Re: Mahindra BE 6 Review

Anyone faced loss of Regen till now? It was working fine for me till some time back properly. Just done a full DC charge and then it stopped working. It shows L1, L2, L3 and single pedal modes in instrument cluster but it doesn't perform any regen and the meter shows 0 on the right corner of the screen.

Stopped the car and restarted it, after few seconds it started working but in all the modes, the max regen that's getting applied is 7 (according to the meter in instrument cluster). The feel of braking is same as well..

Since I reached home and had an urgent work, I couldn't test it more. I will check it again in the night but this is weird. Not sure if its a software issue or hardware one. Anyone faced similar issue till now?

If the battery is full, there will be no regen. Because there is no battery left to store that charge. It will work once the battery is used a bit, closer to 90 percent SoC

I have seen this question asked before and this was the answer given. I completely forgot about this. I feel dumb. Thanks again. I will check it once more after consuming some battery.

From my observation, Regen starts working at a lower capacity around 98%.

Around 96%, you start getting L1-2 levels of regen.

And then around 92%, you can start using L3 or one pedal mode.

Re: Mahindra BE 6 Review

Curious to know if the new Windsor pro variant has put the cat amongst the pigeons here ?

The new topmost Windsor variant will have a 52.9 kWh battery pack (close to BE6 pack 1), lifetime warranty for the battery just like what mahindra are providing, and is being priced at just ₹17.49 lakh (1.5 lakhs cheaper than the BE6 base variant).

On top of that, it is being loaded with most of the good features from the higher variants of the BE6, like ADAS 2, Electric tailgate, ventilated front seats, alloys etc etc. One has to also understand that it has better rear seats and bigger boot than the BE6 too. The only difference now seems to be that BE6 pack 1 would have a much more powerful motor. Please add if there are more differences to note (differences wrt pack 1, which is competing with Windsor Pro)

Suddenly it has become very tempting for those with a restricted budget. I still love the overall looks of the BE6 no doubt, but Windsor pro suddenly seems more VFM.

It certainly did!

I did book BE6 Pack1 and waiting for July/Aug for delivery. Now, I have pre-booked Windsor Pro today after looking at additional features and VFM offering. The earlier test drives proved that original Windsor ride quality isn't upto our satisfaction. However, with reports that ride quality will be better due to additional battery weight, will do test drive once vehicle is available and take a decision.

Sure, here are the differences:

1. It's not just the more powerful motor, but the entire stack. The BE6 has a much more sporty suspension setup, variable geometry steering and a very aerodynamic design which is much better for enthusiasts. Windsor based on reviews has very poor suspension setup

2. BE6 pack 1 has 140KW peak charging rate, Windsor on the other hand peaks at just 60kw. At a faster charger, the windsor will take a while to top up.

3. The BE6 has a very fancy glass. It blocks heat, UV, as well as the cabin is whisper quiet. Windsor has fairly poor sound insulation.

4. BE6 is one of the safest cars out in India. Windsor on the other hand I'm a bit doubtful about because the front crumple zone seems very small. MG Windsor is based on Wuling Cloud EV, and Wuling is known for very unsafe vechicles: https://www.reddit.com/r/teslainvest...ling_mini_the/

They are meant for very different users. Windsor is meant for a family buyer who wants a very practical car. Big, comfortable, value for money. BE6 is meant for an enthusiast who values driving dynamics and experience over practicality.

The more appropriate comparison for Windsor would be the XEV 9E which is also meant for the practical family buyer.

Re: Mahindra BE 6 Review

Just completed a 1500kms trip on the BE6 Pack Three

Before the trip:

Odo was reading at 1450 before my trip and I wanted to take it for service as some of us had gone at 1600kms. However my service advisor just updated the car, replaced the grounding wire which was recalled for my unit and then asked me to avail my first service after my trip.

Key Points:
- The trip was as follows Bangalore > Sirsi > Nirvana Beach > Sirsi > Hubli > Bangalore

- Car was fully loaded at all times. 4 adults, 1 kid, 2 dogs and all of the luggage weighing around 70kgs. Total Weight about 350kgs incl people and luggage.

- I was always on Auto regen. Its designed simply beautifully that it can be sold as a software to other automakers. To quote homelander. Just simply perfect. Down to the last minute detail.

- AC was on throughout the trip and 5mins before everytime I started the car to ensure the cabin was cooled down enough. I got some sunfilm added in Hubli so it wasn't needed after that but the weather is sweltering on the ghats at the moment.

- On the forward trip planned on where I'd stop etc but on the way back just winged it cuz I felt it wasn't needed to be so anxious about it.

SOC

- Left from Bangalore with 100%
- Stopped for break with 24%. Only highway. Charged with 120KW Statiq for that duration of a Coffee and Snacks
- Reached final destination of 380kms with 50% left. Horrible roads for the last 80kms from highway.
- Used the car within the town for about 50kms.
- Charged with a 30kw Tata charger for 45 mins before the trip to Nirvana beach *
- Came back from there with 53% battery left. Bad roads, ghats and a 40km uphill climb on the way back.
- Reached Hubli with 20% battery left. My Airbnb was 11kms from where my extended family is. So I decided to have it charged so that I need it for some runs within the city
- Topped it to 100% while leaving towards Bangalore.
- Stopped for lunch and used a 60KW charger while we ate. Didn't look at charge as I knew I'd be on the surplus.

* Needed this because the road is slightly bad and has massive ghats and elevation. The highway stretch doesn't have a great choice of chargers so had to make sure I had enough without having to scramble.

The Experience

Overall: Great. My trip was exhausting for other reasons but genuinely the car had nothing to do with it. I faced only one issue on the return leg but it was manageable.

