Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Has any of the owners observed that the XeV 9E seats are very uncomfortable?
I have been doing long distance journeys and after sitting for an hour or more, their is pain in the tailbone. Similar observation by my wife who has been co passenger and also recently by my parents sitting at the back.
For a 32 lakh car comfortable seats are a basic requirement. I have never felt this issue in my MG hector or previously owned Scross either.
I feel the cushioning is not upto the mark. I have no problem with the back but it is tailbone where I feel the seat lacks cushioning.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

30 Days, 2400 KMs and a Whole Lot of EV Thrill – My Experience So Far

From the moment I took delivery of my car on April 17th, it’s been a mix of excitement, discoveries, and a few heart-skipping surprises. After months of waiting and dealing with all sorts of drama, the car finally made it to the showroom. Thanks to a final-hour push from the dealership team, I got it delivered within two days. Despite some hiccups, they really stepped up when it mattered.

Since then, I’ve practically been living in the car, soaking in every bit of the experience. Here's my real user take after 30 days on the road.

Range Anxiety? Not Anymore

At first, the range after full charge hovered around 350 km. That gave me a minor panic attack until I figured out how much regen levels and my driving style mattered. Once I got the hang of feather-light acceleration and used regen smartly, it settled above 450 km.

On a drive from Bangalore to Chennai via NE7, the urge to push the car was too strong. In default mode it hit triple digits easily. My brother was in his XUV, and we just waved goodbye. Of course, the range dropped fast during all this fun. On the return leg through the hills, I drove smart with regen 3, AC on eco mode, and locked at 90 kmph. Managed to recover over 100 km. That's when I really understood how this EV behaves.

ADAS: Felt Like a Co-Driver

On NE7, I let the ADAS do most of the work. Adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist worked smoothly without glitches or reboots. At first, it was spooky when the steering nudged on its own. Felt like something from a sci-fi movie. But once I got used to it, the system gave me confidence.

One thing that could be better is the frequent hands-on-wheel warning. Pops up too soon and gets annoying. Also, reverse movement is tricky with automatic emergency braking. If you're not gently pressing the accelerator, it slams the brakes if it senses anything nearby. This can be disabled or managed with a light foot.

Features – Mostly Great, Some Quirks

No deal-breakers, but a few things to note:

1. DOMS not working
2. Door approach lock and unlock feature missing – service team said it’s been removed
3. Key fob recognition radius – Even when the key is inside the car, especially if kept near the wireless charging spot, it sometimes fails to detect. Honestly, we can’t be expected to place the key in the exact spot every time. A bigger issue is when you get down briefly after pulling out of your gate and the key is still in your pocket. The car suddenly honks and blares alarms five times in a row, giving a mini heart attack and a full dose of embarrassment. A subtle in-car alert, like a seatbelt chime, would be a much smarter way to handle this
4. Android Auto disconnects often, especially wireless – still testing with another phone to confirm
5. Sonic Suite – VESS sound works only through rear speakers, front ones are silent
6. Steering haptic feedback stopped once during my return from Bangalore – fixed itself after a quick 5-minute sleep mode. You just need to learn the right pressure to make it work reliably

Comfort Check

Seats are a bit on the firmer side. My kid used to love sitting in front, but after bumping his head on the metal bits a couple of times, he’s now a loyal back-seater. Lumbar support is good, but the overall cushioning could have been softer.

Seat Maintenance – Not for the Faint-Hearted

White seats look premium but are a nightmare to maintain. Within a month they started showing stains. I’ve been using 3M interior care for now. Not the perfect fix, but okay for quick clean-ups. M\&M seriously needs to think of accessories or coating options.

Doors – Heavy Duty Workouts

The doors are solid and well insulated. But closing them takes effort. The vacuum effect makes it worse when only one door is open. Quick hack – crack a window open and the door shuts much easier.

Today, I noticed a rattling sound from the inner handle while pulling the door. Feels like a hinge got loose. Heading to the service center to get it checked and will update.

Hidden Gems

1. Carpet lamp glows with a low battery symbol when you unlock at under 15 percent
2. When hazard lights are on, the carpet lamp flashes a caution pattern
3. ME4U app lets you close only the driver’s window remotely – hoping for full window control in future updates
4. Secure360 works but with short looped video clips. Recordings are clear though

First free service is done. Odo’s at 2400+ km. Still loving every bit of the journey with this car. Minor glitches exist but nothing major enough to steal the joy. Hoping Mahindra tightens up support response times. So far, service has been good and I’m all set for more adventures ahead.

More stories on the way from this happy EV owner.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

Hi,
I took delivery of the XEV 9E on the 16th and I’m extremely happy with the vehicle so far.

