I am contemplating between getting the charger or getting a third party charger from Amazon as I think I’ll anyway have to get a separate EV meter to get subsidised EV tariffs as in Delhi we already get 200 units of electricity free and we use around 250-300.

Or is it fine to just use the 3 Kw portable charger is the daily drive is around 45 km in peak traffic hours?

Also I’m not sure whether Zevpoint, Strompuls, Exicom chargers are as good or better and if they include distribution box, proper installation and wiring etc like Mahindra does.
I am thinking of getting the Exicom spin Air 11.2kw charger from Amazon, the current price is 43k. Last month it was selling for 39k. From what I heard they have good customer service and also market leader in India. Most car OEMs are using their charger or components. The charger has its own app and supports bluetooth/wifi and it also provides the option to set the charging current that you want. Zevpoint charger looks promising and also has similar features additionally also looks to have in built RCD which looks to be of type A. The 22kw one is selling for 40k. Anyone has a xperience with Zevpoint? Does anyone have details about the app mahindra is providing with the charger and if it supports to set up the charging current?

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

The VisionX in XEV can be configured to show POIs. When this is enabled, and when destination is set via the inbuilt navigation, the system shows charging points. They are shown as per the physical location of the chargers i.e. Left/Right on the VisionX as per if they are on LHS or RHS. This is very good feature.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

A quick update on a long drive [ Gurgaon - Jaipur (via Del-Mum Expressway) - Gurgaon (NH8) ]
Leg 1:
Gurgaon - Jaipur via Expressway
Drive Mode: Default
  • Started trip with 100% SoC
  • Cruised around 112-115 Km/Hr through out. Never went below 100km/hr
  • Parked for 30-40 minutes with AC on for the baby.
  • Reached Jaipur with 35% SoC with average Efficiency of 6km/kwh. Total distance in this leg - 280Kms
    Mahindra XEV 9e Review-reached-jaipur.jpeg
    Leg 1 Trip

During the end of the drive, found Power Saving mode (not the Range mode) which limits the top speed to 90km/hr and acceleration is like any NA 1.5L Petrol car.

Here is a video on how to apply it. In setting, you can also set if the AirCon is disabled in this mode which I have not.

Leg 2:
Jaipur city drive
Drive Mode: Default
  • Drove around 30-35 Kms in Jaipur
  • Used the car in parking mode for about an hour with AirCon on
  • Lost around 4-5% SoC

Leg 3:
Jaipur to Gurgaon via NH8
Drive Mode: Power Saving (not Range)
  • Drove till Shiva Dhaba before Poata [ This has charger listed as 60Kw on Statiq but is effectively 40Kw on original Glida app ]
  • SoC on arrival = 20%
  • Kms Done till now = 361km
  • Average Efficiency in Power Saving mode = Greater than 8.2Km/Kwh
  • Charged from 20% to 59% at 30KW DC speed
  • Arrived home with 36% SoC left with efficiency of 8.4Km/Kwh
  • Drive range left 220-240Kms
  • Drove like an ICE car but limited to 90km/hr. Overtook almost everyone on the way.

Complete Leg 3 - Jaipur to Home via NH8

Leg from charging stop to Home

Hilights:
  • The XEV can easily cross 500Kms on highway runs
  • Was travelling with spouse and one 4yr old and one 6 month old. No issues. Very comfortable cruiser.
  • VisionX , when enabled all features, and when navigated via the inbuilt Mapples navigation is a game changer.
  • The VisionX in XEV can be configured to show POIs. When this is enabled, and when destination is set via the inbuilt navigation, the system shows charging points. They are shown as per the physical location of the chargers i.e. Left/Right on the VisionX as per if they are on LHS or RHS. This is very good feature.
  • If, it remains niggle free, this is the best EV to buy. Awesome product in all.
  • ADAS works like a charm
Mahindra XEV 9e Review-total-trip.jpeg
Complete trip summary.

All in all, I am very satisfied with this trip did not face any range anxiety.
It's too early to pass on a final verdict, but as it stands, its one of the best EV.

I have a Tesla in the family, so I am benchmarking it against it. I am an avid follower of global EV space and well versed with the current global market offerings.

I am super proud that an Indian manufacturer has the ability to send shockwaves across the globe with these products.

Do let me know in case further details are required.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Just completed PDI of my stealth black 9E. Everything seemed to be working as intended apart from one door requiring more pressure to close - rest of the doors were fine. The haptic touch controls were annoying to use - Mahindra should have just used regular buttons. I will still be taking delivery of the car since I feel the door issue can get sorted out later since prices are getting hiked by 4% from April 1st and also U.P might add road tax on EVs at a future date.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Update on Warranty Clause

On frequent followup on the warranty clause, which prohibited continuous DC charging more than 4 times, I got the following response from Mahindra. I would have been happy if they had updated the warranty document instead of just replying to me personally. Nevertheless, I share mail response here below. Should we now put this concern behind and move forward??

Quote:
As mentioned in my previous mail, your warranty will not be void if you do not do an AC 100% charge, after DC charge cycles. It is said as a cautionary measure.

Continuous DC fast charging is not advisable for the long-term health of a vehicle battery. Hence, this is a caution to avoid battery degradation and its performance over time and recommended as the good practices to maintain the battery health in good condition.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Just booked the XEV 9E. Those who have already taken the delivery, can you please confirm about the V2L functionality? If yes, then what max wattage can it support? Do we need to buy a separate Adaptor for it? My Sales Advisor couldn't really answer.