- The ride quality was mega. Bouncy highways, broken bypasses, wet muddy roads, rocky terrain at the beach, rough patches of broken state highways, you name it and it had zero bearing on worried I had to be about the car and the comfort inside.

- Efficiency: Like I said in my earlier post, there is no range anxiety if there is no anxiety existing about range. This is my first EV. I had little to no research on this and mostly faith in the team at Mahindra to go for it. It is yet to give me a single reason to complain about things like charge, power, battery etc. I drove on highways always at a 105 and where it permitted at about 120. Not because I wanted to but because I never realised I was going fast because of the smoothness of the ride + my confidence in the braking ability and distance

- Mode: I was largely on Default for the most part. Used Race mode to show my cousins the g force while in a powerful vehicle. This was probably just total of 2kms. Used Everyday mode to enhance the comfort on some bad stretches of the road. The final stint from Tumkur to Bangalore is a terrible patch so I was on power saving mode to simply avoid going too fast. (Power Saving limits your speed to 90kmph)

Issues: During my delivery there was a boot locking issue which has arisen for two other people I know who own BEVs. This issue had resolved on its own but came up again. The first service today fixed it. Essentially the boot locks in but doesn't close all the way but a slight push with both hands locks it in. So, not something that needs RSA but did take away marks from what I'd call a perfect road trip.

There was a time in between where I was feeling very tired but Eyedentity wouldn't show any warnings. But when I was driving with full concentration it would ask me to not be distracted.

Stats
Total Kms: 1425kms
Total Cost of Charging: INR 5547
Price per km: INR 3.89
Mileage (?): 5.7km/kwh

It has indeed. I had booked XEV 9E, and now Windsor almost ticks 85% of the boxes for 60% of the price. But its not just the Windsor announcement today that has me thinking. It is Mahindra's own executives announcement as well.

I am in Bangalore, and I have to pay around 3L extra if I need 79kwh range (BE or XEV). MM executives are now realising their mistake of making bigger battery available only with top end. They are rethinking their decision. This is too much of a churn for customers.

With so much happening I believe it is better to wait. Windsor is a very tempting proposition. The only way MM can out do them, is to offer bigger battery (Windsor cannot compete here), with a trimmed down version which makes it attractive enough.

It is no coincidence that MM executives are suddenly realising their mistake. It is better to wait and watch for now!!

Re: Mahindra BE 6 Review

I hope they understand that the base variant also needs to be a bit more competitive. I don't see Xev 9e base variant appealing to most with Windsor Pro arrival, in the current setup. Even BE6 pack 1 prospective buyers would rethink.

Re: Mahindra BE 6 Review

I don't intend to discuss the Windsor on this thread at length, but the Windsor Pro has certainly put a major VFM option.

The introductory price is 17.5L, which is pretty good. It has L1 ADAS I believe? not L2.

The BE6 Pack 1 is definitely going to lose some customer base to it.

The BE6 Pack 1 still would be a stronger option if you want a slightly larger battery, and a higher max charging speed. And the design of course.

I don't see it eating into the XEV sales, since the XEV has none of the downsides that folks tend to associate with the BE6 (aggressive design, space, comfortable second row).

The Windsor has L2 ADAS. The BE6 pack 1&2 quickly need the 79kwh battery else they have zero range advantage over the Windsor. The 59kwh pack will give lower range than the Winsdor 52.9, hence may not have many takers. Pack1 and 2 are the non tech folks who primarily focus on range.

XEV is definitely unaffected IMO

I honestly don't see why the 59kwh will give lower range than the Windsor with 52.9kwh.

The 59kwh variant of BE6 has less power, much lower weight. So it will give higher efficiency than the 79kwh BE6. On the other hand the 52.9kwh windsor has higher weight than the 38kwh Windsor so will give lower range. The overall efficiency of these will be very similar at the end of the day.

Driven sedately, the 38kwh windsor does about 270km range. That's 7.1km/kwh. On a similar usage with sedate driving the BE6 79kwh will do around 500km which is 6.3km/kwh. The efficiency difference right now is just 10%, which will go down to 0% or even in favour of BE6 when you compare the 59 and 53kwh variants of them. So I don't see how the Windsor 52.9 will be able to get more range than the BE6 59 despite having 10% smaller pack. It certainly won't have 10% efficiency advantage.

Re: Mahindra BE 6 Review

Exact efficiency only time will tell. However, the BE6, being a more enthusiastic driver-focused vehicle, will return lower efficiency due to its power/torque/weight figures. In all BE6 reviews of the owners in the forum, I have noticed they cruise at 100-120 on highways because of the ease at which the vehicle can. Windsor, not so much. Anyone can get maximum range by hypermiling, but that is besides the point; it's what the vehicles are focused to deliver, Windsor range & BE6 power and thrill.

This in itself would relate to 350ish range on the BE6 and 400ish on the Windsor.

People who cruise at 100-120 on highway will do so even in an Alto. The Windsor also is not that slow, I’ve TDed it and it can easily cruise at 120. The owners of BE6 drive it that fast because of the BIG battery. Owners of BE6 59 might not.

You can’t compare driving Windsor at 80kmph to BE6 at 110-120 and say Windsor has higher range.

And like you said if both vehicles are meant for different users, BE6 focused more on driving pleasure then the comparison becomes moot anyway. If you’re a family man the Windsor is better, for an enthusiast the BE6 is better. An enthusiast will buy a Golf GTI for 60 lakhs over the Kodiaq despite it being much less practical.

IMO the BE6 and Windsor are opposite vehicles and the buyer profiles will be very different. Comparing them is kinda pointless. I do agree that Windsor pro is extremely VFM product and fits a lot of Indian families. I myself will be recommending it to so many friends and family.
