Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Mahindra BE6 & XEV 9E – Real-World Issues Reported by Owners + New Buyer Checklist

As an EV enthusiast closely tracking the Mahindra BE6 and XEV 9E, I’ve compiled a detailed list of real-world issues reported by early owners along with a practical checklist for new buyers.

First off, I want to acknowledge that Mahindra has done a tremendous job with design, road presence, and EV innovation. Both BE6 and XEV 9E represent a bold step in India’s electric journey. However, being first-generation products, a few rough edges have emerged that prospective buyers should be aware of.

Issues Reported by Users So Far:

Infotainment / Driver Display Delay – Some users experienced boot-up lag of up to 5 minutes.
Keyless Entry Glitches – Auto-unlock/lock features inconsistent in certain units.
Key Fob Pairing/Range Problems – Weak signal; some fobs replaced by dealers.
ADAS False Braking – Emergency braking triggered incorrectly at high speeds.
Apple CarPlay / ME App Inactive – Features not available at launch; OTA updates expected.
Boot Latch Not Closing Properly – Reported in a few early units.
Squealing Noise Under Acceleration/Braking – Common in high-torque EVs but noticeable.
TPMS Sync Issues – Inconsistent readings between onboard display and mobile app.
“Park” Gear Glitch – Vehicle refuses to shift into Park despite brake being pressed.

I’ve compiled a full report and checklist here for anyone interested:

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

I was planning to buy an xev 9e and was considering the different insurances
any suggestions on which insurance company would be good?

Also what would be a good amount to negotiate down to
Currently they have quoted 1,55,000

Any inputs are welcome

Go for Acko, I bought it from them for ₹64,000/- with all add-on’s. Dealer prices are absolutely ridiculous.

Are you the YouTuber with the channel XEV experience?. Since he even used Acko insurance and got 32 Lakhs on road price. Is it true that the on-road price is 32Lakhs? Will this be available in Chennai? It will be helpful for any inputs

Got tata aig from dealer for 72k with zero dep, RTI and all other options included. They also offered future generali for 69k. Basically I got the tata aig quote from outside and they matched

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Mahindra may tweak EV portfolio to offer greater range in lower variants.

> Likely to create new variants to make its sales mix more balanced.
> In the current bookings, the mix is still very skewed to the top end – more than 75% are for Pack 3
> Mahindra believes that the mix will start changing when they put out display and test drive vehicles of Pack 2 and Pack 1
> The quarter 4 sales and the quarter 1 sales is Pack 3 only
> The company is already planning a strategic shift to balance the mix and grow volumes
> Will have to start getting at least 25-30% of our volumes from Pack 2 and Pack 1
> Most significant learnings for the company so far has been consumer preference for extended driving range over features.
> A very large segment of people who will want 79 kWh in lower packs. This is the big mistake from the company's forecast. (79 kWh will be only in the top end and everything else will be 59 kWh)
> To address this, Mahindra may need to introduce new versions that offer the 79 kWh battery—capable of delivering over 500 km of range—paired with fewer technological features to make them more affordable.
>The company believes this re-varianting approach could unlock a broader customer base and drive higher volumes.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

A base 79 is the need of the hour. I hope Mahindra prioritises this type of variant.

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to share a brief experience and seek some guidance from fellow members of the Team-BHP
On the occasion of my parents' 14th wedding anniversary, we had planned a lunch outing to Barbeque Nation. The meal was great, and to our pleasant surprise, the staff even arranged a small cake to mark the celebration—which was a thoughtful touch.
After lunch, we needed to do a bit of shopping as I had an upcoming trip the next day. We headed over to The Chennai Silks for some quick purchases. Conveniently, this store is located right opposite Jubilant Mahindra, a dealership I’d been meaning to visit for a while.
Once our shopping was done and we were on our way home, we had to take a U-turn right next to the Mahindra showroom. That’s when we thought it might be a good opportunity to stop by and enquire about a test drive, since it was right there. Unfortunately, when we got closer, we realised the showroom was closed. Only later did I recall that it was May 1st, Labour Day—so that probably explained the closure.

This left me with a few questions on my mind

1. Are Mahindra showrooms (specifically Jubilant Mahindra in Chennai) open on Saturdays and Sundays?
2. Even if the showroom is closed on weekends or holidays, do their service centres usually remain operational?
3. Are there any standard weekly off days or other holidays when the showroom typically stays shut?

