Currv EV range as per MIDC part 1+2 Cycle is 502km, not 585 km. So, in your chart, it should be 682 km for BE 6e 79 kWh vs 502 km for Currv EV 55kWh.

As mentioned in notes, only ARAI range considered for all.

Re: Mahindra BE 6e Review

I have been reading and staring at these cars all day since the day of the launch. I started off being mesmerized and in awe the first 2 days. Now looking at it I'm feeling a bit meh too much happening. The exterior and interior are too whacky. In my personal opinion, it would be better to start launching vehicles with gradual changes.

Such a dynamic change would be remembered in the future as "too ahead of its time".

But lets see how well this is received. Waiting impatiently to know!

Re: Mahindra BE 6e Review

Do we know what were the recommended tire pressures by Mahindra for BE 6e?

Re: Mahindra BE 6e Review

Thanks for back to back review. I must say after seen the XEV 9e review first, this 6e looks like a bad package.

- Rear seat is a big compromise
- The interior are not as classy as in 9e
- Expensive
- Not very practical. Need a second car to back it up
- Look more of a lifestyle vehicle
- Sharp cuts and creases which will make it age very fast

More i see the Tata Curvv on the road now, more i detest the design. The shiny panels all around the cars looks very bad in person. The wheel, wheel well and the rest of the body looks like a big mismatch. These BE's have the similar glossy back panel all around, which IMHO will be a royal ownership pain.

ARAI has two methods.
1. MIDC Phase 1 (Old method and range numbers are unrealistic).
2. MIDC Phase 1+2 (New. Better than MIDC phase 1. Still not as realistic as WLTP).

So, based on these two methods proper range comparison is below for both BE 6e 79 kWh and Currv EV 55kWh. Included XEV 9e numbers as well.

MIDC Phase 1:
Currv EV (55 kWh) = 585 km
BE 6e (79 kWh) = 828 km
XEV 9e (79 kWh) = 780 km

MIDC Phase 1+2:
Currv EV (55 kWh) = 502 km
BE 6e (79 kWh) = 682 km
XEV 9e (79 kWh) = 656 km

Re: Mahindra BE 6e Review

As someone looking to move on from my ageing Skoda Laura 1.8 TSI, had really high hopes from the BE 6e. An all rounder which could be fun when you are in the mood, and comfortable enough for the long roadtrips with family. Assumed the 2775 mm wheelbase would mean that it would be the XEV 9e's equal in all aspects except headroom and luggage. The balance between ride comfort and handling also sounds a bit too skewed for a car in its segment, but maybe that's me in my middle age .

In a summary, had dreamt up a Goldilocks zone car (ala a Golf GTI on stilts), and this comes up a bit short. I guess that was asking for a bit too much, especially as there seem to be no EVs even on the global stage which can get the underthigh support right in mid-size segments, despite the long wheelbases.
Wonder if a higher roof with more vertical space and a higher+longer seat base isn't possible) is difficult due to the centre of gravity compromises or aerodynamics limitations.

The XEV 9e feels like the best compromise for now to me, one of the very few EV with a comfortable rear seat.

But, both cars are way better than anything else in the market, and that's clear progress in itself

Very keen to test drive both!

@MG- Get the new MG ZS EV based on the MG4 EV, price it to match the BE 6e, and then we are talking! Hope they don't keep us waiting for too long.

Re: Mahindra BE 6e Review

Personally between the two, I prefer the XEV. I do admire the plethora of gimmicks and gizmos inside this one though

But what’s the target audience? Singles / young couples in their 20s? Seems so.

Never seen so much on social media on the launch of a new car since the Nano probably.

If I am not wrong, for people of average height <5'10, the rear seat isn't an issue. The underthigh support is better (as I observed in Gagan's video, he's 5'9) and headroom isn't an issue.

Thanks for clarifying. I wasn't aware of this.

Re: Mahindra BE 6e Review

I like the looks of be 6e, but the halo thing in the middle is deal breaker for me. It's creating a partition between the driver and the passenger.

Xev 9e have bad front drls and that tripple screen is too tacky.

Re: Mahindra BE 6e Review

A most interesting and intriguing review.

On one hand, one cannot but applaud Mahindra for its courage and conviction to launch such a product. It brings a kind of design as well as performance hitherto unimaginable in this kind of segment or price range. The cabin is stunning, the most radical design since the original Honda Civic. Overall a game changing product that democratises EVs like nothing else.

At the same time, it is surprising and a bit disappointing to see than the rear seat experience remains compromised with regards to headroom and thigh support. This, while understandable on an ICE convert EV, was not expected here on a true EV platform. Photos indicate that the rear seat seating is of a similar ballpark as the Tata Curvv, and not significantly better. MG Windsor, also 4.3m, remains a benchmark nobody has come close to. Curvv itself is not much better than the much maligned Nexon EV in this regard, a sub 4m car.

Then there is the ride quality. Sure, a handling based setup feels good when you are in the mood. But in Indian conditions, ride quality has to take precedence 99 times out of 100. As a Compass owner, the stiff ride superb dynamics setup is a pain on anything less than perfect roads. It’s not as if they needed it so stiff to handle the power. If the 9E can be made to ride well, so can the 6E.

The 80kwh 6E has MIDC range of 682km, which is 8.63km/kwh. The 55kwh Tata Curvv is MIDC rated at 502km, which means 9.12km/kwh. Tata’s drivetrain is a little more efficient than Mahindra’s! Perhaps the real world experience with tens of thousands of EVs on the road shows.

Re: Mahindra BE 6e Review

I am probably one of the rare ones(inspite of being 40 YO) who is loving this BE 6E more than the XEV primarily for its funky looks and compact dimensions. Didn't expect Mahindra to keep it so close to the concept. Man, I love it

This is the first EV which is making me want to get one finally. Yes it has some quirky bits but am OK to ignore those if it turns out to be reliable. As its a Mahindra, will wait for a year to see how the initial niggles turn out.

Am sure Mahindra will shake up the EV car market now. Well done Mahindra.

You can't compare Curvv with others. Curvv's battery is only 55 kWh and others have 70+kwh battery packs. The real-world range of Curvv is around 400 km. The EQA with 70.5 kW will give at least 70-80 km more range than Curvv in real-world conditions.
