Re: Mahindra BE 6e Review

I will not be buying this iteration of the two models. The power, range and handling looks tempting. However there are some practical issues with these.

I am sure Mahindra will sell a lot of these cars which will hopefully pave the way for affordable and fun to drive cars which are also practical and maybe with "traditional " designs.

Thanks to EV tech and Mahindra, power is becoming affordable.

Re: Mahindra BE 6e Review

WOAH!!!

That was the first reaction I had when I first saw this thing. The XEV, on the other hand didn’t impress me much in terms of looks. It looks like a grown up Curvv. This on the other hand, is Future. I am very keen to see the pricing of the 79 KWh Pack 3. I expect it to be around 24 ex-showroom. At that price, there is nothing like it on our market.

Have fallen in love with it. I am 90% sure that I’ll get this atleast 6 months post launch. My dad, who has grown up having MM 540s at home and learnt driving on one is never keen on a Mahindra. But this vehicle has him intrigued and has already given the go ahead to get it once the initial niggles are sorted from Mahindra. It will make for a great daily commute vehicle for me.

Three reasons for this seeming disparity.
1) Bigger car: heavier
2) Bigger battery : heavier
3) more powerful motor : heavier

Of these, bigger battery is probably the main reason for this seemingly lower Km/kWh for BE 6E.
Mahindra has rated the energy density of BE 6E battery as 141.5 Wh/kg. In other words, every kWh comes with an additional weight of 7.1 kg. So the difference in kWh between Curvv and BE 6E translates into an additional 170kg on the BE 6E.

Hence, the weight difference between BE 6E and Curvv will easily be about 250kg.

Despite being heavier by 250 odd kg (about 10-15% weight delta) the drop in km/kWh is only about 5-6%.

Hence I would not be surprised if Mahindra's powertrain is actually more efficient than Tata's.

Rgds.

Comparing the two new launches back seat. Is the one on the right has all three point seat belt? The middle seat belt doesnt seem to have the lap belt part. Does this follow three point seat belt standard or is it not latched properly?

I just watched the drive reviews of this car and it seems mostly perfect! So much so, I wouldn't mind trading in my year old Kushaq for it, if my grandma can manage the ingress.

Yes, the Halo is irritating (how can I get out from the passenger side, say after I park in a tight spot). Dealing with their too much tech and steer/ brake by wire also seems a tad bit irritating. But every car has its pros and cons. The pro here is the price and it's much lower running costs.

Overall a very good effort by Mahindra. Waiting for their launch here, and this could very well be our first Mahindra.

Re: Mahindra BE 6e Review

I like Be6e (hate this name, it is even difficult to write) much more than the XEV9e (another silly name) simply because it looks much better proportioned to my eyes. This makes sense because XEV9e underneath is the exact same with the exact same wheelbase as the Be6e, so all of the extra length is coming from the unusually large front and rear overhangs which makes it look strange.

I also like the interiors on the Be6e a lot more but I do wish the central screen was a bigger unit just like Tesla which would have made it easier to displaying settings for the car and also consume multimedia. Triple screens in the bigger XEV9e serve no practical purpose - infact allowing the passenger screen to stream video while the car is being driven is a terrible idea and I hope Indian authorities put a stop to it.

For content watching and car settings a bigger central screen would be better than any and I hope Tata is taking notes.

I also havent seen anyone mention the weights. Do we know what these weigh with the bigger batteries?

Re: Mahindra BE 6e Review

Am not sure if I’ll get infraction points for saying this, but let me risk it.

Since yesterday evening, the more YouTube videos I see, the more I want to see and touch the car

There are cars which will make you stop and look back after you park, but this vehicle takes it a notch above.

While it’s love it or hate it, for me it’s more than just love it. It’s about making a statement and in some style. I clearly get what Mahindra is trying to achieve here and I think they’ve nailed it.

Unlike few who see shades of cybertruck, I see no resemblance to any car out there. This is a car which the world will sit down and take note off.

Mahindra, never had so much respect for you folks. What you’re doing to the Indian automobile industry is akin to a revolution. Take a bow.

Having seen how close to the concept you can get the production variant, the wait for Thar EV is much more interesting

Any idea when these can be seen at the showrooms??

Re: Mahindra BE 6e Review

It looks beautiful.

From all angles.

And will be a great vehicle in terms of range and touring etc , for a small family. A very nice alternative indeed to the crop of boring vehicles that we largely live with in India.

I appreciate what M&M are doing.

My only worry is the service centres and their ability to cope amidst the huge influx of old generation Mahindra vehicles and all their new age ICE Hot-sellers.

Knowledge transfer, skills and knowhow, tools and technology, spares availability, capacity and everything else are critical to ensure a seamless service experience.

Re: Mahindra BE 6e Review

Thanks for the review of the BE6E - and I have to start by disagreeing with one point - Be Sexy is a most apt name for this car. The coolness quotient of this car is truly outstanding - even if I am not sure how it will age.

The interiors don’t seem that good however, and the halo which stops you from crossing the cabin seems like a bad idea which reduces practicality for no real benefit. I hope it is removable and goes out of the window before deliveries start.

Do hope this is a super hit and acts as a trigger for quality charging infrastructure (150 KW chargers) coming up on Indian highways. After one year and 15000 km with the Ioniq 5, I think EVs make more sense than any other kind of vehicle in India. And the BE 6E and it’s more sensible if uglier sibling, the XEV 9e are the vehicles to bring that revolution in. Time to “End the ICE Age” in 4 wheelers too!

Re: Mahindra BE 6e Review

Took some quick reactions on this car’s design. Ranged from “looks like a toy car” to “futuristic” to outright contempt. Funniest reactions were reserved for the rear ac vent.

One of the video reviewer mentioned that there will be option to get the car without this partition. So lets hope to see a toned down version is coming along as well.

But I wish there would be an actual base variant without the glass roof and few other electronic gimmicks. Just provide the mechanical options of RWD and AWD with the necessary electronics to operate them, thats it. Removal of glass roof will also increase the rear headroom and will be more practical in the hot Indian climatic conditions.

Be 6e looks far better than 9e. I don't understand why Mahindra missed the opportunity of becoming the first mover in the 6/7 seater 25 lakh EV segment. Currently only option is the MUV offered by BYD which looks too expensive for it's cheap cabin feel and the bare bone exterior design.

An AT 6-7 seater with 500+ kms range in 25 lakh is a perfect family car for many Indian households.

Now there isn't much extra to offer in the bigger 9e over this 6e except the boot.

Re: Mahindra BE 6e Review

The design is polarizing, I initially did not like the design, slowly warming up to not hate the design.

The EV part of the car is fantastic, the battery sizes, power figures, charging speed, V2L, RWD. Gives me very optimistic view of the future EVs launched in India.

I may not buy this car for below reasons.
1) Ingress of driver and passengers is very bad.
2) Luggage space is less.
3) Halo for the driver, EVs should have more space.

Clearly EVs have reached price parity before all the talk about solid state batteries, even cheaper batteries.

Can anyone shed some light on this ? Cause absence of a rear headrest for the middle passenger was already a compromise, and not having a proper 3 point seat belt is a very bad idea. Or do they have the two part arrangement like the Toyota Innova ?

Re: Mahindra BE 6e Review

Great car, but the XEV 9e impressed me a lot more due to its bigger size, better ride comfort, larger boot and I prefer its looks. Would anyday buy the 9e over the 6e.

Mahindra smartly planned the embargoes such that the world saw reviews of the XEV 9e first, and all initial impressions of Mahindra's "born electric" EVs were based on the XEV 9e.