It would be helpful to know, especially since I'd like to plan a proper visit soon to check out the XEV 9e in person and hopefully go for a test drive. Planning to buy if I like, so hoping that at least the service is open on such days
Appreciate any input from members who have dealt with this dealership or similar ones. Thanks in advance!

Will be posting about the trip (which happened from the 2nd to the 5th of May) soon—hoping to share some highlights in the coming days.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Mahindra may launch lower variants with a 79 kWh battery pack. Some interesting comments from Rajesh Jejurikar, Mahindra Auto CEO.

“To start growing volumes, we will have to have a reasonable mix in Pack 1 and Pack 2. We will saturate at a price point which you will not be able to sustain high volumes at…We will have to start getting at least 25-30% of our volumes from Pack 2 and Pack 1,”

“There is a very large segment of people who will want 79 kWh in lower packs. This has been very different from the assumption in which we went – that 79 kWh will be only in the top end and everything else will be 59 kWh. There is a segment of people for whom range is really important over many of the other features that we are offering,”

“That’s a big, big differentiation. Nobody else has 79 kWh, and a 79 kWh which is giving the kind of range that our customers are beginning to experience is a big selling point because it breaks range anxiety,” he said. The company believes this re-varianting approach could unlock a broader customer base and drive higher volumes.

Mahindra seems to have quickly realized that the EV customer base and requirements are a lot different from ICE customers. Most of the EV customers are very knowledgeable and prefer better EV specs (bigger batteries, range, charging speeds) over other features. This is the main reason for the failure of all new Tata EVs and the Creta electric. They are way overpriced for the range and charging speeds they offer.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

A base variant with 79 kw battery and the lower powered traction motor will be enough for most buyers. Also avoid panaromic sunroof, electric seats, all electric gizmos etc etc. But let there be no compromise on safety features. ADAS usefullness is something I am reserving my opinion on.

I hope that Mahindra allows the initial booking of pack 2 to be upgraded to 79 kWh for customers who prefer larger battery pack. This will definitely be a game changer for XEV.
If any fellow BHP member has any idea when these variants may be launched, it would be helpful.

Final Update.

Cancelled ALL 3 Bookings.

1 white XEV 9e pack 3
1 Red XEV 9e pack 3
1 Burnt Sienna Thar ROXX 4x4 AT AX7L

Got frustrated with them not being able to get a vehicle across to me inspite of 2 of the bookings being in the 1st minute and third one in the 3rd minute.

Further gave them 3 colour options too as a last resort.

Frankly it's fishy.

But it all happens for a good cause.

Picked up a 9 month old 2024, 5000km run ISUZU VCross. 4x4 AT Z Prestige with lots of loadings in the suspension etc. Had an eye on this for long. Got it from the Authorized dealer. 2+ years warranty remains.

Always felt the ROXX was a bit cramped for my well nourished 6 foot frame and that the XEV would result in range anxiety, technical glitches, lost time on outstation charging and technological obsolescence due to rapid improvements in EV space. It is a lovely attempt by Mahindra and yet Risky. A risk I was prepared to take if treated well by Mahindra and the Dealer. Sadly they seem to have prioritize other customers out of turn. 1st minute bookings can't be so delayed and they revised the dates twice.

Sold the BMW X6 in Exchange.

Hexa 4x4 XT will also go soon. Second car search continues. But am a patriot sworn off TATA and Mahindra for now. They get too greedy whenever they have a hit on hand. Dealers insisting on insurance through them is a legal offence.

Replaced the VCross tyres with Yokohama Geolander 265/60 R18 AT first thing.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Hi Fellow BHPians,

I am in process of buying XEV 9e, but confused between 3 colours - Forest Green, Nebula Blue and Stealth Black.

I have seen all three and all of them look great, would love to hear your recommendations on the colour.

All 3 colors are dark so be ready to sacrifice some range in summers as the AC will have to work a bit extra to cool these colored cars as compared to say a white or desert myst one. Heat retention will be in the following order - Black>Nebula Blue>Forest Green. If the above fact does not affect you, then Stealth Black would look the best. Second best would be Nebula Blue in my opinion.

On the other hand, if the above fact does affect you. Go for Desert Myst, like me! Else, white would be the most range efficient.

Not sure how much does this matter. The roof is same black in all colours the front and rear glasses are same. The boot and doors are very well insulated from inside.

I have desert mist 9e, but I feel most part of the heat retention is sunroof and glasses, when I compare with other cars with dark colours but no sunroof from my garage.
