I got the booking done via the dealership. It shows in my account but I don't see any booking ID. My booking was done between 9.45 and 10 am. I called the Sales person to enquire about the lack of a booking ID but he asked me to not worry. He assured me that booking ID will get updated later as they have done it via the dealership. So now the wait game begins. Hopefully Mahindra sticks to the delivery timelines.

I have said this in an earlier post. The black does make the car look a bit smaller than it actually is. And the body lines blends in. Also because the cladding matches the paint work, i personally felt it made the car look a little odd shaped. But its only a personal opinion.
The best part though is that all the lighting fittings blend in so well because they are all blacked out, it looks so damn cool when they turn on and do their little light animation.

Yeah it is showing. One of my bookings was done around 9:15 and another around 9:45.

Mahindra Records Bookings Worth ₹8,472 CR on Day 1 – BE 6 and XEV 9e

A total of 30,179 units of both these cars have been booked on the first day.

The demand is split between the XEV 9e (56%) and BE 6 (44%), indicating strong interest in both models.

Also Pack 3 79kWH is the highest booked variant (73% of the total bookings)

30K plus bookings is very good for day 1 considering that PACK2 deliveries will only start after 5 months (July 2025) and PACK1 deliveries after 6 months (August 2025). Initial bookings also tilt towards PACK3 for the same reason. Interestingly, XEV 9e has more demand contrary to BE 6's popularity on team bhp.

Hopefully, Mahindra will deliver reliable products. The success of these two EVs will accelerate the EV market in India and push the competition to develop good EVs and price them reasonably.

I'm actually surprised by how good the bookings of BE6 are. I was expecting 80:20 for XEV:BE considering that most Indians are normal family buyers rather than enthusiasts which are a majority of tbhp.

I mean if we think about it, most enthusiast cars, say VAG group for example would have set the sales charts on fire while Maruti would be struggling with single digit percentage market share if we look at interest on team bhp.

Did those who pre-booked manage to see their bookings? I cannot find any bookings or messages. Additionally, the booking amount has not yet been deducted, but the sales advisor said it was booked and would not be visible on the website; those who booked online will be visible on the website.

Its amazing that Mahindra managed these numbers on day 1,but do you think they have the production capacity at their plant for these Evs to be able to meet the Mid March timelines for pack 3. They are quite infamous for their atrocious waiting periods. Waiting to see how that goes but rooting for Mahindra.

I didn't get any message but the website was immediately updated and my booking showed up alebit without the booking ID which for some reason is still not visible. I spoke to the dealership & they send me a booking acknoweldge receipt on whatsapp which I've attached here. I was told that booking ID will get allocated only when the vehicle is allocated. I asked for a proforma invoice to give to the bank & they said that too would be provided only when the car has been allocated.

There are few things we need to consider too i guess. Mahindra already started dispatching vehicles in January according to vehicle dispatch numbers (Someone posted in this BE6 thread before). So they started the production quite a while back and should be having vehicles ready to move immediately.

Mahindra also mentioned that they plan to sell 5000 cars every month in initial announcements of BEV vehicles. So I think they have the capacity to manufacture that many regularly.

Coming to the count of initial deliveries they need to do for Pack 3 from next month, it would be around 73% of total 30179 bookings. So it would be around 22000 vehicles and then there will be many double or some triple orders (people doing multiple orders in different dealers and some in online as well as dealer bookings) many of which would be cancelled later.

So I guess Mahindra will be able to deliver them in coming 2-4 months before other pack deliveries start. Let's hope for the best.

This just shows what i always feel today on the roads of India. There is a small bunch of people who have huge dough and can easily line up to buy a 25L-30L Car whilst the other India lines up to make ends meet. Again not their fault, but the inequality is jarring. Sorry for being off topic.

I wonder the same thing always, who buys new cars? I have enough dough, work in the auto industry yet I prefer to drive old used diesel cars. let these people use their new cars and I'll buy cheap from them later, that's how I think.

I finally managed to test drive both the BE6 and the XEV 9E - and I have to say, “Hats Off Mahindra and Mahindra” - both the cars are truly outstanding.

First the BE6. It looked great in the pictures, and even more drool worthy in real life. If ever there was an India car worthy of the monicker “6E”, this is it!



