mahindra known for tech niggles (XUV700 still not free of digital gremlins)

My personal gripes
1 - not enough customisation available on digital cluster. Why have a screen at all if you don't provide options like standard dials, customisable colours, different fonts etc.

2 - Auto park is super sweet. Been wanting it. The remote key parking is nice to have but there's a big miss. From what I can see, the remote parking has to be initiated from inside the car. If you come to the car and two other cars are parked on either side, you should be able to use key to drive the car out. But no - you have to get into the car, switch on car, go to parking mode on screen and tap remote key parking. That's absurd.

3 - Why or why did they miss out on a powered front passenger seat? They included so much tech only to miss out here.

4 - Interior selfie camera seems to be always on - always looking? I don't like that. There should have been an option to cover it (for those who are ok with disabling the attentiveness feature)

5 - The review mentions it, but is it actually double layer acoustic glass? I believe it is sort of like two layers of safety glass with an optically clear, acoustic damping material sandwiched in between. Double layer would increase cost - but they could have included this as an option in Pack 3. Acoustic glass all around.

6 - Given how bad the rear visibility is through the window, they could have included a digital rear view mirror (the camera is there anyway)

7 - Am really used to seeing the left and right camera views when you switch on the indicators. It is a really useful feature to see blind spots. Screens and cameras are both there already.

8 - I would have really liked to have rear AC blower controls in the back. Just an on/off.

Some things you may have missed:
1 - The electric tailgate has a smart option (enabled in settings).*Walk to the back with key in pocket and stay there, boot opens automatically. Also, you have the foot waving option, I believe only in the 9e - not the 6e.

2 - Another BHPian was mentioning (forgot where) that they wished the car included a digital ICE sound generator. It does have that, again in vehicle settings. Sound comes through internal speakers only, but from the video I saw, it is not very loud and there are only 3 or 4 options (V8 included).

3 - The rear roll up curtain/shades are only in the XEV 9e pack 3, not available at all in the 6e on any pack.

4 - The tyres have a layer of foam inside for road noise reduction. a great feature.

5 - There are additional tail lamps which are only visible when the tail gate is open. A nice feature to have (it's a regulation in some countries)

Some questions I have (in case anyone can expound):
1 - How many blower levels of ventilated seats does it have?
2 - How good are the LED headlights (coming from Seltos, which is pathetic, this is really important for me).
3 - Does it have LED front fog lamps? Do they double up as cornering lights?
4 - Seems like the aero covers on the alloy rims are plastic - can be easily removed. How do the 20inch wheels look like without the aero covers?
5 - Normally, key fobs have an actual key hidden inside (in case the battery fails). Is it there?
6 - What is the resolution of the screens?
7 - Do the steaming videos play in HD quality? can you choose streaming quality like you usually can in the OTT apps?
8 - Interface looks like it's built on Android (makes it easier for apps too) How does one download additional apps? Is it possible to 'sideload' apps and apks?
9 - Can the wireless charging pads be switched off? (I want a secure place to keep my phone but hate wireless charging).

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Brake by wire is when there is no physical linkage between the pedal and the master cylinder (the pedal is basically a potentiometer switch with force feedback).

What these guys have is a setup with the vaccuum booster replaced with a servo motor instead to enable better control over brake blending between regen and friction braking. This setup is NOT brake by wire. The pedal in this case will still be connected to the master cylinder.

OEMs marketing teams have started playing fast and loose with terms these days

Meanwhile this is also quite alarming, skip to 21:23 (could a line on how distracting this is be added in the T-BHP review also please?):

New fear unlocked, knowing our countrymen/women. People will start driving off bridges while watching youtube

Both seats have it. Just that the driver seat also has a physical button, passenger doesn't have the physical button, and will need to rely on touchscreen.

Are these a lot of lights? Can someone please explain what each of them does, including the narrow horizontal one at the bottom?
