Thanks for yet another crisp and brilliant review.

Right. One of the best launches in recent times. They have planned the whole event, across days, meticulously and executed it brilliantly.

It like sustained bombardment of 'WoW' features/videos one after the other.

Re: Mahindra BE 6e Review

Mahindra has got the pricing and the range/power right. But created two really ugly looking cars, both inside and exterior. Lots of copying of other manufacturers design elements (Tesla, Tata for exteriors, Mercedes, Porche for interiors to name a few) resulting in non homogeneous or proportional design. There does not even seem to be a design language, other than quirky.

Sometimes I feel we need a Dilip Bam to call a spade a spade. All online reviews seem to be Mahindra marketing department's writing.

It will sell, which is good for our EV industry and push the government to hasten charging infrastructure.

Re: Mahindra BE 6e Review

Excellent reviews of 2 excellent cars.

I like the BE 6E more. It has a lot of cool aspects, the sporty design, the front spoiler, the LED strip in the centre in the back, sporty interiors.Makes you feel like you want to be 25 again. However in terms of space it’s a slight compromise and the 9E looks more comfortable for a family.

As someone said XEV 9E could have been a complete SUV rather than Coupe, with a 6-7 seat option as the Indian market loves its 6-7 seaters but maybe Mahindra is earning too well with the 700 and don’t want to disrupt it as yet. If u look at it it’s a smart strategy and these cars do not cannibalise any Mahindra car. It targets the competitors like Harrier, Creta segment and not to mention the EVs.

One of the aspects about buying an EV was that the best time to buy an EV was always 6 months later, because of the falling prices we have seen in last 2 years.

ZS EV came to 19 lacs from 25 lacs.
Atto 3 at 29 and 25 for 60 and 50 kWh
The discounts on Nexon, KiA EV6, even Seal.

All this told us that once you buy an EV be prepared that same car can be bought much cheaper 6-12 months down the line.

Not anymore. I think Windsor and the Inglo twins from Mahindra have now created a bottom and prices cannot now go below.

60kwh at 19 lacs starting. 60kwh was 35 lacs when Atto 3 was launched.

Now EVs are almost at par with ICE given the RTO benefits for comparable size segment and hence can’t go lower.

These now make the ZS EV top end, Atto 3, BYD EMax 7, dare I say the Ioniq 5, EV6, Seal not value for money (BYDs sell for much less in other markets like Thailand because of local manufacturing).

Will be interesting to see the response from competitors
Will MG get the 50kwh Windsor and play on cabin space
Will Tata get the Harrier quicker to target the XEV 9E
Will BYD push for local manufacturing even more
Can Hyundai price the Creta EV at par with Creta ICE or get the updated Kona

Interesting times ahead for the EV buyer, the buying decision is now on a much solid wicket and doesn’t have to worry about the falling prices and falling value.

I have cancelled my EMax 7 booking as the seats were not great and again Mahindra will offer a bigger battery at much lower price point.

Start @4.05 - He mentioned what you said. Sigh of relief really.

I also think this Halo thingy is more gimmick than style.

So true as most mainstream media are following Mahindra's narrative. Autocar's review seem to be more balanced of the lot.

BE 6e does remind me of the Urus and Lotus Eletre in bits but doesn't appear as cohesive IMO.

For me the rear space/lack of airiness/difficulty in ingress/egress and that weird cockpit (with sloping beam in the middle) are the main dampeners.

Re: Mahindra BE 6e Review

Thanks for the review, excellent as always.

I have a question though

If both 6E and 9E have same suspension then can we tune the 6E suspension to be the same as 9E? As from the review we understand that 6E is more stiffer than 9E and a person who needs more comfortable suspension then 9E is the car, so is there anyway to tune it to the way 9E is setup.

Re: Mahindra BE 6e Review

I don't like the design. Too edgy, too boxy. Something straight out of a video game. I am excited by the prospects of future vehicles and hopefully in the next 3-5 years when I will be in the market again, I can hope for toned down, more traditional and practical offerings from this line up. The specs are mouth watering and the price point is tempting but buying a first gen Mahindra is like being a beta tester for them. Plus the design just puts me off, the more I look at it, the more I hate it.

Re: Mahindra BE 6e Review

After reading both reviews, I think I like the 9E much better than the 6E.

Also, the 6E does not seem to be a good option as a family car; maybe the right target audience would be mostly young couples or bachelors.

P.s. The one good thing that Mahindra has thrown in is the lifetime warranty on the battery pack, albeit for the 1st owner only. That in itself sweetens the deal a lot, considering a lot many people entering into the EV space have battery-reliability as their main reservation.

Yes, the Halo is irritating (how can I get out from the passenger side, say after I park in a tight spot). Dealing with their too much tech and steer/ brake by wire also seems a tad bit irritating. But every car has its pros and cons. The pro here is the price and it's much lower running costs.
Simple, use the key FOB to park the car.

Mahindra's launch of a Born Electric vehicle is commendable, and the product certainly has an impressive design.

However, few are discussing the product's drawbacks, aside from a few YouTube reviews. The extensive use of piano black finish in the interior, which will be challenging to maintain, has not been discussed.

It almost seems as though I'm viewing a marketing kit from Mahindra, with many YouTubers seemingly echoing the same narrative.

Re: Mahindra BE 6e Review

One can't compare every product by the same yardstick. I dont think Mahindra ever considered practicality and ergonomics before designing this product. They wanted a product with enough oomph and wackiness built into it for buyers looking for such a car and have undoubtedly succeeded.

This is one such product which will make a statement on its owner's behalf. Impractical but butch and powerful. The design is not just aggressive but feels energetic too.
I, for one, love the design of car inside out.

I highlighted three keywords above from you post, hope you won't mind.

The EVs are now on par with ICE because, as you said the tax benefits, or more correctly due to a saner tax regime.

Now given the track record of our government 1950-till this moment, it is 99% certain that it will not only stop sops but it will start increasing the tax burden. Expect any day from now stupid things like 5% tax for EVs with 10KWh battery and 11BHP motor, 15% tax for 11.2KWh battery..

If the central government somehow fails to do its duty, the state government will step in dutifully. No worries there. We will never allow us to reach world-class in any industry.

I totally agree with you, but due to the aforesaid reason.

Just this feature itself has Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and UP written all over it. I'm pretty sure a lot of folks will buy it for this feature and very soon many wedding procession on road will feature it

My wife only saw this one reel on insta about it and decided that we are buying this as the next car
I had to remind her that she drives probably just 3K or 4K in the whole year and our 11 year old Honda Amaze with 1.3L kms is absolutely the perfect car. But who am I to give logical arguments.