You sit down in the driver’s seat and the car genuinely seems built around you. My test drive unfortunately was a short 5 km spin on Marine Drive - not even the entire length. But the car seemed great to drive - zero body roll, going exactly where you wanted it, and fantastic power even in Everyday mode. The regeneration implementation was outstanding too - as good as that in the Ioniq 5. The only negative was the wheel spin and squeal when you accelerated quickly. A similar squeal was heard while braking - and not extreme braking - just normal everyday 80-20 deceleration. The SA claimed it was because it is a powerful rear wheel drive - I didn’t buy that; but the car seems extremely under-tired relative to the power it puts out. It clearly deserves better tyres than the 245/55 R19 Goodyears it was shod with. But that is a minor quibble - as a driver’s car, this is far better than what I had imagined even after seeing and reading all the reviews.

However, the rear seat is a joke. Despite the warnings, I hit my head the first time I got in - and hit my head again despite trying to avoid it the next time (yes, I need to work on my flexibility - but am sure there will be people fatter and less flexible than me). And rear seat knee room was atrocious - my knees dug into the driver’s seat behind my driving position (and I am just 5’10”).



Boot space was atrocious as well - so think this is a really a European style hot hatch and wonder how many Indians will ultimately buy it.

Next the XEV 9E. If Mahindra planned their strategy as draw them in with the BE6, and sell the XEV 9E, I think it will work. While not as 6E as the BE6, it looks much better in real life than it does in pictures.



The front seat is nice - with a seating position very similar to that in my X3. You don’t feel the extra bulk of the car even while driving it immediately after the BE6. Power delivery is great, interiors are fantastic, the frunk is huge, and boot even if it didn’t look 650 l is extremely deep (but not very tall). I found the same issue with the squeal on launch and braking as in the BE6. But more positively, like in the BE6, body roll was negligible - not as planted as an X3, but great compared to most crossovers of similar size. This car will certainly be in our consideration set for the next purchase in a couple of years.

Once again, Hats Off Mahindra!!!

Seems like the EVs in general can gain some traction if the booking numbers convert to actual purchases. Mahindra nailed it with their debut.
Only thing I would like to bring up again is awareness and responsibility among the people who buy these speed machines. The mass public in general is not aware of the thrust and rapidness of EVs in general, let alone these Mahindra's.

Will it be good if Mahindra could build in some sort locked-in learner's driving configuration which would have a run-in period(like for say the first 1000-2000 kilometers) just like the good old(sarcasm) ICE engines have with a toned down acceleration and power profile to let the new comers ease into the EV propulsion and get to learn, respect and get a hint about the power on tap?

Don’t know about Mumbai but at least in Bengaluru the depreciation on cars is very low. For a well maintained 5-6 year old car you’ll have to shell around 70-75% of initial purchase price. It just doesn’t make sense. The only cars that depreciate enough to consider in second hand market are your luxury cars (BMW, Mercedes, Audi), but those cars cost too much even in second hand market for me to not really consider them.

I bought my i10 nios (sportz AMT) in the end of 2019 for 8.05 lakhs. Checked a few months ago and the resales are going around for 6.7-6.8 lakhs. The case is similar for most other cars below 25 lakhs. Similarly out Ecosport diesel from 2017 (top model- platinum) cost us 11.5 lakhs on road, while we can easily resale it for around 7 lakhs as I checked last year.

It might be just BLR specific phenomenon but in recent years I’m seeing new buys make more sense than bothering with second hand market.

As for having dough I just prefer to buy 2-3 segments below my affordability, and run those cars for 10 years or so. My budget for a car right now was upto 85 lakhs. But I went with 30 lakhs BE6. Don’t really see anything below 30 lakhs in second hand market which can keep pace with this, so the choice was fairly clear. This car I intend to keep for 15 years at least. Since it’s an electric, it’ll at least be a great city car even if I get a much better car later on.

Not sure I agree. Most of the sales in India happen around 10-11 lakhs. The number of people owning car itself is minuscule and the number of people buying expensive car is even smaller.

Luxury car sales in China (BMW, Mercedes, Audi) are almost 50x of India. India has people with money but very very few.
