Re: Mahindra BE 6 Review

I have a query regarding my car purchase. Last year, I booked the Mahindra Thar Roxx, but the delivery date is scheduled for May 2025. Recently, Mahindra launched the BE.06, which looks impressive, but it’s an EV. I am considering booking it, hoping to get delivery by March 2025, as only the top model is currently available for booking.

My real question is: which is better for me—diesel or an EV? I have to commute to the office three times a week, and the distance is 48 km one way. I cannot install a home charger, but I can use the Jio BP charger available at my office to charge the car. Additionally, I have road trips planned this year to places like Kochi, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and other smaller trips nearby.

I know an EV will be more cost-effective in terms of fuel, but should I go for the EV if I can get it before the Roxx delivery date?

Even before I could get the delivery, Mahindra unveiled BEs and brought me back to starting point. They have weird design, but I am fine if it drives well, smooth and has solid build and customer support. Atto 3 delivery is in Feb and I will review the BE6 before that and decide.
I am not going to drive at insane speeds, for sure. But I look for a car that is as torqy or more than my Ecosport. Willing to adopt to new tech. In fact, I am one of the first batch owners of Ather. I have just returned it under buy back program since there were lot of issues. I am buying Jupiter as a replacement. This doesn't deter me from experimenting another high cost EV.
I recently drove both the cars back to back, the BE 6 is a much better car as compared to the BYD Atto 3 in looks, drive, features and battery.

My advice would be to stick to the Thar Roxx. We don't have the charging infrastructure to handle sudden or spontaneous high trips for EVs. Everything has to be planned way in advance and even then a traffic jam, some spirited driving or anything to do with Murphy will put a spanner in the works. I TD the ZSEV one full day and fell in love with the raw power and handling of EVs. One charging port being occupied by a gentleman waiting to charge from 85 to 100% put paid to my EV aspirations. We are not there yet.

If EVs were there during these fires, then this fire can not be a coincident. This is indeed a great reason for concern and Mahindra should release their statements on this as well.

The EV fire related incidents are going down with the advent of new technologies in battery, but this indecent raised a big concern on how our local players are foraying this challenge when OEMs here used to shrug off these incident by linking them to accessory fitments or other cooked reasons (user behaviors or habits).

Flatbed/Towing is the best way to isolate and preserve the damages caused by the accident, unless one has an absolute emergency to attend to and need to drive the car pronto.

Though a vehicle might be seemingly okay after an accident and might even run, there is no way of knowing what is damaged inside and interfering with the electronics or movement of the vehicle or any additional friction being created that adds up to the damage to the internals caused by the accident per se.
There is a good chance that insurance might decline a claim if they feel that the damage was not done due to the accident but rather due to the subsequent actions.

After a little over 2 years and 40,000 Kms on the odo, I am pleased to let you know that I have found it !! The most useful icon on Nexon EV Max's infotainment is, ladies and gentlemen, hidden behind the triangular icon marked in the image below.

Re: Mahindra BE 6 Review

I have shown interest in XEV9e on the Mahindra website and got a call back from them informing me that the test drives have begun and the car is available in the Pune Baner showroom. The lady said, she would arrange a callback but didn't receive a call.

So I called up Baner showroom to find that no vehicle was available for display and test drives with them. The person confirms that most of the showrooms in Pune are under renovation and they are expecting the vehicles by next weekend. He said he will call me once the cars are available with them.

This information is for the potential showroom visitors and interested people.

Cars are already available at few of the showrooms. Refer to my post here (Mahindra XEV 9e Review).

Re: Mahindra BE 6 Review

We saw the car next to a Seltos and Sonet and it somehow and a bit shockingly, made them look like tinny hatchbacks.

But a wider car will always make a less wide one look cheap. Remember all the “toy-like” and “SPresso rival” comments about the Jimny? It feels like the same thing except now for cars a size wider.

And the Be3 being at 1907mm across does feel like a new and, looks aside, socially undesirable threshold has been crossed for cars in this segment. Thinking about it in feet and inches, the Be6 is 6’3” and a Honda City 5’9”.

Otherwise, Pack One looks like a steal. One hopes it doesn’t come with the spoiler, which to my possibly disordered mind looks like a pair of sunglasses pushed up on a person’s head. And it’s a relief it doesn’t have the “cheetah’s eye duct” DRLs or the tail lamp animation.

Re: Mahindra BE 6 Review

I received a call from Mahindra informing me that the BE.6 was available for a test drive at their Chandigarh showroom. I visited the showroom yesterday and observed that they had at least five XUV.e9 and five BE.6 vehicles available for test drives. The showroom was bustling with interested customers.

I took the BE.6 for a short test drive, and my initial impressions of the car were very positive across several aspects.

Regarding the booking process, I was informed that I could submit a copy of my PAN and Aadhaar along with a ₹20,000 postdated cheque (dated 14th February), as this is the official booking commencement date.

I have a few questions:

1. Is this process typical for new car launches, or would it be better to wait until the official booking date?

2. I assume the booking amount is refundable if I decide to cancel later—can anyone confirm this?

The salesperson also mentioned that they’ve already received around 50–60 booking cheques, and based on this, booking now could result in delivery around May 2025. However, I’m unsure if this claim is accurate or just a tactic to encourage early bookings.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

My salesperson told me the same thing and mentioned that it is refundable. She also asked when I need the car. I told her ASAP, and she advised me to pre-book it so she can arrange the delivery by March, as only the top variant will be on sale.