Still in the "getting to know each other" phase, but I’ve noticed that the welcome audio message:

"Welcome to the Mahindra XUV [model name], India’s most powerful electric SUV with the highest torque in its class"

plays intermittently on startup and it's becoming a bit of an irritant.
Does anyone know how to disable it?

Thanks in advance!

I completely agree. Compared to the XUV 700, which was my daily driver before this, these seats are lacking in holding me in place and overall comfort. I have started getting backaches when driving, especially in the horrid traffic in Mumbai. I am fine when I switch cars, so definitely an issue with bolstering of this car. I have tried playing around with the Lumbar support, but it doesn't affect much.

Great to know that most niggles have been sorted out! I'm expecting delivery sometime during June or July. I just wanted to know, is Apple CarPlay been unlocked yet?

What a pathetic car. It gave all sorts of error messages. High voltage battery discharge, low battery voltage discharge, front radar issue. And now it's just dead.

And this is after it died two weeks back after which they replaced the LV Exide battery with Amaron.

How am I ever going to do long trips outside the city with this? And here I was, planning a Mumbai - Pench drive.

The RSA guy jump started the car, but I'm getting this error on switching it on

Mods - could you please merge the two posts?

Really sorry to hear your issue.
Would you still recommend the car? I have booked pack2 and am waiting for delivery to start from July.
Chose pack 2 considering Mahindra issues of software and advanced features in XUV700. Choose XEV over Hycross due to drive advantage of EV.

Have been following the pros and cons of this. Most of the users complain about features and do post purchase rationalisation due to driving performance. However these battery issues put a question mark on the performance and reliability of the car. Just wanted to know your take on it.

Not yet, but probably end of this month with a software update. I highly doubt it though as it took almost an year in the XUV 700 to sort it out, might take time here as well.

Damn thats bad, Hope its just SW and not HW faults and your car is back on the road soon, please keep us posted.

TATA used to have these HV issues and it took them years to completely resolve them I hope M&M can fix these sooner than later.

That is very disappointing to hear. Considering i also just had my battery replaced , i have now lost the confidence to take this car anywhere till these issues are sorted. Getting stranded in the middle of nowhere in extreme heat is not worth it. Please keep us posted on how they resolve this.

Sorry to hear about this. I guess the LV issue an cascading impact, with the primary issue being your HV unit is switched off.

My take below, purely from an outsider perspective.

Like people said, the HV issue was found in Tata too, and I do expect that MM will also continue to face it for sometime. The challenge is, the HV system is very critical for safety. They need to isolate it, before things go out of hand. There needs to be a fine balance between safety and high availability. HV can be isolated off under multiple conditions.
1. Water intrusion.
2. Individual cells getting heated up.
3. Impact sensors behaving badly.
4. Current leak observed.
etc.

So until, they harden the BMS code to handle all these different scenarios efficiently, and achieve that fine balance, we can see these kind of failures. I hope they develop very good diagnosis soon, so that they can identify the cause in matter of minutes and fix the right component.

Got our XEV 9E delivered few days back.

On return journey from Nashik, the car showed a fantastic efficiency of 10.2 km/kWh.

Tried 360 kW charger at BKC

Clocked ~4,800 km on the odometer, last trip totalled to ~3,900 km.

Keen eyes might have seen ADAS malfunction lights in the above picture, XEV got rear ended. Nonetheless our XEV 9E is still drivable.

Re: Mahindra XEV 9e Review

So an update. The car gave an HV error after the jump-start and it shut down on its own. So we waited for 10 minutes and tried it again when it worked and the car started as it always does. I was then advised to drive it to the service center to diagnose the issue.

I was skeptical about driving it all the way considering the HW error and requested for a flat bed to transport it to the service centre which the RSA denied. I then requested if the RSA technician could accompany me to the service centre, either in my car or follow me on his scooter so that there's an immediate backup if it fails. Even that was denied. It's quite disappointing that Mahindra expects me to invest 33l on this car while they can't invest 1 hour of a technician which would have given me a lot of comfort and confidence. Everyone loves to hide behind the "I'm only an employee following SOP" while never taking ownership.

The solution suggested by RSA was to request a pick up from the service centre and they were good enough to do so. However, getting stranded on the road can happen to the driver as well, that's what I wanted to have an immediate solution for. But SOP is king, isnt it?

It reached the service centre around 2 and I'm yet to get any update on the reason for all this drama.

Driving the car is absolute bliss, especially on the Mumbai Pune expressway using ADAS. The range is also good enough. But such incidents really shake your confidence in the brand and makes me wonder if I made a mistake.

I'm ok being a beta tester for dealing with niggles that dont affect the basic utility of a vehicle. Something this serious cannot happen. And I'm not the only one its happened to.