V2L and V2V aren’t supported as of now as communicated by Mahindra.

As far as I know it does not have V2L or V2V capabilities. That is the one feature which is missing and i had mentioned in the same to the SA, but their argument is not many use this feature and hence was not prioritised by Mahindra.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Floored by the road presence of the xev9e (I first saw it on road in Dec 24), I went to the showroom to have a dekko.

I was completely disappointed by the rear seats. My head touched the roof liner in both the twins. I could not even crouch in the be6.

Also, I found the boot space extremely poor in even the 9e. Besides the high loading lip, the height of the space is extremely limited. I doubt if two suitcases can be stacked on top of each other, especially if the parcel shelf is in place.

At this point in time, I’ll pass and wait for the xev 7e.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Hi Friends
At last got the delivery of my XEV 9E Tango red yesterday from Koncept Automobiles Safdarganj Enclave Delhi yesterday. It was undoubtedly the worst delivery experience one can have.
I was called in at 3:30pm and got the car handed over at 7:45pm. The assigned associate had promised that the car would be delivered with a 100% charge, but I had to really push them to get it charged. Despite this, at the time of delivery, it had only a 68% charge.

Some of the accessories chosen by me were already out of stock. The associate wasn't able to explain all the features and was hit and trial for him too. The Apple car play and in-built navigation on MAPPLS didn't work and don't work now, either.

In order to polish the interior they applied some chemical with a stained cloth and it has already blackened the grey lining just below the display central display panel.
I had initially asked for Acko insurance (74k) but finally settled for a company-provided one at 83k ( the SA said that the delivery will be delayed if I opt for a third party insurance).

The charger wiring is done but the box installation is pending and have been told that it will be done tomorrow.

Rear view visibility is really bad and I am planning to remove the central head rest for the rear seat. I had also opted for company-provided PPF coating for 1.25 L, and the finish was immaculate. Most of the features work fine with no delay but saw a lag in temp adjustment from CDP. I feel that there is a need for the rear parcel tray or else whatever is kept in the boot can be seen from outside.

Will post more inputs of the driving experience in the coming days.

Plug share and ehub by MG are good. Attached the complete set of apps that I know for EV. I have used static, zeon, one plug and relux
So many🫨 maybe we need an app that rules them all.

This was an unfortunate miss by Mahindra. India is a place full of excessive power failures and if people were able to use V2L for powering a few fans to sleep on summer nights or a few lights for kids to study at night etc (queue emotional music), it would have been a PR win.

In practical terms it would be a really useful feature for rescue, camping, quality of life etc etc.

I doubt it can be introduced using a software tweak only. Perhaps an external adapter may be possible.

Congratulations on your possession. Based on my test drive as well, XEV feels a more practical option than BE6.

While I do agree that EVs are the future, most people, including me, are still hesitant to explore this option mainly because of range anxiety and lack of proper infrastructure beyond tier 1/tier 2 cities.

- But if you want to become future proof for next 10-15 years, check out the Exicom Spin Air 22 kW charger for around 48k on Amazon
- It has user configurable power output in the form of 3.3-11-22 kW and same specifications as the one being provided by Mahindra Electric
- You can increase sanctioned power load for once as per residential and charger use and be relaxed for the rest of your life for EV requirements
- Recommending as we have done the above 22 kW option
A higher KW AC charger is generally good advice, but with some caution.

1. For AC/level 2 charging, the box we put on the wall is technically an EVSE (EV Supply Equipment) with some safety cut offs and comms. The actual AC charger that converts AC to DC is onboard (inside) the car. Mahindra 9E onboard charger is limited to 11KW in the specs. Unless Mahindra confirms the 11KW rating is a software lock that they can remove - this is unlikely, because Mahindra will not put costlier 22KW components and then call it 11KW. So, there is zero benefit in going to a 22KW AC wall 'charger' as you will never be able to AC charge this 9E at 22KW.

2. The wall charger/EVSE may be user configurable for 3.3 to 11KW but remember that your wiring to the meter and from the meter to the wall charger will not automatically upgrade itself. If you need the flexibility to go up to 11KW charging at home, you will need wiring for the right gauge of copper wire and an upgraded load rating or separate 11KW connection.

If the wire distance is long, this 11KW wiring can be rather expensive. For some, it is worth the peace of mind for emergency use, but your view may differ. If someone accidently sets the charger to 11KW and your wiring is for 3.3KW, you will get melted wiring and a fire hazard. In my view, such connections should not be permitted by the utility.

3. An 11KW onboard charger has its peak efficiency operating at 11KW. It will run more than 3 times longer and waste more electricity in losses when you operate it at 3.3KW. If you wire for 11KW and get an 11KW wall charger, please use it routinely at 11KW. For 9E's battery size of 79KW, 11KW is less than 0.15C. It's very slow charging from battery's point of view. Don't worry that it is fast or degrades the battery - not true.

I would recommend that for any electric car to be allowed registration in India, the onboard charger must support a min 7.2KW AC charge rate. It doesn't make sense to be limited to 3.3KW unless your battery is smaller than 5-6KW and lacks cooling, and that will be more of an indoor buggy not a car for public road use.)
