XEV 9e : 1 month Review Hi everyone,
This is my first post on Team-BHP, although I’ve been an avid follower since 2016.
I took delivery of my Mahindra XEV 9e on April 4th after pre-booking it offline on February 1st with Koncept Mahindra, Sector 48, Gurgaon. A big shoutout to Prabhat, the sales executive, for ensuring a smooth and hassle-free delivery. The on-road price, including the charger, came to INR 32.5 lakhs.
Vehicle Search Background
I had been actively looking for a replacement for my 2020 MG Hector Sharp Diesel for nearly a year. My key requirements were:
Automatic transmission or an EV
Real-world range above 400 km
A genuine upgrade over the Hector in comfort and features
Vehicles Considered
Tata Safari/Harrier EVs: Felt like a downgrade—less spacious and not as comfortable.
XUV700: Good driving dynamics but didn’t feel like a true upgrade in terms of space and interior quality.
Jeep Meridian: Tempting due to year-end discounts. Loved the interiors and seating comfort, but at 38 lakhs and given concerns around after-sales service, I passed.
BYD Atto 3: Though feature-rich, its compact size and high price (37 lakhs) didn’t suit my needs.
The Decision: Mahindra XEV 9e
In February, I finally checked out the XEV 9e with my wife—and we both immediately felt it was the perfect fit. It felt like a significant upgrade from the Hector. The plush interiors, triple screens, and overall presence were impressive. Having previously test-driven the BYD Atto 3 and Seal, the 9e stood out, especially for someone transitioning from a manual ICE car. The auto parking, speaker system, and drivability really impressed me.
Special mention for the audio system—it’s phenomenal. Coming from vehicles like the S-Cross and Hector, this was a noticeable upgrade. The bass and clarity reminded me of the sound quality in my dad’s old Honda City 2010, which was previously my benchmark.
Delivery & Charging Experience
While the vehicle delivery was seamless, the charger installation process was less satisfactory. Despite multiple follow-ups, it took 13 days and several escalations to get it installed in my apartment's underground parking. The coordination between Mahindra and the third-party vendor was lacking. Even after installation, the charger doesn’t show up in the Me4U app, and there's still an open ticket regarding this.
Driving Experience (2,500 kms driven)
I've completed around 2,500 km, including three long trips. Transitioning from an ICE vehicle to an EV has been a breeze.
Driving Modes: I mostly use Default or Range Mode—both sufficient for daily use.
Performance: Great pickup, minimal body roll, and quick overtaking ability.
Traffic Handling: The single-pedal drive and regen modes (L3 in city, L1 on highway) are super useful.
Suspension & Seating Comfort
Suspension: On the firmer side. My Hector offered a more comfortable ride, especially in the rear.
Seats: The front seats lack cushioning. Both my wife and I experienced tailbone discomfort on 2-3 hour drives—something we never felt in the Hector. I've raised this with the product team and hope it’s addressed during the first service.
Real-World Range Performance
1. Gurgaon to Mussoorie (365 km)
Started at 99% SoC, charged to 92% en route at Chotiwala restaurant.
Used 65.5 kWh, with AC on and YouTube running.
Estimated range: ~430 km.
2. Mussoorie to Gurgaon (return)
Regained charge downhill (from 92% to 96%) due to regen.
Used 50 kWh, with entertainment and AC on.
Estimated range: ~575 km.
3. Gurgaon to Haldwani (307 km)
Started at 98% SoC, arrived at 37% SoC.
Estimated range: ~500 km, at speeds of 70–120 km/hr with AC and YouTube usage.
Hill Driving Note: Consumption on steep climbs (e.g., Haldwani to Nainital) is high—expect 2–3 km/kWh. On gentler slopes like Chandigarh–Manali, range would likely be better.
Misses and Room for Improvement
No electric adjustment for front passenger seat—missed feature, especially for my wife.
No sunglass holder—minor but noticeable if you’re used to it.
No passenger door unlock feature—unlike the Hector.
Seat comfort—biggest concern; needs improvement.
Most of these were overlooked during initial evaluation but become noticeable in daily use.
Final Thoughts
Despite a few shortcomings, I’m overall quite satisfied with the XEV 9e, especially with the driving experience, tech features, and range. I hope Mahindra continues to fine-tune the user experience, especially around seat comfort and post-sales coordination.
Looking forward to many more miles and sharing future updates with this community!
